| I'm gonna balance the books here by saying that I thought we played reasonably well, just not well enough to win.
Several game changing incidents today - ALL went against us:
First Hudds try - appeared to lose the ball over the line
Second Hudds try - played on repeat set that should never have been
First Grix break - does the right thing by kicking, 2 Wakey players on the charge, ball takes a wkd bounce right into Hudds hands
Peto dives in at the corner - could be a try; could be a drop out, but somehow it ends as a 20m restart.
Second Grix break - superb efforts bt Gleeson and Grix, decent effort from Grix inside to Brough & Latu (both unmarked) and Brough reaches out and knocks on.
Hudds kick late in second half, looks to go dead, wkd bounce, Peto has to knock out of play - Hudds score on re-start. (I think)
I know we had some sloppy defence for 3 tries, but I still reckon on another day we would have won that game!
I reckon Hudds just about deserved the win, but they needed some luck to actually achieve it!
And I agree with Kear - we can win games if we can keep that level going.

While I do think we weren't far off winning today as I've said on another thread if we are going to have this game plan of grinding teams down we need to do the basics right and that means, amongst other things, stopping soft tries from dummy half.

| I'm with TRB on this one. Had the ball not bounced back over Obst, we would have been in front and then it's a whole different game. Think Peterson should have gone to catch the ball, not allow it to bounce.
I wonder if Bentham ruled that Peterson had knocked it on when try ruled out (ie, bounced it when trying to ground it), as that would explain the restart.
One thing we should do is take tactical kicking away from Martin. He is too slow and rarely effectual.
Overall, I think we did okay and a bit of bad luck (and a bloke in orange) cost us the game

| From a Hudds perspective, we blew enough chances in the first half to win the game by halftime.
The first Wakey try would be an interesting one on the reply as I think the Hudds defender got under the ball
I was sure he was going to give the Peto try, but TJ, In Goal and ref said no so go figure.
Robinson attempted 40/20, fielded by wakey winger, foot in touch, completely ignored by the touch judge.
Sam Obst is a dirty little fecker.

I wish!
Nah - you deserved it - just, but I haven't seen a game where the bounce of the ball was so one-sided for quite some time.
I'm not unhappy at all, just a little disappointed in the result. We can see that there are some weaknesses out there, but we also know that the club know them and hence we will see some new faces next season!
In the meantime, those guys didn't leave much behind today - they gave it their all but came up short against a side who have just gone 3rd. Give 'em a break!!!!!!!!!!

| As I put on another thread I thought we played well overall (especially the pack) and with a bit more composure at times, or maybe a bit more luck at times we could have easily come away with the two points.
The final scoreline did flatter them IMO, it was a lot closer game than that.
We definitely played a lot better today than against Harlequins, but obviously to some people they can only judge a performance on whether we win the game or not.
I agree with Kear that we will win more than we lose to the end of the season if we play to that level and iron a couple of little things out.

| mid way through the second half we had two minutes that summed up being a fan of wtrlfc.....great break diwn right, good hands, grix beats winger but full back covering, good kick 2 players in support, ball evades both, knock on.scrum shudds.
5 tackles later repeat set, and 3rd tackle ( i think) hooker dives over aginst poor marker defense at play the ball.
the yay booooooooooooo effect of being one of our fans!

| Did not think we played too badly. When we pulled back to 12-10 I thought we looked the better side and would go on and win but again not for the first time our line defence let us down and we are 18-10 down and Huddersfield are back in the ascendancy.
We lost today because our line defence was dreadful - 3 soft tries and not getting the bounce of the ball. Any other day we could get the bounce and have won - its that tight in Super League.
No moans from me about Bentham, some wierd decisions but overall probably balanced. Credit to Huddersfield they just about deserved it on the day but on another day who knows.
We definitely need a Stand Off though. No problem with Rooney's loan as I don't believe he is the answer and I doubt if he will be with us next year. Whether Obst or Drew play there remains to be seen but we need one for next year as a priority.

| When you look at it there were several key points in the game where it could have gone either way - Petersens disallowed try, Broughs kicking game could all have stuck the balance in your favour.
Brough had a stinker with his boot for most of the game, although his goalline drop out almost ended in with you lot!

Agreed. For whatever reason we didn't capitalise on our opportunities and Huddersfield took their chances. Huddersfield in my opinion were the better side and looked very sharp in attack. They too play with a simple game plan but work far better as a team.
As you say Brough didn't have his best game with the boot and that certainly didn't help us. But i'm sure he'll be back to his best next week

| dont post often but i am tired of the rose tinted views on this performance. the only excuse i can offer is that it was hot out there, but it was hot for both sides
i dont think we played well and dont tink we have played well since we beat castleford away
i dont think we were embarrassed by the score, i think it was a reflection of the difference between the teams even though the scores came late
we do not have a game plan, or if we do it eithewr not good enough, the wrong one, or we arent playing to it. if i was a winger or a centre, i wouldnt bother pulling the shirt on because the ball hardly goes directly there along the line
the line often looks ragged, which is probably one of the reasons why we always seem to go down the middle, because the players arent in position to receive it
in many ways rugby league is a simple game, with some simple basics
we dont play the balll from acting half quick enough
we dont close down attackers quick enough, we wait till they come to us, not smothering them and putting them under pressure
we appear clueless near the line
our body language is not good. when the players came out for the second half they conveyed to me that they had had a roasting and were not happy (demetriou/brough). they also looked like they had just come off after the first half not had a 10 min rest
on the occasions when we had a scrum why didnt we pack dsowjn and get the clock stopped instead of letting the clock run down
we have no offload game and if we had we have no backing up to receive it
why are we still allowing other teams to offload in the tackle yet never seem able to do this ourselves
if forwards are going to run with the ball why arent they coming onto it at speed instead of mostly a standing start
we concede two many tries from acting half on our line. this happens time and time again - not acceptable. how many teams let us score from similar positions. we have got to learn to defend this
we throw out too many hospital passes, our tackling is poor from markers at play the ball. most teams nail us in that position
what has happened to the little grubber kicks through the back of opposing teams defence that were so effective earlier in the season.
although it is not my favourite play, it did yeild results for us and it seems the only scoring option for us as we are clueless othewrwise, except for the now in vogue miss out the centre, which is working to a degree but teams will soon suss out
the team and coach should watch the video a few times and see which team was most enthusiastic
huddersfield in my opinion , werent particularly playing their best but they out enthused us
i like john kear, he seems a nice guy, but we dont seem to be be making any progress, learning any lessons, whereas Huddersfield are. maybe its time for a change

Read the first line and couldn't be bothered reading the rest of the thread, you are either the eternal optomist or need to go to specsavers, that performance today was garbage, Hudds were barely the better of two very poor teams and a decent side would have won by 50 against either. The thing that concerns me the most about that performance is that JK thinks it will win us more than we'll lose considering the run in we've got and people need to take a dose of reality, we've only beaten teams in poor form all season, can't make my mind up whether we play five drives and a kick because Kear realises that the players aren't good enough to play anything more expansive or the players are so poor because of the limited game plan, it's probably a bit of both but either way the coaching staff need to get it sorted soon because it will lose us plenty of games and more than plenty of fans it's that boring.
