| I've liked all the signings we've made so far, they all look like they'll make us a stronger team but this one would be a bit disapointing and pointess tbh. Looks no better than Harry for me. Doesn't have a kicking game, runs across the pitch aimlessly and imo just doesn't look SL quality. I'd also imagine he'd be after a decent contract.
If he comes I hope I'm made to look stupid.

| If it's a choice between McDonnell and Miller, it would be McDonnell every time, very good FB, just got injured at the wrong time for Hull and Shaul doing really well meant it was pointless keeping a very highly paid player not in the 17. I would do a really good medical on him though.
Shifty Cats description of Miller is spot on IMO.

| I will believe it only when it is official because I struggle to understand what he could add to the team. I guess it boils down to Sammut or Miller therefore if you owned a Super
League club which would you want to sign ?

I agree, played well of Smith. As other have said would much rather have a centre/full-back. I'd back the lad if he does come and not write him off until he has a good chance.

| If it's true, Sammut at full back, Hall to centre and Lyne out to the wing. A massive pack and plenty of skill from 1-7. Quite exciting if you ask me.

| Sammutt at Full Back is a non-starter for me. Look how easily he got swatted off by Carney in the Cas game at home. It was like Carney was being irritated by a fly and he didn't need to break stride to score. Sammutt may be dangerous when returning kicks or joining the line but defensively he is lightweight. I would rather see. Max Jowitt at fullback but the best option is Hall with Jowitt coming in for selected games.

| Lets be fair the Gerry Round, the best full back ever to wear the Trinity shirt would have all on to stop Carney when he is in full flight.
Sammut is a quality RL player I hope we are planning on playing him at 6 as he and Smith seem to me to have styles of play that will complement each other. I am not convinced that Pita is a 6, I think he is style of play, his strengths, make him well suited to playing the modern style hooker role.

I agree that Pita is a great hooker. The problem to me is that we then have one of our best players on the bench for half the game.
I like him at half back with Smith as they compliment each other too especially in defence.

Gerry Round would have taken Carney round the legs unlike today when people try to tackle his flabby gut.

| Don't think we should sign Miller...nothing against the guy, but IMO he has always underwhelmed at Hull, hence the reason he went on dual reg to Donny. As others have said, we need another centre or full back please.

| Bang on Brian Briggs Ghost, one of my main concerns with our game is just how poor, in general , defence has become. You see so many poor tackle attempts these days that is 100 % down to players not tackling round the legs. It the fault of coaches at all levels insisting that youngsters are coached not to tackle round the legs. Two exceptions, watch Rob Burrow and Danny Brough who are brilliant one on one defenders who tackle round the legs. Now when you watch RU it is obvious that they are now the game with the better defenders. Its all down to the coaching.

| Pure speculation but what if Tim Smith has told the club he is returning to Australia next season (hence the 1 year deal) and Miller is to be given a 3 year deal to understudy Tim this season and be a long term replacement after that.

A possibility I must admit, but realistically we don't have the time or money to be able to afford understudy's ...we have to hit the ground running this season or we are doomed....doomed I tell ya....doomed

I wouldn't look at Sammutt at fullback, but, in the early/mid season Carney was swatting most defenders off, later on in the season teams got him Sussed, put two defenders on him and he was very average.

Players are taught to take around the legs, from behind, from either side and from the front with both passive and aggressive techniques. They are also taught to tackle as a defensive unit working with far more sophistication than defences of old. Attacking and covering the ball carrying arm is predominantly the way the 1st defender is coached in the game today and it's taught that way through necessity. Offloads would kill a defensive team who's first man in went low every time, they'd get carved to ribbons.
Rugby Unions defences are 15 years behind Rugby League, they do not have the better defenders but they can still get away with leg tackles in Union so they're not exposed as they would be in Rugby League.

That just isn't true. The techniques and impact in the tackle are completely different for a start.
You very rarely get a forward running at another forward from further than 3 steps so you can't compare that to a full on charge from a front rower.
Equally the fact that there is 2 extra players on the field gives less space
The players playing rugby Union are mostly just as capable as their rugby league counterparts, apart from the fact that they have been taught to play a different game.
Having played both codes in all three front row positions, I can tell you that apart from catching the ball, there are no other shared skills in those positions. What you do in the tackle is different because of the rules of the game.
