| Quote ="Slugger McBatt"That's how I saw it on full-time, as well as JM's first try, which was even more forward. Smith to Smith was forward but that was the one that was picked up on.
Perhaps it is harder to spot on long passes because mentally you allow for momentum of the ball, and sometimes short flat passes can look forward when they are flat because of the different speed of the runner collecting the ball.
I blame Lee Smith's years at Leeds, because they don't play the forward pass rule in front of the South Stand.'"
From my point of view (as a neutral... but with a rather large Trinity bias) I thought that the Smith to Smith pass was forward and (sorry!) that Silverwood got this call right. Tim didn't have much forward momentum when he passed the ball to Lee and while it was a brilliantly spotted opportunity and well executed, it was forward by a couple of yards.
The difference with the Huddersfield final try pass was indeed the momentum. When the pass went out to JM the passer (can't recall whom it was) he was running at full tilt and his hands appeared to pass the ball backwards but equally the ball was received a couple of yards from the point of passing... but this doesn't make it a forward pass of course, as we know!
I think that maybe 50% of the time, Tim Smith's pass if given as good and the other 50% pulled up. I think with the Hudds one, then maybe 80% of those are given and I think from the only camera angle I saw, then it was more difficult to call and it may or may not have been forward.
As for the rest of Silverwood's performance I can't comment, but I don't think you were cheated in relation to these two incidents and over a season, these calls will even themselves up.

I'd say feet not yards

We'll have to agree to disagree I think. I agree with you as regards Tim Smiths pass, however Luke Robinsons momentum is very much lateral rather than forwards and having watched it several times at full speed and in slo-mo I would say that the release of the ball is not in a backwards direction.
Not that it matters much now, as they say, read the papers! but it does look to me (however many times I view it) that the two passes were very similar but only one was pulled up!

I think Lee was a couple of short strides in front of where Tim passed the ball, so I think it was more than a couple of feet, but equally it wasn't massively forward, but I do think it was forward!

It was forward IMO no doubt but not yards for me.

I wouldn't argue with you on this TBH, I am not saying the the Hudds pass was or was not forward, just that it was not as obvious on the video as the Tim Smith one, which I both watched and them rewound and watched just once more. I don't think Silverwood or his touch-judges can be accused of blatant errors that should have been spotted, and I would have accepted both or neither of these passes being pulled up as forward on the basis of the video I watched.

| not seen replays yet and obv felt gutted at the time but at no point did i feel the compulsion to start a thread entitled "cheated" and make myself look daft. Some of the stuff in this thread is cringeworthy.
The referees obviously get things wrong and it did seem like Silverwood was giving us a hard time but you have to trust the officials to call the game as they see it. He is hardly going to make a forward pass decision lightly in the circumstances and to be fair he blew the whistle straight away.
My main concern was the incident involving Poore in the first half. The referee didnt seem to react until one of the Hudds players came running in (it looked like Grix or someone similar). Not having seen the replay i can't comment whether the challenge was high or not (it was a decent shot) but pretty disappointed that the Hudds player got away with running in and causing a ruck without a yellow card.
Also though Danny Kirmond pulled off one of the best tackles i have seen in a long time to prevent Ferres scoring. Shame we let McGillvray score on the next tackle.

| Having watched it back and freezed framed it my initial thoughts were right, Tim Smiths pass was well forward i'm afraid. He passed the ball with no forward momentum from bang on the 10 metre line and Lee Smith took the ball about 7 metres out. Correct decision.
Sadly he managed to skip the fact that two of Mcgilvrays tries were from forward passes as well. Fair to say we got the dirty end of the stick in this one.

| IA it was Luke Robinson and he has zero momentum when he passes
I also think that the Smith to Smith pass was forward, all I'm asking for is a little competancy from those in the middle

| Yes interesting that McGillveray already has ball in hand and possible could have had for 5 metres yet on the Wakey photos the ball is still in the air in front of Fairbank. I'll post more accurate photos later

Admittedly it's not risen to the dizzy heights of Ferocious Aadvark watching tackles in slowmo with his stop watch but there are some pretty admirable attempts on this thread. The old man's unassailable position is not as secure as it once was.

| At least the world was still turning when I woke up this morning!
I still think that Silverwood was one-eyed, but at least it wasn't the usual capitulation against Shudds; as Anderson said, the best team lost, so if we can take anything from the game, it's that we can compete with what are perceived to be the best sides.
Bit more composure and the rub of the green every now and again, and we'd have won that comfortably; encouraging stuff.

You want to look again pal, that's Brough's white cycling short not the ball. Not that it matters one iota but the ball is in lee smiths hands.

| We need to move on guys its not the last game and it certainly won't be taken as a bad game for us. We were the best team unfortunately we lost. We can now go away to Catalans that we are able to compete with top teams in the super league. Up and onwards

We didn`t get out of second gear today. We were cruising at 18-8 and should have closed the game down. Credit wakey though they hung in when we eased off.

Yes you did your team was shell shocked and as your coach stated well beaten except on the scoreboard THAT IS YOUR COACH!. Has anyone in Huddersfield ever heard of sportsmanship and giving the opposition some credit. To be a sore loser is bad enough but to be sore winners shows what a set of ill mannered chavs Shudds fans sadly are. I can only assume the decent folk of Huddersfield support Town and why wouldn't they. Perhaps that's the answer as to why you have no fans.
