Apologies if this has been posted already but there was an article in Pont and Cas Express today about Leeds Council opposing your stadium plans.
Stumbled across this in my search for it (looks same information in essence)
Quote A development which includes a 12,000-seater stadium for rugby league side Wakefield Wildcats would have detrimental effects on Leeds's green belt, concerned councillors have said.
The stadium, large warehouse units, a 120-bedroom hotel and a drive-through restaurant would be built off junction 30 of the M62, near the boundary of Leeds and Wakefield.'"

| Like I said earlier on a different thread, Wakefield should side with Sheffield and oppose the Leeds Arena!
The traffic heading towards the Arena will cause major problems on the M1 Northbound as it moves past Junctions 39, 40, & 41. This in turn will create traffic issues on Denby Dale Rd, Dewsbury Rd, Leeds Rd and the Dual carriageway which is the main rd used by West Yorkshire police vehicles. All these Rds are major arteries providing access into and out of Wakefield for commuters, residents and commercial traffic.
If the service roads into and out of Wakefield distribution base are detrimentally affected then future relocations into Wakefield by multinational, Blue chip companies is jeopardised. In addition there is the potential for Wakefield’s location as a service & distribution hotspot being ruined by Leeds Council. Thousands of present and future jobs will be on the line as a result.
Did Leeds City Council consult Wakefield Met Council before forging ahead with plans for this Arena!

Two can play at that game![/size

| If I was Wakefield Council I would tell them to **** off. If it falls within Wakefield Councils jurisdiction then what the hell does it have to do with them??
If the boot was on the other foot and they were building just their side of the boundary and Wakefield complained do you think they would listen, would they hell!!

| It was initially in the papers a couple weeks before the election. I don't think there is much substance to it and i don't believe that Leeds council can influence the decision.

| As far as I am aware the people that matter in Leeds Council have been consulted and kept informed about the development all along and have no problems at all with it - quite the opposite in fact
I think the councillors referred to in the article are the ones the NIMBYS have enlisted with their scaremomgering half-truths.

| It reminds me very much of a report from the YEP or YP about a month back so I don’t know whether it’s recycled old news that came from the councillors pre-election (when they were chasing votes).
TRB will be able to clarify things but I though LCC were involved in the initial design of the scheme.

| Before I moved to Peterborough I lived in Leeds for about 30 years and I am aware of a developments that Leeds City Council allowed to be built on "Green Belt" land. It never seems to bother them when they are set to reap the financial rewards.
Besides I would take what LCC say with a pinch of salt. They have been building this 'Arena' since Jesus was a lad, not to mention their ill fated supertram. I would suggest that LCC get there own house in order and worry more about what going on in their own city and let WMDC get on with running theirs.

I suspect this is grandstanding by some councillors who want to be seen to be taking action having been lobbied by the NIMBY's; they do what they have to do to show that they've tried, then move on.
Next!

For someone who followed ice hockey back in the day, the 'Leeds Arena' always amuses me. Leeds United spent ÂŁ250k on rights to a franchise for their Superleague from the Sheffield Steelers then add on to that the other costs of designs and staff hired for something never built!
If anyone outside scuppers this development, it will be a very sad day...unless Leeds City Council are going to create thousands of jobs on the doorsteps of WMDC residents.

| For clarity:
We expect LCC to support the scheme, although there will be some people - councillors included - who will object.
This is not, nor is anywhere near, a show-stopper!

| Maybe Leeds council should flatten Aysgarth and other nearby parts of Lupset and re-house residents if they are truly concerned about trees.

| Leeds Council should stick to sorting out there own back yard as far as i am concerned.
As a side note anybody who didn't go to the Trinity Legends Dinner Last Sat at the Cedar Court might be interested in what Mr Box reaction was when the MC introduced Sir Rodney Walker & asked about was we going to get a new Stadium or not Then privately on is own table Mr box said YES HE IS,I was sat next to him on a another table & it seemed like one of those moments when you say some thing out loud instead of just thinking it.So for me Mr Box & Sir RODS came over very well in there speechs to everyone at the dinner & here hoping that there pull it off for us all.

| The blog from the meeting (taken from [url=http://www.guardian.co.uk/leeds/2010/may/13/leeds-city-council-plans-east-meetinghere[/url)

Councillors are being asked to comment on a consultation by Wakefield Council for an outline plan for a mixed-use development (includign hotels, offices and restuarants) and a 12,000-seater stadium to be occupied by the Wakefield Wildcats. The plan isn't in Leeds, but it is on the boundary of the city on Newmarket Lane.

The Wildcats are seeking a new stadium to preserve their Super League status. However plannign officer criticises inadequate parking, highways issues, public transport and the over-estimation of the use of walking. A very significant intrusion into the green belt between Leeds and Wakefield is how the officer describes it.

Rothwell councillor Don Wilson said that the Wildcats need a stadium We were not ifnrmed about the distribution centre.

Oops! will try to clarify last post. Joe Marjoram says the development's not welcome. Don Wilson also expressed concerns about the impact on the green belt. Keith Parker says there's no reason why Leeds should be disadvantaged because Wildcats are in trouble. Parker added the Wildcats should share with Castleford Tigers.

Congreve added: "We would not have it in Leeds in the green belt, we shoudl oppose it best we can."

Finnegan said that Leeds council should ask the secretary of state to intervene.

Leeds council will feed back its concerns about the impact on the green belt to Wakefield Council.
by GdnLeeds at 5/13/2010 5:11:45 PM13 May 2010 18:11:45

And that's it. With a degree of hostility and anger towards Wakefield, the meeting ends.

| its about time we started to fight fire with fire where leeds is concerned , not happy at edging more and more of the merrie city into their own but now they want to stop progression in a neighbouring city ... sounds more like sour grapes to me ..... IIRC many moon ago they got all shirty about junction 41.
i say kick leeds out of yorkshire and let them start their own county .... leeds twined with bigotville

| I wouldn't be too concerned. Wakefield council will make a decision based on what is best for Wakefield just as Leeds would if it was their council. Leeds are welcome to voice their concerns if they feel it's significantly impacting upon them but that is very debateable. It's no wonder we have NIMBY's when the counciller's can't see the bigger picture.
I'd expect they'd inform us in a professional manner of their concerns and we'd reply with viable solution's if required.
That said, for councillers who are so concerned for Leeds it has taken a long time for them to voice their concerns. Which is a shame because i'm sure YorkCourt would have been very accommodating with them if they'd have shown up sooner

| The report contained in the link from Nev0807 is slightly concerning as this appears to give the impression that Leeds City Council will oppose the development.
The most concerning thing is that they seem to base their decision on a number of the inaccuracies that the NIMBY's have been peddling about.
Lets hope their view does not have too much bearing on matters
