| I thought the game was ours to be won in the first half, but when Aiton broke through and passed into touch, it was the start of the rot for me. That was our chance to put daylight between us and Bradford and kick on. Instead we were playing dumb rugby and gave them the lead at half time.
The defence on BJ's kicks was dire. The ball was floating over and there didn't appear to be a white shirt in sight.
Goal kicking is a massive problem for me. I don't know how long we can carry on trying to convince ourselves that the team have got the confidence to score when they run the ball on a penalty. I think it's more of a case of not having the confidence to kick for goal. The goal kicking clearly hasn't been thought about. Goal kicking is the difference between being in the game and being well and truly out of it when you're trailing by a couple of scores. At 12 behind, 2 tries and 2 goals is achievable by most teams. With no goal kicker you're looking at having to score 3 tries.
The team just haven't clicked yet. I'm sure when they do, games like tonight will be won and not frustratingly lost.

Agree and one of the big problems tonight is that when we were put under pressure or things didn't go our way, there was that certain something missing in the side, that you only get by playing together regularly, that composure, calmness and confidence went missing that you'd find if the team had been together for a couple of years and they just ended losing their heads.
It's a bit infuriating because they created enough chances especially in the first half but they lacked that last pass or key right decision. Even in the disappointing second half they came out strong and scored first and towards the end they nearly scored a brilliant try created by Lauititi, before it got brought back wrongly again for a froward pass.
The discipline was awful and also the defensive set on the last, defending the kick wasn't up to scratch but I still believe the more they play, the better they'll get and when they do play they look a very good side.
Like others have said maybe a little tinkering is needed before we find our best starting 13.

There were just two things we had to do tonight to win the game. Stop Jeffries from kicking the ball, and then make sure we catch it. Without Jeffries, I'm not sure the game would have gone the same way. For each kick, it seemed like there was only ever one white shirt within yards of it, and we attacked each ball with no conviction at all. BJ had so much time for each one he could place them, and to be fair to him, it was a kicking masterclass. Each one right on the try line.

Dont want to be picky Slugger.....but isnt that one thing. If we had stopped BJ kicking it,we wouldnt have had anything to try and catch.

Thank you. I shall be more specific.
There were two things we had to do tonight to win the game, either of which would have sufficed:
1. Stop Jeffries kicking the ball
In the event that Jeffries did in fact kick the ball:
2. Catch it.
That okay for you, pedant.

| The jeffries kicks wouldnt have happened had we not allowed them 50-60 metres every set of 6 even though the majority of their runs were from acting half. Last night we had the worst effort from the markers ive ever seen.

| First half was ok and we should really have gone in with a lead.
Second half, not being able to prevent/ defend their one attacking option (Jeffries kicks) cost us the game. I cant believe that a very poor Bradford side can do that to us.
As a team we lost our heads in the second period and, by conceedind so many penalties we didnt see the bell for almost half an hour.
They scored 4 tries from kicks and one interception, not exactly classic RL, but it won them the game.
Why we didn't fix some cover in defence after they had scored from the Jefferies kicks I really do not know.
Our own kicking at goal is embarrassing, there are better goalkickers playing in U14's that we have, Icannot believe that within the squad there are not 2 or 3 better kickers that John.
I know we have to give the guy chance, but we are going backwards in that department.

Its not about giving people a chance, the fact is he can't kick, not saying he wanted to be the kicker and maybe he's just doing his best, but he can't kick. Still if we carry on like last night we don't really need a kicker.

If silly penalties had not been given away on 4th and 5th tackles Bulls wouldn't have got near the try line so Jeffries wouldn't have ball in hand.simple......discipline and defence wins games.

Stan, thats how Bradford like to play and have done for years, Diskin is very good at attacking that way with the big forwards running of him, its not rocket science to concentrate on shutting this down but it seems we didn't know that.

| I thought we won the first half and without that ridiculous decision to call a forward pass - which, incidentally, was the touch judge's intervention and Thaler's grimace when it was replayed on the big screen showed that even he knew it was wrong - we would have gone in at half time with a lead.
The second half was dire - they'd obviously spotted Mellars defensive weakness and BJ was given all the time in the world to kick us to death; someone needed to shoot out of the line and smash him to bits, but they stood off him; for me, those three quick try's they scored can be attributed to Mellars - Cockayne was totally exposed every time.
Other observations - Bradford should have had a man in the bin in the first half for repeated high shots; Lulia never made a single tackle below the neck for the entire game. And that last try was in no way the result of a forward pass - another bad call.
In the end, discipline and poor defence in the second half cost us a very winnable game; and we desperately need a kicker.

| Terrible disapline, awful defensive structure from kicks and a complete lack of a plan b. Agar has a lot of work to do. I don't want to bag the guy as i think he has talent but Issac John looks way down on confidence, it seems to me rhe goalkicking is affecting him. We sre playing with one halfback at the minute and we need more from one of our imports. Can anybody remind me why we released Gareth Moore again cos i reckon thats looking like a bit of a cock up.

Totally agree with you here, you can see the confidence drain from the lad everytime he steps up and will surley effect his on field play. Mentioned well before the season started that it will bite us not having a recognised kicker and Agar's answer apparently (at an audience with) was that they were bringing specialist coaches in teach him!! I had 8 years piano lessons but I was still #$%* . You have either got it or you ain't.

I can tell you Gareth Moore has played 2 1/2 games for Batley so far this season and scored 44 points, he has kicked 18 goals and 2 tries ? And 3 man of the matches in 3 games to go with it, He has brought a great kicking game with him and is ripping it up in that division, I can tell you Richard Agar hated the kid on a personal matter nothing to do with his rugby ability from day 1, I speak with Gareth regular and he told me Agar made his time under him hell'' driving him out, he used to put him on the wing in training ? He was the best kicker at that club by a mile over the sticks and in field, And Mr Agar shown why many people on his site question his ability as a super league coach !!!

| Not saying the lad lacks quality but its ok scoring 44 points in that league against a lower quality.Agar might have had a thing against him but has Moore a chip on his shoulder. The other thing I ask is why is he still not at Leeds as I would have thought they would want to keep him if he was a cracker jack.Hes not a bad player but aint done it in Super league yet.

| His goal kicking would have been handy but give it a rest, he wouldn't have made next to no difference in the games that have been played. All this stuff about Agar having a personal problem with him, I don't buy for one moment either, if he was good enough he would be playing, end of and we all know doing well in the division below is meaningless at this level.

I wouldn't take it too seriously so soon. OK we SHOULD have been three wins up now but last season there weren't any matches (from memory) where we could say 'we should have won that'.
I honestly think the team will get better but more time needed. Sort out the discipline and definitely the goalkicking and there IS the potential there to win.
At least your lucky in the respect that you can go back to Beverley after the game!

It does happen in all walks of life, boss for whatever reason takes a dislike to a employee and once that happens you only have one winner. It matters not if this person is good at the job.
I have no idea if that happened or not but don't kid yourself that everything that happens is for the good of the team/club.
