| Look..when we look at League v Union and the dire spectacle that Yawnion can give us sometimes with their interminable scrums and rucks and mauls, I can see why we conveniently side step the rules of a fair scrum. However, forward passes are now a joke in both codes but League far more than Union. I just watched SL show highlights of Salford Koukash Tarts vs Hull. The forward passes were hilarious. But it is most games to be fair. I feel we need to revisit Newton's laws of Physics. I'm pretty sure it takes quite a lot of force and acceleration to overcome the laws of gravity and momentum to make a ball travel 2 metres forwards, when delivered by a man running at 15 mph and only 5 metres from the receiver...Sorry Stevo..this momentum boll*8s is Boll**s. Lets make it easy..forwards is forwards and no matter the alleged position of your hands or your alleged momentum, if the ball goes forwards it is a forward pass..makes it the responsibility of the ball carrier to MAKE SURE THE BALL GOES BACKWARDS, which is Rule no1 of Rugby Football for god's sake!

| and I thought it was only me that was fed up to the back teeth of forward (including flat) passes. It has become a joke. At least two tries a game are scored this way and when its on sky it looks even worse with their lets look at that 50 times carry on.

momentum my ars*.
Sod the science behind it - if it looks forward then it is forward. Maguire try 53rd minute absolute shocker - and the idiot ref is running alongside with his stupid head camera proving just how forward it was - ya couldn't make it up !!
Idiot Cummings blathering on as per usual as well.

| Forget the forward passes & just wish we were lucky enough to support a team with such quality, and on that performance, it’s not ending anytime soon .

You are not, it was a fine pass backwards and the fact that the ball does indeed end up in McGuire's hands ahead of where it left Watkins hands, in relation the field of play, does not make it a forward pass. Unfortunately, all it proves is that some fans know neither the laws of the game... or the laws of physics!

So to qualify this, player A passes the ball clearly backwards by 2 foot towards player B, the ball takes a wicked bounce then bobbles forward 4 foot clearly in front of player B, this then isn't a forward pass? Ball back a little but then forward a lot?

| After that pass that Owen I think it was took against Leeds at home and scored in the dying minutes' we can't complain really, but like every other club we all prosper and suffer from them, it's such as St Helens who you have to feel sorry for, week in week out they have to suffer the frustration of all them forward passes' not given against the teams' playing them

Sorry IA, I have to disagree. Yes momentum comes into it but I would dispute the initial direction of the pass. It looked like it came out of his hands in a forward direction to me.

No, it really was not. You are another one who firstly needs to read the actual laws of the game, not just base your judgement of what you think the laws says! Secondly, once you have read the laws, you need to have a basic grasp of the law of physics to understand why it is entirely possible to throw the ball backwards, as Watkins did, and it still be caught (relative to the field of play) in front of the where the ball left Watkins hands and it NOT be a forward pass. That is why the laws of the game are clear and state forward passes are NOT judged relative to the field of play... until you grasp this basic concept then you will never understand why you are wrong and, in this case, the officials were correct!

Sorry Fordy, watch Watkins hands (as he passes the ball clearly backwards) and also McGuires position relative to Watkins as the pass leaves his hands, McGuire is a good meter behind him at that moment Secondly, watch were Watkins is when McGuire catches the ball, he is still in front of McGuire even though he is slowing down. It is those three things ref's are trained to look at to judge forward passes, not easy and they sometimes get it wrong both ways, but this was not a forward pass. Sorry!

Correct. Another reason, along with momentum, the laws stipulate that forward passes are not judged relative to the field of play.
Interestingly, everyone is talking about this try coming from a forward pass, which it didn't, however, nobody is talking about the try that should have been chalked off, when Hall passed off the floor!!!!

This. Everything said about the ball coming out of the hands backwards and the laws of physics etc is correct but don't count in this case Watkins passed the ball forward, end of! There was no passing of the ball backwards so the point is irrelevlent, it was a simple forward pass missed by ever more incompetent officials. Where McGuire and Watkins are at certain points are irrelevent for the exact same laws of physics that IA was arguing about. still, just another Leeds fan trying to justify the injustifiable! And Yes Halls try shouldn't have stood either. Still it was good for us as Hull will be battling with ourselves down with the dead men as the season goes on, Leeds won't be.

| Wow all this laws of physics talk, a simple league game begining to sound like a game of union, maybe we should go back to union type scrums then we could all have a big argument because league scrums are just as big a joke, whats the point of 12 players making a scrum just so another player can put the ball at his own players feet to re-start the game, and when the game is near the end and players rush in to form a scrum to stop the clock, yes our game is perfect isnt it.

Got to agree with you there, Briggy...League scrums are a complete waste of time (although Union scrums - which can take several minutes !!! - are an even bigger waste of time ).
We should either set scrums as they used to be in the good old days, or do away with them completely and just restart with a tap to the other side when both teams are ready.
