| 1 year deals? Are we giving players 1 year deals to cover ourselves incase we are relegated? Not very optimistic are we? or are we ressigned to not been in Super League in 2015?

| Boring.
Perhaps if the player is crap we could him go after a year rather than pay them for the next few years, a la Vince Mellors.

| We've done this to death on the "why 3 years" thread
Each case is different.
It looks to me like Anderson wants to have a good quick season to get himself known again and then move on. That works for us right now.
We don't waste costs and we get a chance to impress him with Wakefield if we like him.
If we get a "Why 2 year contracts" thread can someone just copy my post over to that one to save time

| Trinity have been burnt with 3 year contracts, I would suggest most of the signings so far are gambles therefore warrant only 1 deals. Wildie being the exception.

I suggest it's to do with his injury record.
One things for sure we are not in a position to sign certainties anyway so I see no need to find ulterior motives when there are far more obvious ones.

John Molloy got an 18 month deal, you weren't happy with that either!

Dont get him started
1 year deal is fine for me, he does not know if we will still be top flight next year and likewise we don't know if he is going to stay fit and actually be worth a longer deal - lets wait and see and good luck to him.

Yeah I agree. Aslong as there are no other reasons.Mellars looked very good for Crusaders I could understand 3 years. He turned out terrible. 1 year deal is very good if they are crap. 1 year is bad if they are very good as they can demand very good money.Gamble lol

| I think one year deals are perfect for this season. Any player on one should be giving their all, if not for the club then at least for their own future.
And talking about Vince Mellars I can think of another couple of players who should have been shown the door last season were it not for the stupid 3 year contracts they are on.

My thoughts exactly.
Players will need to shine in this 1 year to either a. Get an extension for 2015 or b. Put themselves in the shop window to impress another club for a new contract with them.

| we signed J0rdan Tansey on a one year deal to play for his future, and he did really well - signed a new contract mid-way through the season.
Vince Mellars should be 2 words which make you cringe at the thought of three year deals
Nothing to see here.

| Trinity have at the moment to plan for the short term, 6/7 months time the muddy water will be much clearer. I think it is the perfect scinario unless a real proven quality player was available to go with 1 year.
Next season is about not finishing in the bottom 2. Players need to be at their best as often as possible and playing for your future, either with Trinity or elsewhere benefits the club massively even if it is a shirt term tactic.

| I am back but apparently on my final absolutely final never again warning from El Rey. I understand the thinking behind short term contracts but on the other side of the coin if we find a star player we could lose them at the end of the season. We would receive no transfer fees. I guess those that are coming are on the cheap and should we survive they will want to renegotiate their contracts. If they were under two year contracts they will be unable to probably renegotiate a new contract and if they wanted to leave we could demand a transfer fee.
Where would we be now if the likes of Smith, Aiton etc had not signed longer contracts.

I've missed you Agent XIII
Your last point is very pertinent at the moment. It could be said that decision has helped save us.
Deciding what length contract is a tough decision but very important as we attempt to climb back out of the mess.

I can see the logic of your reasoning. I am sure if we identify a [utrue[/u star player longer terms will be offered.
However I am now glad we have learned from Elstons stupidity and are not handing out 3 years deals to all and sundry.

| WTW are damned if they do and damned if they don't. IMHO it is very sensible at this stage to offer 1 year deals to marquee signings such as Anderson who has had a fair share of bad luck in the last 2 seasons with injuries. Probably why the deal worked out is best for both parties gets him back in the shop window competing at a high standard and it gives Trinity a big aggressive prop with a real pedigree. Younger promising signings is different and should be tied down on 2/3 year deals.
From what I've read and heard they are doing a great job in difficult circumstances at the club.

| I don't see the confusion; if he pulls up trees, he signs an extension part way through the season, then if he wants to leave after 1 year, he has some value to the club.
It's not rocket science.
