| I spoke to a bloke in town to day who is a long time Wakefield fan. He is very knowledgeable and I value his opinion. He has seen some good and some dross over the years. He was quite sure in saying he thought Sunday's performance was the best he has seen a Trinity side play. Now that's a big call.
On the Man of the Match thread on this forum someone has posted that Danny Brough's performance was the "best from a Trinity halfback in 20 years". Now I am not rubbishing these two comments at all but it has set me thinking was this the best performance ever. I think the side we saw in a Trinity shirt on Sun playing at that level would have beaten any Trinity side I have watched since I was a lad in the late 70's.

He may well be right and its all down to opinions, trouble is memories fade.
For me the best performance was at Headingley V Saints in the semi a few years back but like i said memories can play tricks.
Most enjoyable game at Hull in the play offs.
I'm sure you'll get some interesting replies.

Got to agree, I think the achievement of beating Leeds down here was fantastic. But for me the emotion of it has slightly clouded the thinking of some. As good as it was I saw plenty of better games last season alone, as you say the wire game, Saints away for another, and didnt we both along with others savour the win in France Too many choices really.

| As a relative youngster (in terms of Trinity follower ) there are a few, and Sunday's game being so fresh still can get in the way.
However, having been beaten in the last zillionth of a second here against Leeds last year, and then go to Saints and win was a MONUMENTAL achievement, Wellens boot notwithstanding (or kicking ).
Also Bradford at home, D. March scoring on Good Thursday. Priceless.

| To compare last sundays stunning win against Leeds to the game against Warrington away last season is imo is a no match, We played warrington one week before the challenge cup final, and personally i think they had one eye on that. However Leeds after a thumping at home by our friends from cas where desperate to get there wheels back on track and where totaly out played by a better team. Probably our best performance in superleague.

Most enjoyable? I have to admit to having enjoyed sending Fev down when a combination of other results had to go against them. I'd guess it was c1989.
As for best, rather than pick an individual game, I'd like to nominate parts of the 2004 season. Although at times the skills and fluidity have been bettered, there was a period of games at the back end of the season when you almost knew that we would kick on stronger than the opposition and seal the win in the second half. That kind of confidence in our all round team performance, as a solid unit over a full 80 minutes and with enough attacking options to win games consistently, is something I've not often felt as a Wakey fan. Interestingly, just checking stats on that season, only one home game topped 7,000 attendance.
In comparing Wakey teams in the period I've been watching since the late 80s, I don't think there should be must doubt that the best performances should be found more recently. The overall squads are simply stronger in recent years.
I did actually think about the Warrington game last year, but I think we gave too much away. With a winger who could catch they could have scored nearly 40.

Or alternatively a game versus a Wire team of players desperate to book a final starting place on the back of a great run of form under a new, top class coach against a game versus a team who struggled to impress against a team who had been together for 5 days followed by another loss - clearly way off form.
Aren't opinions great!!! I rate the Warrington away as a better performance than Sunday btw.

| for me it was a game against Hull at home in about 1989...
Brian Smiths Hull were unbeaten and playing excellent RL... Dave Topliss' team took them apart in the first half and solidified in the second... Smith himself said it was one of the best performances he had ever seen from an opposing team...
also loved the cup semi in 79...
and the video of the wigan 1963 cup win is quite special...

| For team performance for me it's Bradford away in 2006, the 20-12 game, im sure you all remember it. Nearly all second half we were resorting to a desperate last line of defense. The 18 nil game at Cas came pretty close, as did the first game at Wigan last season, considering all our injuries. The Leeds away win on Easter Monday 2005 is worth a mention, I remember the bookies had Leeds at 1/100 on to win that game!

Yes that was one hell of a win when we were on the edge of the abyss as was the Bradford game that set up the Cas decider.

| It's all down to how it makes you feel! Have we played better footy? Yes! Have we faced greater adversity? Yes! Did I feel on top of the world coming out of the ground, reliving (loudly) every aspect of the game, surrounded my miserable loiners? Oh yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's up there!!!!!!

| Depends what we are saying.
Best performance in terms of skills?....no way is the Leeds game the best. It was more a grind out win, with errors on both sides making a difference with some good skills along the way.
Best for atmosphere or importance?......I can understand if you haven't watched Wakefield for long.... and it is obviously more contentious just because it's a personal thing.... but I'd have to pick any of:
St.s semi in 1979,
Wally's first game against Hull,
Whitehaven away when we won the 1st Div title (you'll know if you were there)
Henry Paul's game against Wigan away,
First game (think it was Warrington) when Mark Graham and Steve Ella played...that would figure high on skills too.
Hull in the play-offs
Beating St.s at Barnsley, or Bradford, Cas and Cas again when Cas went down
saying all that......it's always great to beat Leeds!

| The Henry Paul Wigan game has got to be up there.
Away at Central Park against the team that had dominated the sport for the previous however long.
Am i right in thinking they hadnt been beaten at home for a few years as well?

| the one for me was when we came from 18 points behind after 60 minutes against leeds and won the game by 2 points. final score was 22 - 20. this was in the days of when players like scholdfield and hanley was playing for leeds. when i left the ground i felt like i was walking on air.

| In terms of enjoyment, the Bradford away game was the best as i went fully expecting Wakey to be relegated that night for us to stay down for a while due to all the comments about the ground.
Re the wire game it was a good win, but they did have one eye on the cup final and a very dodgy winger. Beating Leeds was a far better achievement for me, the game was a higher standard and i was particularly impressed with the 10-15 minutes in the second half when Leeds started really going for it (the shot on tronc etc).....the pack really stood up to it....for me it was the best performance i can remember.

| My memories dont stretch as far back as some, however the games that stand out for me as far as complete performances go (in chronological order) are....
Hull FC, away, play off match, 2004
Cas 'home', millenium stadium, 2008
Leeds, home, 2010
Out of those 3, it has to be the leeds game. The euphoria has now elapsed and we have to look and say that we defended well, we attacked well, we turned pressure into points, we were disciplined and what impressed me most was in the second half when leeds were turning the screw we went into build mode, we started knocking the sets out, 5 drives and a kick to establish field position and get outselves back into the game, whereas in the past we would have capitulated and let leeds, or any side with such momentum, roll over us and beat us. Up untill last season (leeds home) we were doing that but, dare i say it, we seem to have turned the corner - our performance was that of an established and smart team.

and the thing I like most about this thread? The fact that I honestly believe we'll be talking about this again this season. The fact that we are now much better at doing the underlined bit above means we are likely to closing out more of these games we used to lose.

| For pure elation it has to be ’79 semi for me, but, we only just held on that day.
As a performance, Sundays win was very satisfying, especially against a very good side, who came into the match with such en enviable record to uphold.
Even though I, along with most fans, were still a bit twitchy after Donald scored his second (How did he manage to score?) in reality, we looked in total control.

| Agree with the games that Pop Tart has mentioned and there will be others in the dark recesses of my mind. But what about the 'promotion' game at Huddersfield against Featherstone, the knock on, Franny's try (dynasaur), Garen Casey's conversion. My nerves were shot and I don't think I've recovered yet.
