After only 1 game it’s way too early for me to decide if Atoni is one we should keep beyond this season.
A few more performances like vs saints and some consistency at SL level would go a long way to convincing me though.
I'm the same with Atoni. Unfortunately he was poor last time he was in SL, he needs to show he's moved on from that. Give over. He started very tentatively but hit some good form or moved on as you say, once Fifita took him under his wing. No, I won’t give over. He was poor 2/3 of the season and improved the last 1/3 of the season. A season which we still finished rock bottom and got relegated. I want to see some consistent good performances from Atoni before I make my mind up about him. What exactly is wrong with that? He has a lot to prove at SL level especially after our last time here in 2023. I think the 'give over' was aimed at the bit before your post about, ' he was poor last time he was in SL'. As most agree once he got some backup in the middle he finished pretty strong in 2023. TBf To Atoni, like plenty of guys that arrive from down under, he started slowly and to add to that he was in a poor team, all over the place in structure, quality and confidence. When he got some extra help in the middle when Fifita arrived, we saw him get more & more confidence and he finished the last 10 games or so off well imo he showed he was a SL-quality player. I think he's improved since then, even taking into account the comp last year, under DP and the guys, he's got fitter, finds his front more, rather than milking every meter and cracks on and plays the ball quicker than when he first arrived. For me, it's just about injuries and keeping his form consistent, if he does that he's a quality Prop, who I haven't got many doubts about.

Latest "RUMOUR" Jackson Hastings to Whinos Brodie Croft to Trinity.
If there is anything in this we would have to lose a overseas player or the quota rules are changing, but we were in in for Mat Croker.
Atoni is pretty much injured for the rest of season give a few weeks so that would seem to be the obvious movement if there is overseas to come. I would be fine with Croft if so. It would however leave us with Croft, Lino, Truman, Russell and Lawford. Which is quite a lot but we have seen how crucial it is to have a halfback available to how we function. Hopefully moving Trueman on Do not think Mr Ellis will be to happy about the situation at present ,and did say we will move any player on to replace with a better player if it is what Mr Powell wants .

I don’t think this is a case of being better. Trueman is clearly a high class player. There aren’t any indications from the club Trueman will be moving on. In fact quite the opposite with them confident they can resolve the issue. It appears fans are wanting us to pay him out of a 3 year contract which sounds ludicrous in my eyes. Some of the comments about Trueman have been in poor taste in my eyes. If it’s determined that medically he isn’t fit to play due to a chronic injury I think that’s when we would see movement. That isn’t the case presently and I would hope trinity fans would be more supportive of someone struggling with a back injury. They aren’t nice even without playing rugby.

| I agree.
There certainly aren't many better around. I'm firmly in the camp of trying to rehabilitate him rather than bin him.

| My biggest concern is for the lad himself. Too many sportsmen push their bodies too far and suffer for it in later years, I just hope his issues can be resolved and he can continue to play without causing issues later on. If not, I hope he's not just cut adrift and discarded like a worn out appliance but is helped to adjust to the next stage of his life.

Could understand this, we should be more supportive of a player with a back injury if he had played for us on the pitch for a year or two ,but he had a operation on is back at Castleford ,Played less than half the matches at Hull .in over 2 year Hull let him go with a year left on his contract ,Know we let him go back on lone ,but do not think he played for them again .He as been a bad signing and fans keep telling me he is class, how do you come to that decision when he as played 5 games for us ..Once any player as to start having injections in is back it is bad news .He can kick a ball ,but think every 6 in S L can do that .That does not make him class .My main worry is he could go out on the pitch, and get a bad knock on back that could do a lot of damage Why as a club should we have that responsibility when we are heading in the right decision big time
