| I think this puts to rest our starting number 7. I bet TJ wished he was playing on the right wing.

| Everything good came through Mason Lino, let's hope he can do it against the big boys. But I think he's done more than enough to earn the starting shirt at Leeds.

Everything good came from Lino, Truman and Jowitt.
Powell already made his mind up before this game it was Trueman and Lino. It was obvious to us fans that with Russell at 9 that was that.
Russell though hasn’t really had the same opportunity to line up alongside Truman so we don’t really know how that works just yet. Unfortunately no more trial games means we go with what works (for now).
Luckily for us Trueman and Lino seem to fit together seamlessly. It is very very silky to watch the ball movement and the way they link up. Date I say it, Lino looks a different player this season and together they could be electric.
I wouldn’t change hardly anything for next week. Perhaps only M.Russell to drop out and a forward to come in on the bench.

I thought Russell was the strongest ball carrier out of all of the backs today, which isn't surprising because that's always been his game. It's something I know Powell is massive on. I wouldn't be surprised to see him start on the wing next week.

Agree Russell was sharp today, thought the head knock shook him for a while, Uhele was outstanding today but Storton impressed me, deserved the MOM, but an excellent professional performance from the whole group ![CLAP ]({SMILIES_PATH}/eusa_clap.gif)

That’s not the issue with Russell. It’s when he drops the ball 2/3 times a game and makes errors. The one today when he received a pass with touchline ahead and fumbled it under zero pressure then played ball incorrectly etc. I’m not sure on his defence as not seen it but he wasn’t tested there today but we already know Walmsley is defensively sound too.
Walmsley has impressed on the Wing spot on vs Leeds, Cas and today so I can’t see him not starting. Russell will push him though which is a good thing. Hopefully the trinity fans apprehensions about Walmsley will be put to bed by time we get a few games into the season.

Playing very well right now.
Also think Ollie Russell looked lively when he came on

I don't think he makes anymore errors that Walmsley tbh, I think the dropped ball you are referencing was a really poor pass he was trying to catch above his head wasn't it? I really like Walmsley and I really want him to do well, I just think he lacks a bit of physicality, which is something that has been highlighted by Powell and he needs to be a bit more confident under the high ball as he does get caught out.

| It wasn't really a contest and I kind of knew it wouldn't be but I went along more to support the Challenge Cup and the Rugby League family of which Goole are a part of more than anything else .
Trinity were hugely professional and kept the intensity going for more or less the full 80 minutes .
I thought TJ played well within himself and it was good for him to get a game in his legs in preparation for next week .
Agree about the Lino - Trueman partnership , we could be on to something here , fingers crossed Trueman keeps fit because he's a class act .

Trueman looks full of confidence which is great to see as I haven't seen him play like that since he was playing at Cas, he has looked brilliant in pre season.

The pass was fine. I was in E1 and in line with it. With no player within 10 yards of him he fumbled it. Should have been taken.
Walmsley doesn’t make as many errors and made very few last season. He is prone to the odd one though too.
Yes Powell did mid season say that about Walmsley, though towards the end of the season he then praised the improvement in Walmsley for his 100+ metre carry games. He made a comment about it a few months ago but that was more around toughness in staying down injured rather than running the ball out. Walmsley improved that side enough that he’s adequate. He will finish try’s from all over though on the right and has the pace and we need that. Not everyone is as confident Walmsley will be good in SL and that’s fine. We will wait and see how he goes.

True, I was impressed with his defensive game, especially only having one session and a quick turnaround, I don’t think anyone in the ground today would have predicted a winning margin like that before the game just goes to show how far Wakey have come and progressed in just a short time, I had the pleasure of having a good natter with John Kear and Steve Mills during the match and was even more confident of the season ahead

And handled Ryan Hall well for 80 minutes too.
I’ll support and cheer for whoever pulls on the shirt though in the end.

| Despite the big score it was the 0 that impressed me the most.
The defensive effort and attitude was top notch from the first to the last minute.
Line speed was smothering and hopefully set the standard for the start of the league campaign.
Some cracking performances but for me we have a potential star of SL in Uele. Done very well to get him on a long term contract.

Think the same applies to Rodwell (of those yet to play SL).
Uele looks even fitter than last season, clearly he has been working hard. We are incredibly lucky to have prop forwards with engines like we do.

| One thing that also impressed me was last season we had periods of maybe 15 mins where we dropped our intensity but yesterday was continuous every minute we looked very dangerous. Really hard to mark players that didn't have a good game. I keep saying hooker with Doyle injured is our weakest position but how good was Hoody yesterday?
As a natural worrier where Wakefield are concerned, I'm really thinking we just might have something here. It's not the internationals that make me feel this but until his injury Cam Scott looks total class. Storton just looks like someone who does the 1%er really well,

Walmsley makes virtually no yardage playing out of defence , neither does hall and Pratt despite being able to break the line rarely makes more than a few yards out of defence so purely in our ability to drive out under pressure would have Russel starting ,

That’s the thing isn’t it. Powell is big on yardage out of our own end. Johnstone is very good at it and Matty Russell is also. Unfortunately that’s not a strong part of Walmsleys game. When Harry Smith has got you pinned down in your own 20 most sets you need that punch coming out.

| Despite the obvious difference in class yesterday but also factoring in the Cas friendly it's really looking like we've assembled a huge upgrade of players from previous Super League campaigns .
It's not the finished article by any means but just simply looking at the speed we transfer the ball and the shapes we are attacking with it bodes very well for a good campaign .
Storton and McMeekan are exceptional Super League players to have in our ranks , 8 out of 10 guys every week who do the basics extremely well , no errors , just super solid reliable forwards to build off .
I'm predicting a really tight game at Headingley , it might come down to Max off the tee in my opinion .
Golden point drop goal in front of a packed out West Terrace is my prediction .
Up The Trin .
