As far as I recall he's already banned from being a director - I'm pretty sure I remember him being banned for an unusually long period - 12 years if I remember correctly.

you have got to agree that is a large sum of vat. at the old rate it (15%) it would equate to an income of over £140,000,000

I would speculate that they were subject of a HMRC investigation raid and that possibly the £21m, as they say, is historical VAT debt... which you might also speculate has been unknown to HMRC until this investigation, by what means we will find out in due course, and of course when HMRC issued the business with their true VAT bill they couldn't pay!!! I would also agree with you TRB that this won't stop there and this story will run for some time!

Equally, I assume that Eric France will now be in effective breach of contract on their shirt sponsorship deal and as such the club can go and sell that space to a new client for the rest (well most) of this season.

This isn't a terrible thing for the club, far from it. It does mean that a bit of extra cash can be brought in from another sponsor, with the potential to roll that onto next season. Get that logo covered up sharpish, even if it's just the club Twitter name (as Valencia did in the Spanish football league) or website address while the space is sold on. No point advertising a duff business.

Sounds like meetings have already taken place regarding a replacement so fingers crossed it is sorted quickly.
