I dont agree with Wildie being dropped but at the end of the day he needs to put a team that will stay up. Some of our youngters have had chances and more will get chances.

Seijka better than Wildie at hooker? At a guess no. Kienhorst better than Walshaw, nope.
Fitting Siejka in is likely to unsettle the developung combo between Sammut and Godinet.
He ignored kids when relegation wasn't a factor.

0 club trained, 8 overseas and 2 loanees.
Have to feel for Wildie. It is no coincidence that McShane has been at his best in the last 2 games whilst Matty has been on the bench. What has he done wrong to get dropped? Or Siejka done to justify a spot ahead of him? Siejka is a halfback first, second and third. One of him or Sykes on the bench means either McShane playing 80, playing a player out of position or messing around with the halfbacks to put Godinet there. Makes no sense. Sorry but i am quite annoyed at this move.

| Whether it proves to be the correct decision or not Sjeka was always going to be in th 17 sooner rather than later. You don't fly someone half way round the world after 3 visa appeals to then not have them in the team. Agar must believe he offers something and only time will tell if he is right or wrong.
I do not see why Sjeka cannot play as replacement Hooker, the skills of a half back and hooker are fairly interchangeable. Lets see if he plays on Sunday and if so how he goes.
Of the 19 man squad selected, I would expect Sykes and Kleinhorst/Lynne to miss out.

| 5 games in and people expect youngsters to be playing, we're not Wigan or Leeds and even they only play youngsters when injuries come in. Agar knows what he's doing because if he wasn't he wouldent of had the job, give him a break........

| I dont care where the players are from, whether they are on loan or who's academy they have come through so long as they go out and perform.
Agar obviously believes that the 19 he has picked are the best players to beat Saints on Sunday and that is fine by me.

A) This season isn't the time to develop youth.
B) When featuring last season, most youth players did not show enough to warrant getting in the 19-man squad for games like this against top of the table teams. Personally, I support the idea of picking our strongest team with what's available and unfortunately I don't think that includes our homegrown players. The players we bring through the academy need to be of a better standard before they play Super League games. You cannot just throw any old youth player into the squad simply because they are one of your own.

Who care I mean seriously Chelsea have won how many titles with just a smattering of home grown players - this really is becoming an obsession.
Truth is I really don't care, WTRLFC is not tasked with employing locals - it's not a charity it's a business tasked with winning trophies - why do you feel there is an obligation there?
Sure it would be nice and in the long term cost effective but if we challenge for top 8 this season I will say again - I don't care.
Sorry mate I know you feel passionate about it but in the age of P&R it's a red herring IMHO.

| Well although I'm happy to pick the best team, to answer the question, the reason youth dev is important to the business is that future players are better and cheaper with a good youth development.
Very important just not every game at all costs

| If that's the best 19 for the job fair enough but the team has had a bit of cohesion the last couple of games.
Sometimes you have to build on that rather than the best players available.
Players can only become better by playing and having that pressure of being dropped for not performing, not just because a player is back from injury/fit.
Does nothing for a 'fight for your place' culture.

| I'm no Agar apologist, however as others have said already we simply have to avoid relegation at all costs this year. It's also becoming pretty obvious to everyone that in most cases, especially on our budget, youngsters from down under are better than ours! If we go down I don't see a second chance.

| Actually to be fair you are probably all correct, survival is all that matters and given the NRL is a significantly higher quality competition anything antipodean is bound to be better than what we have. And Leeds' loanees are miles ahead of our own. Guess we have to survive relegation at all costs and the same will apply whilstever P&R exists. So same again next season, and the season after etc. Well done to the RFL and the clubs.

Indeed. Is there any point in developing kids? If not is there any point in club1873 . The juniors will never be as good as imports or experienced campaigners if they rarely get a chance.
I guess its all part of the RFL's policy of contracting the game.

| To me, questions need to be asked as to why we aren't producing players capable of making the step up. They should be developing a lot better during their younger years in the academy, instead of us throwing them into the Super League in the hope that they improve drastically with super league experience. A lot of youngsters that go onto be good Super League players it's already obvious they have the talent at the ages 21-22 and then it's all about breaking them in slowly. Obviously there are exceptions.

With the politest possible respect, I'm not sure how the number of homegrown players in any given squad is the rfls fault? They still require 7/25 to be homegrown ...
By contrast, saints have 11 out of the 19 who are home grown ...

Insightful as ever.
Sorry but thats my opinion on the subject. If i ever see our own given an even chance then i'll consider joining back up. But whilst we drop a player like Wildie (and yes he is fit btw) who has done a good job in the last two games to pick an aussie out of position (with just 4 first grade games experience 2 years ago) then i'll say again, whats the point? It will keep happening thanks to the backwards thinking of getting shut of licensing. A policy our own club voted for. May as well spend the brass on beer on the ground and help pay for the next loan player. Yes i'm pretty pished off about it.

If Agar played homegrown and they got ripped to shreds you woulden't of been happy either. Wildie will play this year he has already played..

| On the Wildie issue, we have Mcshane, Godinet and Sammut who can all cover nine do we really need another on the bench?
Siejka maybe showing enough to force himself on the bench but to play him then means switching one of Godinet or Sammut about, that might prove either counter productive or a waste of a sub?
On the squad in general for this game I think we need more forwards on the bench than a spare back so I'd see them both missing out (Wildie and Siejka) anyway.
On the youth development it isn't the season to worry about it.
If or when we are in a less perilous state maybe then we might see more opportunities, but there are better options at the moment IMO and as Vasty says it's becoming something of a red herring. There's plenty of youth development they might not necessarily be ours though but equally ours end up somewhere else??
