| I think it's about time that the boards of Wakefield & Castleford sat down and discussed sharing a stadium.
Surely the positive's must heavily outweigh the negative's.
I despise Castleford as much as most people, but i also think that for the future of both clubs, 1 stadium to seat 20,000+ is the answer.
We can argue all day about where the ground should be located & what it should be called. but I'm sorry to say that i can't see either club getting it's new home underway in time for 2010.
Wakefield council don't seem to have the money or motivation for this project.

Do you really mean that or are they just local rivals who you like to get one up on.
FWIW I don't think you would find a more suitable location than Newmarket for a ground share. Cas were obviously given the opportunity and refused but if they had joined in with us then I would not have had a problem with it.
Anyhow Cas are insecure and the thought of leaving Cas is a non starter for them. They think they can deliver at Glasshougton so they must be left to get on with it.

| Where would the stadium be?
Castleford have put so much time, effort and money into the Glasshoughton project so i suggest it be there with the wildcats paying rent, no thought not.
Or even
Both teams build there own stadia 5 miles apart, we are not AC/Inter Milan we are 2 different places within 1 district, lets stay that way.
Does it really matter how close the stadiums are?? Dundees stadium are about 40 yards apart and its never bothered them.
Lets just build our own stadiums and then we will have 2 state of the art facilities close together, thats will begood for the local economy.

| We need to get real, 2 state of the art stadiums, built for the same purpose within 10-15 min's of each other - It's not good business sense.

I agree.
Against a ground share personally. The RFL are looking to expand the game and perhaps won’t be particularly happy about two sides operating out of the same stadium.
If, as some suggest, Cas and Wakefield have no chance of getting their individual stadiums started by 2010 then surly the same would apply to building a joint 20K stadium.
People may not like it but the issue is the location, anywhere else but Cas and their fans will see it as being in Wakefield, and Glasshoughton is very much in Castleford so Wakefield fans will not be happy about supporting their side there.
If there was to be a ground share at either of the two locations then one club would become dominant and with that a merger would be on the cards.
With the access roads Normanton would be the best place to locate a joint stadium but too much time, effort and money has been placed on the two proposed sites and I really think it’s too late to start all over again from scratch.

The boards of both clubs would say the same, so unless the council can bang so heads together it wont happen.
Like, mutts my primary concern is to see WTWRLFC in the top_flight and survive and if that means a shared ground so be it.

| It would make logical sense to share a stadium somewhere inbetween the two but since when has that come into ideas about a new stadium/ like prince buster said Cas have been offered to share Stanley and turned it down. Whats more to be said? The only way it could happen if we build our stadium and Cas cant get theirs off the ground in time.. in the meantime our club seem to be doing quite well at taking the 'bull' by the horns and getting on with it!

| Wakey to Cas - 'Come and share with us'
Cas to Wakey - 'No thanks'
Wakey to Cas - 'Could we use your stadium as an option?'
Cas to Wakey - 'You're not part of our plans!'
It's a little para-phrased - but that's where we're at in essence.
FWIW, I know that the option for Cas to join us is still open, and the take up of that offer will hinge entirely on whether Cas feel that their project is deliverable, however, I for one would sincerely hope that we achieve separate stadia for the retention of the identities of each side and the affiliation with their home City/Town, as without these identitities we have little to shout about.
For all that I love the sport of RL, I love my club above the game and a big part of that affection is based on the identitiy with the City of Wakefield - my home!

| Wakey to Cas - 'Could we use your stadium as an option?'
Does not sound like a confident statement from Wakey over there development. To get something built you have to be 100% commited. Lip service and other options detract from your chances IMO.
How realistic is wakeys new stadium at Stanley? Is it just a pr/licence game as other clubs fans suggest?
I for one hope it's the real deal and we achieve something but there are doubts.

Oh for goodness sake - I didn't put a timescale on it - it was part of the discussions leading us to this point - used to explain why we are NOT at this time looking at a joint venture with Cas.
Stanley is realistic. It is on available land, with available funding and the support of the local authority. We have to draw it; get planning; get the funding finalised (well on the way and we know it's available) and get it built.
THIS is what we have been working for. It is our one chance - possibly our only chance. Get behind it!

now we open up debate and the fact that fev always gets left out of the equation is yet another headache for all parties . do we invite them to join or stand back and see them build a stadium and then fall/rise the very bottom or top..

This is good news, particularly the funding. Its usually the funding that screws up the job but if we have it then we are well on our way.
Are we confident of the planning ? If we are and funding is available there is no reason that we cannot start building immediately on receipt of planning. If planning is applied for in September and has full support of the Council and its "fast tracked" we could have a consent by Spring/Summer 2010 and have a stadium ready to start Super League in 2012.
