From someone who was actually at the game.

Those of us who were there (All 16 of us), felt that we didnt do that bad. Going forward we looked ok and we had 2 tries chalked off.

Fev showed why they the best team in the league. They have won everygame and put a big score on everyone they have played so far.

Tonight it was more of how good they were.

Only player I would question is Richard Owen.

Get Matt Callander in, he will sort your team out and has worked with most of them before. Proven silverware winner.

I usually go home and away but didn't go last night so I can't make any objective comments. However, I find the above review interesting compared to some of the others.

It just shows how fans have different perspectives.

I'd pretty much agree with everything Andy posted , I personally was a bit surprised at some of the really negative stuff posted on here tonight, I thought we gave Fev a fair old game ,maybe conceded a couple of really dumb soft tries near the end but I dont think it was the major disaster that everyone seems to think.

Their supporters were confident in the Blue Lagoon bar prior to the match were predicting a margin of 60 or 70 clear points between the two side . That was not being big headed just based on how they had been playing in previous weeks. When they really get into top gear t'Rovers are going to run up some huge scores

Fev are a country mile in front of everyone in this division , not just on the field but off it as well .. time to watch and learn

littered with mistakes , soft defense and running round like headless chickens.

Couldnt make it to the match either but a friend recorded it on Premier, I honestly think we didnt do to bad against Fev - Score didnt reflect the effort the team put in - We were never going to beat Fev were we ?
I think the York game is make or break - If we win(when we win) that will give a boost to the lads and then we could be on a winner run for the next 3 matches.
Were all the directors present last night? did anyone manage to speak to them to ask whats going on with the club and marchy

Its getting a bit boring now is this thread only 2 people who are very BORING and living too much in the past!, no i didnt see the game last night but I had another person telling me all about the game and considering the scores we didnt do bad at all compared to other games last season under JD coaching. As for coach, you can spend all the money you have, get the top coach and still may get the same result or even worse!

If I may be excused for boring you all to death with some stats

, if we had played the same fixtures last season as this (we didn't play Whitehaven last season) our record would be:
(2012) W 2 D 0 L 3 F 62 A 97 Pts 7
(2013) W 0 D 0 L 5 F 68 A 154 Pts 2.
Against these same sides last year we scored 12 tries a 7 goals. This year 12 tries and 10 goals.
On tries against they come in these periods: 0-10 (3), 10-20 (4), 20-39 (5), 30-40 (icon_cool.gif, 40-50 (6), 50-60 (7), 60-70 (7), 70-80 (1) so it shows we are reasonably solid in the first 20 minutes but need to tighten up before half time and straight after. Korky coming off the bench last season will have helped with this!
So this "disastrous" season may not be as bad as it is viewed. We need to tighten up the defence though and stop the soft tries and take points off the the lower sides in the league.

No offence Len but you cant take any of that into account. Completely different teams and coaches.

Yet again on here somebody comes on here with a reasoned well researched and valid point and its dismissed so trivially so you can continue the moaning -its like listening to old ladies on a bus !!!

Without putting words into Rach's mouth I think there are those that are debating on emotion and those that are trying to back up what they say with actual evidence. There also appear to be those that ignore anything that does not suit their argument

Well done Lawkholme Len brilliant stats it’s good to know someone has such dedication I enjoyed reading them . However the facts are after a quarter of the season we are 2 points adrift at the bottom of the table with the worst points for and against. It hurts me to say in all honesty currently we are the worst team in the Championship.
There is no point in bickering with each other on this forum we need be honest and analyse why. It starts with the following simple questions.
Have all the other clubs got a larger playing budget than Cougars….No
Have other clubs got injuries to players in their squads….Yes
Have all the other clubs got better players than Cougars….No
Having had a season in the Championship should our players be better prepared at this level than the promoted clubs….Yes
Should we be better than the four clubs that finished below us last season….Yes
Have other clubs got better DR players than us….Debatable
Are other clubs better organised than Cougars on the field …Yes
Is Paul March a good leader on the field….No
This last two points are the reason why we have yet to win a game, there is no other excuses! PM was responsible for player recruitment in the off season, tactics for each game and general leadership on and off the field.
As I mentioned in my first ever post on this issue,the day of reckoning is fast approaching for Paul March, it has now arrived nothing less than a win against York will be acceptable. Failing that please step aside as I have no faith in the Directors replacing you.

I have to say I agree with Rach and Diehard. This is great work from Len.

As a former trained analyst for a large financial institution in my earlier years I would have no issue with that piece of work. Whether it be sport, retail or financial you want to compare year on year performance. You are always going to have variables and in this case it's the players/staff and the coach/management. This should not prevent a comparison and may in essence explain the performance issue. In Len's case he's compared this season against last and shown under-performance, albeit, not as dire as some would make out. There will be any number of reasons for this, be it players, coaching or maybe other factors.

Looking at it simply and I think Diehard eluded to it, we are not clinical enough with ball in hand and fail to punish teams' mistakes. Defensively we are conceding some soft tries. Thursday was a shining example. We conceded early and then had a period of pressure but failed to capitalise on Featherstone's errors. They then rode the little storm and punished us.

All in all, I for one didn't expect us to beat Fax, Feav or Leigh, but hoped we would show progression from last season. I expected us to beat Swinton and Haven so I am disappointed.

Do I think the Board will make changes, no. I'm not sure they can afford to.

Would a defeat against York make PM's position untenable, maybe not, but the game on Sunday is massive.

As I mentioned in an earlier post , I suspect the balance sheet could be quite healthy
with only paying lose match fees to the players thus far ....So ,maybe they could afford
to make some changes.....

It's my ethic that it's only when you are at the bottom you know how really good a club you are. This club belongs to [uUS[/u so get involved. Such things as getting a team together and spruce things up around the ground, contribute to the programme, buy a half-time draw ticket. For the price of a pint every week join Squadbuilder and then we can fund more players. I don't think it has been recognised what an incredible job Margaret Procter has done with the Squadbuilder. It is the small things that can really do great things indeed.

Its just like saying, the beer isnt as good as last year and the bar staff are very slow in serving. When the bar staff are new and so is the beer. How would that be ok.

You may well be right, but there will be contracts to pay up and possible signing on fees and wages to new recruits etc. But, like I say you could well be correct and the club has some money in it's balance sheet.

I'm not disagreeing with everything you've said, just adding perspective.

If you are going to solve a problem then you need to establish the REAL root cause(s) first.

You could be right but it could also have used it to pay off it's debts (I would assume it still has them).

It would be nice to think we have a cash surplus but I can't think of many loosing RL clubs that have much.

Yes , would be interesting to find out.
