And similarly the articles I have read - including one by an ex chief scientist to the WHO to say that we are on target for this to now move forward.

I’m sorry, but I have to say I think you are wrong. You, me, everyone is responsible for our own actions. I’m sure you are not a child, but a responsible adult. Responsible people should set a good example and do the right thing. My wife is Shielded. Therefore I have to be extremely careful when I go out usually twice a week locally. I, like most people would love to do the normal thing, but sensible people have to do the right thing for themselves and others, and not to use the stupid actions of one man as an excuse to do the same stupid things that could undo all the sacrifices most people have made these past few weeks. If the players are tested and are negative then games behind behind closed doors I don't see as a problem, as has been said, this virus will be around probably years and we have to learn to live with it.
That said, the people who have flouted the rules, on beaches and other beauty spots completely ignoring advice, IMO, are irresponsible idiots and although I empathise with the racism protestors they too are taking risks for themselves and others!

Not sure the game is in a financial position to have a testing programme. I understand the sport would have to pay for tests at not an insignificant cost overall. Coupled with the fact it's up against a 300k (I believe) potential shortfall from Sky related to fulfilling the TV contract. Coupled with the information from RU that if players train in a group as part of their employment then the furlough scheme would not be available according to advice from HMRC it's a complex situation to say the least!

Yes I agree it is complicated and as you point out the cost of testing would no doubt be huge. I'm back on the fence!

The messages sent out by the government have been left wide open to interpretation.
The government said recently you could travel thats why thousands turned up on the beaches and beauty spots. Its also interesting that councils opened previously closed car parks.

Regardless of Govt. advice, I'm still using common sense same as my elderly neighbours and relatives. Lets hope any further cases are restricted to these idiot tourists and mass protestors.

The advice allowing people to travel "anywhere" for exercise was reckless.

Back to sport - if we can control the training and playing environments, coupled with suitable testing the, it may be possible to get moving again but there are still plenty of unknowns and watching a game in a stadium full of supporters seems to be a long way in the future
