Sign the youngsters, treat them right (educate them, give them quality accommodation and cars- doesn't have to be expensive, just organised and fair!), pay the best wages and nurture these diamonds into SL jewels- is that such a outlandish theory???

Not if you want to see 15 year-olds driving around in cars and living away from home.

Sit them down for half an hour with Gareth Ellis, and teach them that what you make out of life is done with hard graft and determination. That's a lesson worth learning.

Well obviously once they're of legal age to drive/live away.
But 17+ I think it's the way to go. We have players living together already- from speaking to Johnson recently it really bonds them as a group. We need to show that same level of professionalism and care to our young lads, clearly showing a "pathway" to the first 19.
Cas rant an rave about their "production line" but in terms of SL "stars" it sits comfortably in our shadow, what they do well however is show that clear pathway, where as we a) ship them out b) fill the team with out of date/over weight foreign second graders. This needs to change. We have the u20's sorted, we just need a coach who will blood them.

Gareth Ellis might be a bit preoccupied at the minute, although we might be seeing a lot more of another prodigal son (who could have gone further IMO- if it were not for jumping ship/injuries).

Great news about Annekin. The lad has real potential and I believe he will become a first team regular whatever league we are in next year.

I'm really pleased we've signed him and now we need to push him into the SL team where the demands will force him to realise his potential.

I really rate him, but I worry about his physical gifts for SL level.

This signing to me looks like it could be a potentially "preparing for the drop" signing, as I am sure he is another player you can build a top NL1 team around and are perhaps planning to do. Genuinely hope I am wrong though.

Well we'll never know whether his physical size will work against him or whether he's Paul Gallan in disguise until we drag the last drop of potential out of him. IMO we won't do that by denying him a place in the SL run on team for much longer, if we're not careful his time will come and go and he'll be forever playing catch up in terms of where he ought to be.

I agree with what you are saying but I think he may be a bit small to play loose forward and would be better suited to playing hooker. I may well be proved wrong and I hope I am because he has all the skills to become a verg good ball handling loose forward.

Been saying that for a couple of years, would have loved to see him make the switch a couple of years ago, could have been a similar style player to Newton, think it is a bit late for the switch now.

He's injured and whether he plays again this season depends on the results of a scan.

I don't think it is too late but I think team needs will determine where he will play. If we need a loose forward he could play there and if we are short of a hooker he could play there. I guess time will tell.

With the current philosophy of the conditioning staff at all levels at the club he will never be a paul gallon. Speaking to a few of the younger lads they are wanting out because of this.

Maybe when the technical coaching staff change this will too hopefully.
