Interesting article in League Weekly today re Neil Fox turning down the opportunity to present the winners with the Challenge Cup this month. He puts it down to the somewhat over exposure of their Don in the media this year and the '68 cup final in general. It refers also to the fact that the WT fans were somewhat peed off with the overlooking of Big Neil's inclusion on the Wembley statue. I don't blame you, Neil!!!

Good on you Neil, also always gets my goat when listening to sky commentators going on about how many points sir Kev and others scored, never a mention of Neil's record points scored, and this when a try was only 3 points.

Neil told me this a few weeks ago, absolutely true.

They would be better waiting till 2020 and asking him on the anniversary of the 1960 Hull game...... So that they can specifically celebrate him and Wakefield Trinity.

When you look at the so-called sporting heroes that kids respect and look up today (a certain England cricketer springs to mind}, I'm glad I was brought up in the era that I was, and a certain Neil Fox was to me the ultimate sporting hero. We lost another a few weeks ago. Let's hope that NF is around long enough to see his own personal statue gracing the forecourt of Wembley Stadium (preferably with his middle finger raised towards Red Hall.)

It wasn't Red Hall though. It was a public vote and not enough people backed Neil. Shame on all of us for letting that happen.
If it ever comes round again we have to vote.

Like you redscat i was lucky enough to be brought up watching the great trinity sides of the 60s of which neil was a super star,how a world recod holder of points scored in our game, a man of the match winner when in those days was the biggest game in our calander could not get a place in the statue to the greats of our game is unbelievable.Dont get me wrong billy boston , alec murphy and and eric ashton were true greats of our game gus risman was just before my time but im afraid martin offia while a very good winger but with his pace playing in an outs tanding wigan side he had to score lots of trys but an alltime great no way

I agree with what you say entirely, but I'm sure that The RFL could have redressed the balance somewhat. Come on now, five Lancashire clubs represented and three from Wigan, I ask you!!!
Neil deserves a statue in his own right if only for the personal records he holds within the game.

Totally agree with him, a travesty that he isn't honoured like the other 'greats' he should have been the number one choice never mind not being part of it.

Dare I say the vote should only have been treated as "advisory" and a reflection of the populous of the bigger clubs, not the history of the game. An independent panel should have decided the personalities on the statue based on achievements in the game. But nah, let's have a popular vote and clubs with 10k+ fan bases influence that vote, that won't be controversial will it!
