| IF things come to fruition on the 26th: Will we be the only FT team in the Championship?
Leigh -Were although financial implications now rule them out, to the best of my knowledge?
Fax- Again I thought they were PT now.
Fev- Always been PT?
FWIW I think Leigh could have done us a HUGE favour yesterday. All we need is another team incapable/not interested in applying for SL to win the GF. The fewer qualified/realistic teams ready= the better our chance of being seen as the "certainties" Widnes have been.

| It is possible to run a full-time squad on the 400k that you are allowed to spend but it does rely on good attendences with the massive drop in sky money.

If we have a 20 man squad, thats only an average of £20k per man, £15k per man at the lower £300K cap level
Thats not enough to sustain full time pros, unless they all get jobs on the tills at WYW of course

| No side has been full time in the Championship for a few years now and the main reason is work commitments!
When recruiting you'll find a lot of players have good settled jobs and the income for championship's doesn't fully cover needs. In 2008 we had about half and half full time and part time but the full time players were bascially doing nothing in the day waiting for the rest to train at night so we did away with it to get the best out of our training schedules and keep the extra do in the pocket!

You can apply to spend up to 400K if you want and it has been said on numerous occasions this is something that we would do if we went down.

The top players in the championship are on that already as part-time players! Anyone who thinks we can stay full-time is kidding themselves i'm afraid. Yes we can apply for an extra 100k for the first year only, but by the time we will be trying to offer deals to the standard of player we will require to have a chance of winning silverware in that division, most will have already agreed their deals for next year elsewhere.

I'd severly doubt it! Was only lowered 2 years a go and only about 2 clubs voted against it! Their is hardly any money outside fans through gates in the Championship which will hit any club hitting the drop after a few years. Also they are looking at expanding the championship from next year so won't want to make it even more divided as tbf the cap is doing it's job down here in terms of competition unlike in SL.
On the extra 400k you can use that if you hit a turnover of £1million which after SL no doubt you will for the first year at the very least.

No chance, clubs are already spending more than they earn. At best it will stay as it is, though it could even effectively reduce for a while whilst clubs sort their finances out.

| Having thought about it, is there really any need for a salary cap in the Championship?
I am saying this because without Promotion and Relegation a club has no need to spend loads of cash in order to achieve romotion so therefore without a cap clubs would be able to spend an amount the deem fit. This would mean that the smaller clubs would not try and outspend themselves in order to get close to the cap and the bigger clubs would be able to have full-time squads and surly having more full-time players would improve the quality of the game.

Laugh all you want but soon enough it will likely be those sorts of players you'll be needing to make yourselves a success, Nanyn particularly. Some of you think you'll be walking the championship if you get the drop. Well it isn't that easy. The cap is very egalitarian and the best championship level players spread across the teams.
You might find a strong academy is your trump card and you will need to hang on to it at all costs.

Yes... protect clubs from overspending... which doesn't work because some clubs can't make that amount.

The cap in the championship is quite low and works rather well actually. Teams like Batley and Barrow can come from nowhere and compete.

| The championship is a very competitive league. Wakey will retain few of their current players and will have to seek to recruit a squad fit for the championship from scratch - as opposed to the current clubs who have settled(ish) squads! Not easy.
Anyone who thinks the championship will be a cake-walk for Trinity will be very disappointed next season. It's not the same sort of league as it was previously when SL clubs got relegated!!

I don't think it will be a cake walk, in fact I think it will be the second season before Trinity can get enough stability to make a push for the championship.

If anybody really thinks we will walk the league next year should we go down they run the risk of looking arrogant and silly

That's kind of my assessment. It's an extremely competitive league and often relies on the quality of your youth set up to help you out when injuries take their toll! Of course in the championships Dual Reg will help short term (Oh that's another beauty of the RFL - You'll just love that down here), but the conditioning set up and youth recruitment (on sod all money) will be what you will rely on when things get tough.
Next years team will have some 'fluidity' to it until the coaching team gets settled and as you predict, the following year should be better.
However, and the big crux will be, - how many of your fan base will you retain for games at Dews in front of 1200, or at Workington or Gateshead in the NRC in front of 500 after a year down here in the silage???
Cos that my firend will be the basis of your budget for the following year.
I'm suspecting you'll see a fair amount of stay-aways initially, but the crowds will probably hold up well for the 3 years period all holding/hoping/trusting in the belief that Trinity will be brought back into SL.
When that doesn't happen owd cock, that's when you'll see the drain-away!!! That's when budgets are tight and reality bites it worst!!
Life down here in the sludg??? Oh aye - isn't it just marvellous!
