| Does anyone know the situation with Wakefield RFC? in any capacity do they function anymore? I know wakefield FC are playing at college grove now, but does WRFC still exist.
I'm sure the Trust will have looked at the option of talking to other sporting bodies in our city, but was thinking, how much of a hole in the budget of a new 12000 capacity ground would there be IF we had two grounds to sell?
So here's what i was thinking.
BV- Worth around 7 million
CG- worth around the same. smaller area, better located, and in a much nicer area. perfect for housing development.
Thats 14 million straight away. With stadium naming rights sold over a long enough time period we could make up any remaining shortfall.
A new ground would give WFC & WRFC the facilities to move for professional grade competition, and would give every team bearing the name of Wakefield the 21st century facilities we so sorely need at a massively discounted rate.
Imagine it; 3 Wakefield teams, all with potentially different sets of fans, sharing a modern stadium, which is used all the year round. Now in theory is that not only a ground share we could all prosper in, but also the essence of a community stadium.
IMO i think thats what could have been hinted at in recent press releases that have come from our camp!

| Wakefield RFC were finished as soon as they were relegated from National League One. There wasn't enough support in the city to keep them afloat, and I can't see why there would be now.
College Grove is the perfect size for Wakefield FC and can't see why they'd move to a stadium out of the city centre and, I imagine, with higher rent involved.
BTW, Wakefield RFC didn't and Wakefield FC don't own College Grove - it's Wakefield Sports Club as far as I'm aware - and there's more than just those two sports that have been played there over the years.

| As you say Wakefield RFC pretty much ended with there relegation to div 2. What was left, pretty much a fourth team, the burglars ended up down at sandal and have merged/been incorporated into the sandal club.
So no joy there, so it's probably gonna be cas if anyone, but you never know, let's just keep hoping!!!

You want an athletics track and associated sand pits/run off areas between the stands and the pitch?

| It was a joke, everybody else was being roped in to a groundshare I just thought they should have a go!!!'
I'm sure if the powers that be thought we could make a decent fist of it ourselves, there wouldn't be that much suggestion of a groundshare but with our gates bring pretty poor, it will always be on the agenda, even if only by the equality lobby!!

Using that reason, it does. Whether it's what anyone else wants is up to them.

Wakefield RFC went bust in 2004, 5 years ago, It is Wakefield.F.C. the Bears that play at College Grove, they would love a bigger ground, but need to get the people of Wakefield to support the club first.

| Giving Wakefield FC access to groundshare with Wakefield Wildcats would probably mean they would have one of the best stadiums in non-league football. They problem is, the stadium would be massively underfilled, as there is only like 100 or less fans that turn up to watch them.

Well then would this not be the perfect chance!
If nothing else if we could offer better facilities at for say the same rent to get them on board we could use the fact that they would be using the stadium and facilities to our own gain no end in the political battle (if there is one)
By saying WFC are onboard we could show for real that the ground is for everyone in Wakefield regardless what shaped ball you play with!
We are the biggest city in Europe not to have a pro football team, with the right launch and marketing in a new 12000 capacity ground the team could (in theory) take off!
With an aspiring football team working with the community trust we would never need another resident rugby league team, SL or Championship.

They need to market themselves them!
With a ground like that they should have aspirations to match it!
Lets face it it won't exactly be a bad place to attract sponsors & fans, which brings money, which can breed success. A formula we're building on.

| Heard on 5live this week, there is a huge possibility that fc Wimbledon could well get into blue square conference at the end of the season, 5 years after being formed, working there way up from the very very bottom of non league football, so why not Wakefield, if there's enough will it goes to show.
Anyone know the way to the San siro!!!! Come on wakey, whatever you play, there's a great stadium for you to play in, with no cas innit!!!

| Where are these people coming from to watch Wakefield FC then? The ones who already go every other Saturday to watch Leeds, Huddersfield, both Sheffield clubs, Barnsley?
Apart from our friend wildycat here, does anyone else go support Ronnie Glavin's men?

I don't but I would think about going to watch them if I had spare time as the stadium would only be a short walk away

I watch Barns when i can and when the good games not in season, but thats exactly it the populace will have to be built up, the stadium will draw some and you build on it.
Since we got into SL how many people have come to check it out that have had little or no experience of RL, with a new stadium people will come to dip their toe. it's just a matter of hooking them, much like us when we move in!

Problems usually only arise if one of the clubs owns the stadium (or a bigger share than the other.) The stadium would be owned by neither club though. As we know it will be owned by the community trust.
So i don't see where any friction could come from.
Both clubs are going to have to work with community trust, a body set up to provide sporting opportunities and facilities to everyone in the district.
By it's very nature i assumed the community trust would have looked for other sporting bodies within our city to share the new facilities in order to push sport in the Merrie city forward into the 21st century, whatever sport you play.
At the end of the day the more people we can get on board with this the more it becomes a reality.
Come on Wakefield FC get on board!!!!

1: Our ground is not comfirmed in any way, in fact it's still behind Cas in that they do have some plans and outline planning. Why are so many people on here suddenly so sure when all the messages from the Trust, the developer and the club are hopefull but nothing like definate. Cas fans have set them selves up for a fall, why do the same?
2: It has everything to do with the Council other than direct funding, where do you get these idead from
3: Yes you are correct about that - Richard Wright and the Cas BOD saw the Stadium/Franchise as a way of exterminating Wakefield as opposition and that mentallity goes right back to the start of SL.
I have no wish to lose Cas or there fans ora guaranteed 4 points a season. However to see them well below us and when it finally dawns on the Cas public to see Wright and his low life mates chased out of town will be a joy.
I can't tell you how dispicable the behaviour of Cas has been to Wakefield and Fev through the years, for a while some of them really felt they were the master race.

Aside from a couple of hundred people rattling around in a shiny new stadium, what is in it for them?
There seemed to be some breakdown in the relationship between the two sides in the Wakefield-Emley days, so I really don't see this as anything other than a non-starter.
Where they can attract passing trade, of sorts, in the city centre, the same cannot be said if they moved out to the new stadium.
