| Can't see it - why would the game risk losing a top flight heartlands club on the off chance it takes root in another city? Especially after all the other failed projects like Paris & Crusaders etc.
I suppose though if it were going to happen, we'd be high on the list given the current stadium predicament

Sure I posted about this earlier - I wonder if a close European city (Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt..) would try to entice a ready made big team like Wigan with the promise of their own stadium? Agreed, they're more likely to try and attract a club like us (or Salford, Huddersfield) that struggles, for whatever reason, to attract big crowds.

| Like everything in the modern world, it's all about marketing.
If you can persuade people that, watching RL is THE biggest thing to do with your spare time then ,it's job done but, as most of us know, it's usually a very hard sell and there would be no guarantee of success.
Having said that, it could allow Trinity to relocate to a different city. Although, I dot see us being the biggest draw in the sport.
It's interesting that this is up for discussion and usually, something has gone on behind the scenes prior to this kind of story coming out.

| if this is true, what gets to me is there seems to be cities that recognise the benefit of having a recognised super league club and would welcome them into their areas and we have a council like ours who seem to put everything in the way to prevent it and nothing to support it.

| Let's not beat about the bush, and this isn't about bashing MC, but the only way it can happen is if MC puts his own financial stake above the heritage of the club within the city. It's a tough one for him. It's a gamble, because it might not work, but he might get the support of a council prepared to fund or help out in some way.
It's his money, I get that, and I'd understand his reasons, but he wouldn't be taking me with him, nor my good wishes.
Or it it another game of poker, which he plays very well .....

If I was a major European city wanting to join the RL merry-go-round I'd look to entice one of the big teams that is regularly messed about by a soccer team they share a stadium with. Id start with Wigan, then Hull, then Huddersfield. Of the three, Hudds look to be the most likely success - their teams in decline, their crowds are poor and IF the soccer team get promoted then they'll want first dibs on all stadium issues.

But it requires the desire of the club owner to move. I doubt Ken Davey would be too interested. MC might be, because he can't see a future ahead because of the ground issue. Having awkward fixtures isn't quite the same as having a ground the RFL won't allow in Super League.
The difference will be about the branding.
Let's say we move to Bristol. Is it Bristol Trinity with the same badge? That is, a name and badge that are all about Wakefield, not Bristol, or is it really MC investing in a club a long way from home that will have council and RFL backing and closing down his Wakefield operation?

| Sounds like a bit of a life line for us, lets get the hell out of BV and Wakefield and get to Barnsley or Doncaster where we would be welcomed by local council and not abused like we are now by Box and his cabinet of sycophants

Doncaster RLFC might not be too happy about that - although we could merge with Donny and Sheffield, play at the Keepmoat and just be called Trinity. Maybe we could get the cast of The Matrix to launch the club.

Its more than just awkward fixtures, its a case of selling our game short and the RFL needs to crack down on it - like they did last week.
Wigans owners might be willing to sell on, especially if they're more interested in soccer.
Ken Davy deserves the title of Giant for all he's done for his club, but wont be there forever.
MC is a businessman. and has already threatened to quit the city.
Koukash - who knows what he will do? He might really fancy having a SL team in London (or New York?).
Might be some interesting times ahead!!!

Amsterdam Trinity - I could get on board with that

| No chance of Wigan leaving Wigan. They're too big and guaranteed crowds of 14K plus. Why would they take the gamble?

I think the RFL are thinking of a little further afield than Barnsley. If I read the signs, the RFL are content to allow Wakefield to fall on the sword of expansion.

| This is a very possible scenario and one that MC would be obliged to consider as Wakefield Council and the RLF close down options around him.
Darlington FC's crazy owner, who made Ted look like John Lewis, build a new stadium as a vanity project, somehow getting the stadium finished without paying the majority of the bills. Darlington FC failed and the stadium was taken over by the Council, then swapped with Mowden Park RUFC, with a huge cash settlement, in exchange for their massive building plot on the other side of Darlington.
The 25000 seater stadium now holds a few lower league RU games and is dormant through the summer apart from a few "events". It would be a perfect fit for a RL club to play through the summer and only an hour away from Wakefield by car or less by train.

| Much the same as in the Sixties when Brooklyn Dodgers left New York and moved to LA. Difference is that New Yorkers still had two top flight baseball teams left in the city to support, the Knicks and the Yankees. Wakefield Trinityis a proud historic name and should the club move elsewhere it should be retained. However, unless it's to Barnsley, this lifetime supporter won't be going with them.

Which is why I wouldn't necessary be critical of MC if it was a choice of no rugby club in Wakefield and everything closed down or no rugby club in Wakefield and a move elsewhere. It just wouldn't be a club I'd support. I follow Wakefield's rugby league club, not a limited company with a new headquarters elsewhere.

| If we were to be the subject of such a move then its the end of Wakefield Trinity and our historic name and heritage.
No one interested in taking the "franchise" to a new location is going to give a jot about the name and history, it will be a new Club, a new name and will create its own history. Wakefield Trinity will be consigned to the history books.

| It's a good stick to wave at the council as a threat to leave the area, it might help push things along ground-wise. It would never happen though as everyone knows full well that it would in reality be the end of the club for good.
