Greg Bird has been sentenced to 8 months in jail, he is currently out on bail pending an appeal.

As for Bird, once he's served his sentence I have no problem with him resuming his playing career.

Exactly, do the crime be prepared to do the time. Once they have been punished then that is the end of it whether you or me thinks the punishment fits the crime is another matter but that is completely out of our hands and we must accept the judges decision. If Bird gets another contract with Les Cats fair do's at the end of the day the man has to earn a living, I've got a friend in prison and I wouldn't want him coming out with no options available for him.

Agree with the bottom though, god knows why he only gets min of 8 months. He can still appeal against it though

I'm not going to get into any argument but I personally think it was a cowardly act and I think he has got of very lightly,
there is nothing that can excuse anybody doing that kind of violence especially to a female,

I do have a problem with him coming straight back to the game, as he is supposed to be a role model to all youngsters coming through the ranks, I hope the relevant authorities seek that he pays some kind of ban no different to what has happened over here,

one thing tho you can't have one player being penalized and another not for very similar circumstances, its time they looked upon acts like these and enforce a compulsory minimum ban, they do when using drugs /steroids

Because that's what the judge, who heard all the evidence, thought was correct rather than a load of people on message boards unware of the full facts of the case? Sod the justice system, leave it to the internet judges!

Come on, sports stars or people in the public eye always seem to get let off.....

Do they? Or has Greg Bird's case been sensationalised because he's a 'sports star' leading to the same old message board judges jumping to conclusions.

As for this 'role model' stuff, he's a rugby league player, he's not perfect. Like anyone he makes mistakes, this appears to be a serious one (again, not knowing the full facts), so how can it be legal that having been punished by society for his crime, he should then be punished by being unable to continue his career?
