Amidst all the sad news that we've had to endure over the last week there were a couple of good news stories that have almost sneaked under the radar.

Richard Moore is reported to be ready for full training after having gained almost a stone in weight. Richard seems to be winning his battle with Crohn's disease which at one time threatened his career. I'm not sure how far off Richard is from being in contention for the first team but if he can regain his form he will offer a much needed remedy to our front row woe's.

Secondly the much anticipated arrival of Frank Winterstein last Wednesday will offer John Kear some options to reshuffle his pack. If big Frank, who has been training with the Bulldogs, can hit the ground running he may find himself thrust into the big time sooner rather than later.

However if we were looking to bolster our front row whilst Rickie Bibey, Richard Moore and James Stosic are out injured, then there are a couple of established front rowers kicking their heels in the reserves at other clubs.

It was interesting to see that the one-time reported target of ours, Jamie Thackery, was playing reserve football against harlequins last week. His front row partner Dominic Maloney might also be an option. Across the city at Hull Kingston Rovers David Mills was playing against Salford City Reds reserves.

Perhaps a little more ambitious might be a bid for Wigan Warriors highly rated prospect Lee Mossop. He's been gaining rave reviews all season for his commanding performances and is expected to blossom into one of the best front row or second row forwards we have produced in this country for a long time. I don't think for a minute that Wigan would allow us to take Mossop on anything more than a short-term loan but once with the club who knows, look what happened when Ryan Atkins joined us on loan from Bradford.

Not really front rowers but interesting all the same are the appearances of Richard Whiting, Danny Walshbrook in reserve team football. Also the seemingly non-progression of Mark Flanigan from reserve team football at Wigan. Flanagan is a very talented loose forward who has had a few injuries but now seems to be back to full fitness. He's another young English forward who would benefit from either a loan or a permanent transfer to another club who might offer him first team football.

we will try and get by with what we have at the moment. Don't forget Korki either he's not getting picked at Huddersfield

Be open to any of the others though. Didn't realise Bibey's injury was that bad.

I think the difficulty is that he is on a part time contract so could not train with the first team. Part time players are okay for the odd game but we need a front row for a month or more.

I would bring someone in as I think we need some firepower in the front row until Moore, Stosic or Bibby return. Stosic and Bibby are 8 weeks plus away and I heard that Moore could be 4 to 6 weeks.

An optimist might say that we are shaping up for a very impressive end of season, with the amount of players who will be back and raring to go.

funny that, i said the other day that if things drop right we are all set for a cup run, wed have a hell of a pack available in about 8 weeks all fresh and all raring!

Even with everybody back IMO we are short up front.

he was approached in pre season but matterson wouldnt let him go but now hes not getting any first team game time i believe waky have asked for him for a spell on loan again. thats what i was told in lloyds bar by his agent anyway

IMHO I think we missed out big time on not signing Thackray up last season when we had the chance. He's exactly the type of big, strong, aggresive forward we are missing in my opinion.

If he's not getting into the Hull side then I think we should defo be interested in taking him on loan if possible.

Korki will not make the team at Shudds and he maybe another option. kear had him playing well before he left and I'm sure JK and Beans could weave their magic with him.

Other than a few options thats already been mentioned, I'm not sure there's that many other options available in SL.

IMHO I'd be tempted to look in NL1 and see if there's any more rough diamonds we can tempt to join us. The big lad Simpson at Batley must surely be worth a look. He's got the size. If we could get him fit he "could" potential be worth a gamble.

I'm sure there are a few players i can't think of now in SL who aren't currently making their relevant club starting 17 but would they be right for us?

We never had the chance because we were never willing to pay the cash he wanted and duly pee off the rest of the pack and use up every spare penny we had. Stosic was a far better option - the fact that he is now injured is a hindsight issue. It's never that simple, at the start of this season we had 4 out and out props and three others capable of playing in the front row, it would have been lunacy to sign anymore. Sometimes the dice won't tumble your way, but by july we might have Moore and Bibey back and there won't be a problem.

Also, if his recovery and rehab go to plan Stosic should be back early June.

I'm sure though to a small section of their reserve team following he is a 'crowd pleaser'.

For me he was the right player in 2003, if he's all that's on offer now then Ricky Bibey's enhanced contract should be posted imediately

Oh i agree Rickey deserves a bigger contract, anyway back to Korki and the fact that he's the best
