You need to consider what you are posting pal your post on the Salford board and comments are tantamount to admitting that Salford are tapping players up.
You maybe right of course and salford may have approached Wakey to speak to Smith I guess time will tell.

Yes you need to be very careful, Tim is a contracted player and I would have hoped Salford have gone through the correct channels if this is true.

| T smith is a player we simply cannot afford to lose on the eve of the most important season for ages.
I hope this is either rubbish or that he stays and Salford are fined for tapping up a contracted player.
If it transpires that the club have agreed to sell him, then I hope the fee is decent and they have a bloody good replacement lined up

| They have done exactly the same with Chase at Cas Tigers. He is still contracted to WTW as Chase is to CT. Salford dangle the carrot and we then have to work-out if the offer is too good to turn down. Do we sell or take to benjamins?
What surprises me is how Salford have been allowed to ride a coach and horses straight through the protocol clubs have to go through when signing players. They have no morals whatsoever and the way they go about recruitment is having a detrimental effect on opposing supporters. They are certainly not winning any fans over from other clubs and the annimosity the Chase saga has caused at CT is unbelievable.

| If Tim goes then it says it all, AG told us when he took over that in three years we would be up to the max salary cap, hope its not true, but if it is we can kiss good by to a bright future at Wakefield, just the same selling then struggle, please let it not be true, if true selling season tickets will be hard to sell.

| Salford wont be near their cap at all. As of the end of the year nearly all the current squad, barring a few already signed-on and some young lads, will not be there next season. They are effectively starting from scratch on the cap front.

I'd be inclined to believe you on this score. The Salford poster who came out with this one has suddenly appeared out of nowhere and been stirring stuff on the Salford board. He may be correct and that's fine, but he just seems to want to rub people up the wrong way.

| They would be up to the cap.
The cap is a fixed amount for all clubs that they can spend up to for the top 25 players in that squad, and it is the same figure for every club.
The way that some teams get round it is if you have a player who gets into the England knights train on squad, and was part of your academy set up, then the club whos academy that player was in, will get a certain amounted funded to their salary cap.
Unfortunately, if you are a spending club, rather than a club who develops their own pool of talent, you will get to the cap a lot quicker.
There are other ways too, I think to do with your top 25 earners, and if one of these were in your academy set up
(so Leeds with the likes of Burrow, McGuire and probably Watkins would probably get some of their cap credited back)

| As of several months ago, my eyes glaze over whenever I see a story that contains the words 'Salford' and 'signing' - they've been linked to just about every player in SL since Koukash starting waving his magic cheque book around and quite frankly, it's become boring.
If they are talking to Smith, I hope they went through the proper channels; if they didn't, I hope we take them to the cleaners. If they did and he goes, I also hope we take them to the cleaners. Koukash' behaviour has been reminiscent of a bloke walking into a car showroom and announcing that he has 20 grand to spend on a car - everyone club sees him coming and adds 25% to the value of their players.

| Seriously doubt that there is anything in this but if there is we would be stupid to sell at any price given whats coming next year. It would send a message out to the fans that we are back to being a feeder club which would hit ticket sales massively and probably result in our relegation next year as there just aren't any quality replacements available. He is our most creative player by a country mile and must be kept.

Not a chance.
Most of the players signed for next season are young academy lads. Most of the current squad will not be there next season. Salford are starting with a practically blank sheet. They will have added some on with the announced signings, but will be nowhere near full with their cap.

Besides, MK has gone on record saying he's going to exceed the cap, just like all the big clubs apparently. Whether Salford are close to it or not is irrelevant.
As for Tim Smith, wasn't he at Wigan with Noble when Tomkins usurped his position in the first 17? That could still play on his mind, although money talks.

Lets forget about the cap issues, what about the non fed trained issues. Its really hard to keep up with whats going on with your club so can you tell us how many non fed trained players you have signed or are about to sign.

Non Fed:
S'au confirmed signed.
Puletua practically confirmed signed.
Not Sure:
Chase - strongly rumoured. I assume he's non-Fed
McPherson - not sure. He was one of the players given dispensation when Crusaders folded.
Exempt:
Meli classed as Fed due to the time over here.
McGoldrick, if staying, would be classed as Fed due to the time over here.
It's possible I've forgotten someone.

| Just to confirm, under Dr Koukash we have dealt with every transfer (thus far) with the upmost respect. Tim Smith is a player who Brian Noble rates highly, he worked with him at Wigan and he identified him as a target for 2014. I was under the impression it was either/or with Chase and Smith, which would mean Smith would stay where he is.
It would be a pleasant suprise if we were to get both, however I would Smith would set the Dr back at least a £100k.

You appear to have mistaken us for the RFL disciplinary committee; that sounds like a statement for the defence!
Out of interest - how do you know that to be the case?

I was under the impression that McPhearson continues to get dispensation for the duration of his current contract. If he was to sign another contract he would then become Non-fed trained. I think his contract is up at the end of next season.

He signed a new deal earlier this year which will have nullified his exemption I would of thought.

In that case, if I'm right with my assumption, he'd count as non-fed and quota.

| In my opinion, Tim Smith is one of if not the best scrum half in the league.
Certainly the best at what he does.
Of course other teams want him. That's why he is under contract with us.
He could have got more money in Oz, even playing for a lower level team but he decided to come here to give his career a chance and a boost.
I think he has succeeded in doing that.
So, I can't see him just jumping for money.
Saying that....everybody has a price, but if he has, we need a fee that will represent his value to us, not his value to Salford.
I would want enough money to be able to go buy Danny Brough or Rob Burrow, not just enough to pay some wages, but enough to buy out contracts.
So in my opinion, MK doesn't have that money....and if he does, he might as well just go buy Danny Brough.
