| After yesterday's game I felt embarrassed for the sport. The inconsistency from the ref's is a joke, if I performed at work like these idiots do I would be out of a job.
Its just not yesterday's game, it has been like this for the past few years. Sometimes we get decisions in our favor, in the Catalans game I scratched my head a few times with the pens we were awarded?
The Amor high shot was a sending off if ever I saw one. Ali hardly touched Lomax yet he went down like a professional footballer, he was fine when he got what he wanted and started stretching his hamstrings? Jon Wilkin was a grub all game, got away with a blatant shoulder charge to the head? Mathers was sin binned for his charge down on Hampshire, why wasn't Lomax? Can someone tell me how it is acceptable for a Saints Fan (Ganson) to go in and rollock Roby and not relay a message to the coaches?
There are elements creeping into the game that are making it a farce, in a way it is getting like football with player's in the refs ears and performing dives at the ruck to gain a penalty. Im sick of seeing the ball carrier letting go of the ball and getting penalties.
The televised games are nothing short of laughable, poor commentary, poor decisions and they cant even get things right with a video ref. Warrington vs Wigan was awful and nothing was said yet all the commentary team did for the Wakey vs Bulls was slate the standard.
Inconsistency, bent decisions and the RFL sweeping questions under the carpet it is a good job I love Trinity!

| I can understand your frustrations from yesterday andyour comments regarding the sport does raise some good points. Obviously as a saints fan I will challenge some of your arguements regaqrding some of the decisions yesterday. However I will agree that Roby was poor and that the new crop of referees are not getting to the required that this great sport needs.
The biggest problem is inconsistency one ref will blow for something and another will let teams get away with things. Until the standards improve the sport will not move forward. There does not seem a converyor belt of younger referees being fast tracked to Super League. The Childs and Roby's of this world my be capeable linesmen but will never become "good" refs.
However you also commented of the RFL and Sky coverage. Sky need to overhaul there presenters who spout their opinions of decisions and events even though they are often wrong and why can't they just commentate while the games going on instead of arguing between themselves. Andrew Voss showed during theorld cup how a game should be commentated on.
As for the RFL do they know the best way forward for the game. There consistency of the disciplinary panel is a joke, and the promotion of the game is non existent. The world cup showed that there was a market of international competition. The pacific Islanders should be invited to tour the UK either as seperate Islands or as a S Pacific team but alas there is no leadership from the RFL. We could go on.
We will always disagree about Sundays game. Wakey did play well and for a time the game was there for the taking. Had the pass by Riley reached the winger when I think the score was 16-8 I do not think thread would have been posted. Wakey have gone through a great deal recently yet despite this you have put together a strong squad that will win more than it will lose and that in a season of relegation you will be able to breathe easily by mid season
Good luck for the rest of the season

I agree wholeheartedly. Throw in the dodgy disciplinary sentences and the farcial league structure that is coming in and i've pretty much lost all faith in the game.

I'd agree with that and the lack of consistency is a major issue.
What was worse about yesterday was the lack of a consistent approach from the same referee in two halves of the same game - That should not happen. The fact that Ganson visited Roby at half time to have words and then we got a different performance from the ref in the 2nd half is the major issue here.
We all know that different refs apply the rules differently and it is up to the players to react to that, but you shouldn't have a referee applying different standards in 2 halves, especially after the visit of the referees controller. It causes all sorts of conspiracy theories that the game just doesn't need.

| Sorry about that. Calmed down a bit now.
Im enjoying the season and MC has done a fantastic job! Im still in love with the Trin and enjoy watching every week, however, if Wakefield were not around I don't think I would be watching Rugby League.
Thanks for the kind words Sam, I try to be as impartial about the refs but I found it hard viewing yesterday. Saints are my 2nd team in Super League and always have been. Best of luck for the season ahead.

Keep yer chin up jesper.
This season is going to be ok, especially considering where the last one finished.
Most Wakey fans are hacked off with the ref's performance yesterday and I have to say that I used to think Lomax was a quality player but, after his cheating antics yesterday (playing dead one minute and jumping around like 5 year old the next), the guy has dropped massively in my estimation.
Amor's swinging arm, although out of character, was a sending off all day long and why he was only put on report, only the ref knows (and maybe Mr Ganson )
Keep the faith and enjoy the Wakefield roller coaster !

You are right .
I suppose this forum is good for venting frustrations, I feel better after it plus Wilkin and Amor have been charged!

| With regard to the Amor stiff arm incident, I was watching from the stand and what disappointed me was Amor's attitude after the offence when he was laughing as our player was laid low. I lost all respect for a player whom I used to admire greatly. My binoculars don't lie.

| As a Cas fan I have to agree regarding the poor quality of refs. If you watch the Premier sports coverage of the NRL you'll see their refs are about as far ahead of ours as their players are! Why we can't produce some half decent refs god only knows...

| Like most have said I could easily walk away from the game and that's from someone who in the past went to internationals. If Wakey were knocked out of one of the many cups and didn't have a game I would go watch Hunslet,Dewsbury,Batley or any other game.
Remember going to grounds such as Huytons Alt Park and going to Cardiff (Blue Dragons) on a Sunday and game called off due to water logged pitch then going for the rearranged game on the Wednesday.Wigan this season was my first away game in years going on Sunday to KR and that's more to keep the family happy as the twins love the game.SWMBO not a lover of the game but we will make a day of it over early doors probs go in The Deep have a meal and make a day of it.This great game needs to up the anti and sort its self out,we had a very well supported world cup for all the lack of pushing the boat out with advertising it and getting a top notch sponsor for it.As for Refs yes they are only human but this present crop are very inconsistent and Roby on Sunday well what can I say with out getting a ban from the forum.

| Same here, i would watch any game in the area when i was young, 3 games in a weekend was a regular occurrence while doing 2 paper rounds and getting to games and back again on public transport. The main difference seemed to be that all spectators new the rules off by heart (well the ones round me seemed to do) probably because there wern't loads of changes every season. The refs seemed to give much clearer hand signals to indicate an offence and touch judges seemed to run on the pitch to report foul play much more. if some body had told me then that in the future we would be paying over £20 to watch a game of rugby league........

Is this true???
I'm only asking because it seems to me that the rules are there in the official laws of the game. The problem for me is precisely that refs don't enforce the rules. Examples are - all the messing about at the PTB resulting in inconsistent decisions about "interference", refs calling held whilst, clearly, the ball carrier is still making ground etc etc. I think we have the rules - everyone should play to them.

| I normally stay and clap the team off after a good effort, but I was so annoyed with the ref I just walked straight out on the hooter.
I still refuse to believe that Roby has deliberately gone out to sabotage us and is guilty of no more than having an absolute stinker. Players and coaches have them so I'm generally not a fan of getting on their backs too much.
It's a vicious circle, we need more referee's to keep the standards high, but I can't imagine the waiting list to become a Pro Ref is too high due to the vitriol they get for poor performance.

Can't really expect anything else when they let clowns like Stuart Cummings & Ian Smith be in charge of them! The only way officiating will get better is bringing in someone from outside the sport or an ex player to be in charge of officiating and then have it so officials are held responsible for the performance they put in - have a bad week? Next week you're in the Championship, give them a league table and only the top 4 qualify to be eligible for playoff games etc.
Not having neutral refs is a complete joke too.

| the reason I put about rules and laws is because my son and his mate did their level1 refa course last year and the bloke taking the course told them there are only guidelines.that bloke was ben thaler.i am not saying I know more than other people or anything else just what my son told me.it put him off refereeing in the future and he only refs at school for his school work.
