Plans for a quick sale of Engage Super League club Wakefield Trinity Wildcats took a new twist today when one of the prospective owners pulled out of a deal.
Yorkshire businessman Steve Parkin, who made an unsuccessful attempt to take over Leeds United Football Club six years ago, was thought to be in the running to buy the Wildcats once they went into administration.
A hearing to appoint Batley-based insolvency experts O’Hara and Company as administrators was due to take place in court in Leeds this morning and it was hoped to at least agree a sale of the club before Wakefield start the new season at the Millennium Stadium tomorrow.
“We were hopeful that a sale could be agreed today but the interested party’s solicitor contacted our solicitor at quarter to five yesterday to say they weren’t going to proceed,” said O’Hara spokesman Simon Weir.
“We are talking to other interested parties but that person seemed to be in the driving seat. Subject to us being appointed as administrators, we would hope to speak to him to see if we can rekindle his interest.”
Another local businessman, Andrew Glover, has also expressed interest in taking over the Wildcats.
Wakefield applied to go into administration to avoid a winding-up petition brought by HM Revenue and Customs over an unpaid tax bill thought to be in excess of £300,000. That hearing, due in the High Court nine days ago, was adjourned for a fortnight. |

Looks like Parkin is out of the running. I must say that i am disappointed but it looks like it will be Andrew Glover taking over and he will have mine and i am sure the rest of the fans support.

Doesn't the delay just do more public damage to the club though???
And do we have the funds to operate bearing in mind we only have two home games before the end of march and they are salford which is never the biggest crowd and warrington which is on sky?

this has been ongoing since before christmas and i can only assume he was hoping the rfl would show some heart and have a change of mind if the club was to go under,it may again be another bluff in trying to get the nod from the rfl.
lets say in two weeks you will be wound up if their isnt a buyer,this would look bad on the rfl that a club two weeks into the season would drop out of the league,the rfl will do all they can to stop this happening the onething they could do is guarentee the franchise and the sale would then be back on.
my money is still on andrew glover getting the nod after talks with parkin and the rfl fail which would almost certainly mean nl next year. |

| Now I come on here just to wind you lot up most of the time. I can't help it. However this one is not a wind up and am here in good faith.
I honestly believe that Steve Parkin wasn't the right man for the job. He's a businessman and he would be looking at the wildcats as purely a business. Now that's good if investment is what he wants, but if he's in it for what he can get from the club then would he be any better than TR?
Glover seems to be a businessman that also has Wakey at heart. He might not have the ££ of Parkin, but he will do right by the club. He is someone you want leading the team. He's not in it for what he can make personally but what he can make of the Wildcats.
Right that's far too much sensible stuff from me on here. I'll be back to normal on Sunday after we've hammered you at MM  |

Thats what ive been thinking too, i just wish the deal could have been done today. The club and the fans need someone with a good head for buisness but someone who also has the interest of the fans at heart too. For too long has the club been run as a hobby and look where thats left them now.

Perhaps the hard nosed buisnessman that is Mr Parkin is hoping to get us at a better price?
Milan Mandaric did the same with Sheffield Wednesday not too long ago......before buying he pulled out at the last minute....only to come back and purchase the club days/weeks later.
I urge everybody who is going to Cardiff to get behind the boys.....they really need our support on the field.
Let's leave the off-the-field stuff to the Glover/window/Parkin/haulage/Richardson/M&S experts to deal with.
