| Hi all,
I am in at the moment putting together an idea for an article for this years programme.
Having done 2 years of 'Blast from the Past', (which I won't be able to do this season for various reasons), this years feature has the working title or 'Pause, Rewind, Re-Play' and is based on some loose memories (not meant to be a verbatum set of stats) about significant games and memories / links to the team we are playing.
You can help with this (especially the older - 50+ guys & gals)!
First up - Salford.
What does that mean to you? Sure we all remember Harbins Heroes, even our first win in SL, but how do you remember it?
Be warned though - any good replies may be quoted in the article, together with the usual bull**** that I have to put!
Go on - you know you want to!

| Winning at Salford 8 - 4 in 2nd Round of Challenge Cup on our way to Wembley in 1968.
Was a BBC televised Saturday afternoon match - went with a friend and sat in the Stand down the side of the pitch.

| Salford were the opponents for the first Trinity game I ever went to at the back end of the 60's. (I was about 13 or 14). We walked to Belle Vue from the bus station after getting the bus from Ossett (the Ossett 'twenty')
The only player I can remember from either side is Charlie Bott who played for Salford, probably because a bloke was taking the mick out of his surname Probably an early descendent of an inhabitant of Clown Corner?
Nearly forty years on and I'm still watching. The game is a drug (Class A) and I can't give it up

And.... I'll need a little more meat on the bones!
Big crowd / small crowd; can you remember the scorers (Fox N by any chance?); muddy??? Eddie Waring?????? (I guess you wouldn't remember that as you wouldn't have the tape set for when you got home!); Did you go on the bus??? You really know you want to tell me!

I went to that game. From what I remember the place was packed. The covered stand wasn't behind the posts it was just a huge open terrace on that end, much like Belle Vue today.
Getting there was quite novell also. The club chartered a special train that went from Kirkgate to Manchester and then you had to find your own way up to the ground from the City station.
I also remeber an incident on the way back. The train was waiting on one of the outer platforms. It was a huge train and was packed with people. Back then football hooliganism was at its peak and most fans of the bigger clubs got around the country on chartered trains. There was a soccer train nearby (Sunderland I believe) and a group of about twenty of them came over to try and make trouble with the rugby guys from little old Wakey. The Wakey guys responded and quickly sent them on their way.

Yeah it was.
My memories from that game, aside from surviving relegation, was the actions of good old Bobbie Goulding. Gave me the best laugh I’ve ever had at a match. The two fingered salute, the disallowed interception try, getting sin binned (for throwing the ball away?) then getting into a fight with Justin Brooker on his way to the bench and then getting sent off.

Come on - its 41 years ago
Must have gone on coach seeing as neither of us were old enough to drive, and must have been Eddie Waring who was doing commentary but, as you say, never saw it.
Only other thing I remember was that it was extremely nerve wracking waiting for the final whistle ... but that's the norm when watching us win isn't it?!
Another memory I have of Salford (but you won't want to print this ) was 3 or 4 years ago when I was doing an Academy match, which was the curtain raiser for the 1st Team, and having stones and bricks thrown at the Team Bus as we left

| Don't think so .. the home ones are identical!
You have to be a 3 foot midget to stand up along one side and the showers and toilets are kind of open plan in the corridor

Bobbie got binned for deliberate off side. He then threw the ball at the back of Brooker's head, who turned round, ran after him and give him a good smack. Both where then sent off (i think ?) and both benches had to try to keep them apart as they carried on scrapping into the tunnel.
I think Alker got sent off at some point too for fighting with D. March? May have just been a yellow, but for some reason I remember it ending 11 vs 12

It was 10 in the end - 3 sent off from Salford! To this day I can't understand the way Salford approached that game!

Remember the game. Didn't go on the train as it only took you to Manchester but as my Dad was an Engine Driver we went on the normal train and he got us a train to close to the ground. We also chartered a train to Barrow in the previous round which we went on.
The problem with us over 50's is that the memory is starting to do a bit. Remember winning 8-4 which I think was the same score we had beaten Barrow in the previous round after which we complained about the referee a Mr John Hebblethwaite and we know how he got his own back on us.

Ah yes I remember the ball throwing incident now. All adds to the comedy value. A Salford player definitely got sent off for tripping. Don’t know who it was though.

I thought he was binned and then sent off for walking back slowly following the interception? The yellow card came out when he was about half way back and when he continued to walk back instead of off the pitch the red followed. That's how I remember it anyway.

Was it not Stuart Littler?
Blobby Goulding was winding the wakey fans up for that entire game...i remember him sticking to fingers up at us all after Salford scored their first try!
I think Justin Brooker secured his place in my all time wakefield 13 when he smacked Blobby in the face!
The wakey shirt John Harbin was waving above his head after that game was my mates shirt, which had Adam Hughes name and number on the back...good thing he didnt hold that up!

Goulding, Holroyd and Littler sent off for Salford.

| My least favourite Salford moment is at the Willows in 2002, when we were winning 22-12 with 5 minutes to go and managed to draw 22-22!
I seem to remember Salford keeping the ball alive on the last tackle for about 2 minutes before scoring the try to draw level!
I left that game thinking relegation was on it's way!

No he's a Salford lad.
That game was also his debut. What a match to make your debut in and at 17 years old too.
