| Ilkley Cougar is entitled to his/hers oppinion just like everyone else on here domminence!! End of the day the majority of people on here only express concerns because they actually care about the club and want it to do well! Got to agree with Ilkley Cougar that the club dosnt do enough on the merchindise and marketing side.

Absolutely and I couldn't agree more. It is my opinion (which as you state I am entitled to) that this is not the place to start scaremongering or surmising about cash flow based on a marketing strategy. I also care about the club, but rather than contribute to the rumor mill I thought it would be a good idea to get a club comment. Read into that club comment what you want. My question to the last poster was merely about what impact airing your concerns on here will have. If you have a genuine problem with the club or want an answer go to the club and ask the question. I think the issue about marketing has been raised on here before which is valid.

Just one further point, I'm not sure many of the Cougar hierarchy actually go on this site so your unlikely to get an answer to the concerns raised.

and by the way, I'm concerned that they are offering such a good deal, so early. The tickets are absurdly discounted and that can only be for one reason and that is because they need the money. If that is not the case, Gary should think more about what messages the offer is sending out. IF IT IS a genuine offer to loyal fans - why now? Why not wait until later in the season? And why such a big discount? Why are they throwing potential money away?
For me there are too many questions.

A superb season ticket promotion for the 2013 season available until 31st May
Only available for Adult and Family Season Tickets
We are in the unique position of knowing that we will be playing in the Championship next season. As a result, rather than leaving season ticket sales until the last minute (and all the intense administration over a short period) we have decided that we might as well start selling season tickets for 2013 now.
Next year the season tickets will cover 15 matches (13 Championship and 2 Northern Rail Cup) and we will be putting match prices for adults up to £15 in line with all other Championship clubs. This would mean a cost of £225 if an adult paid for every match in full.
Until 31st May 2012 we will kick off the season ticket promotion with the following prices to get the interest levels going and for the club to show loyalty to our fans.
Adult Ground access only £120
Adult A and D stand access £140
Adult B stand access £150
Family Ground access (includes 2 adults and up to 3 under 16's) £280
Family A and D access £340
Family B access £400
This is only available until 31st May 2012. On 1st June we will be putting prices up to, for example, £160 for an Adult Ground Access ticket and £360 for a Family Ground Access ticket. Also note, on 1st June we will be introducing a pay monthly scheme to help with the cost of the season ticket.
Visit or online shop www.keighleycougars.com, call 01535 606044 or call down to the club to take advantage of this fantastic offer.
This season is going well so far and I think it will provide a fantastic platform for next season! Come on Cougars!

Without trying to argue every point, I'm not sure I would define this as a fire sale. The season tickets are offered at 2012 prices (ground access)which many football clubs did, i.e. price freeze. Yes, we are playing possibly 3 more home games, however, when you consider fans are still technically owed 1 game from the challenge cup mix-up then another 2 games free wouldn't be defined as fire to me. When the club offered season tickets at a possible price of £60 nobody defined this as fire then?

Domi,
It's not so much the price but the timing that is causing me concern.

Quote We know where we are going to be already and as the club's running costs are much higher in Spring and Summer than Autumn and Winter then it makes sense to get the money in now rather than wait until November when the club's running costs drop to virtually nothing. '"

I know I might come across as being cynical, but I know I'm not the only one. I like many of us have seen the rise and fall and rise again of this club. To be honest the alarm bells are ringing. I'm seeing concerning things like this offer, and hearing other concerning things, that out of respect for people I hold in very high regard I won't put on here.
I like everyone else on here just wants the best for the club. We all have differing opinions on what that is which is why being the chairman of a club is a difficult job, it's impossible to please everyone entirely. Which is what makes this forum worthwhile, we get to talk Cougars and air our views, hopefully free of prejudice. I actually think the membership idea is a very good one, in fact I think it would be a great one if the membership got an elected seat around the boardroom table, a direct link between the fans and the very top.

I have many reservations about our chairman and certainly don’t want to spend “tomorrow’s money” today. BUT the bloke IS trying and it IS A GREAT DEAL.

| Stealth - I get where your coming from and at no time has anyone said this forum is not worthwhile. My only point is that people ask questions that nobody on here can answer. The only place to get an answer in the main is from the club. I'm sure we all care and not everyone will agree with you or I and I have no issue with that. However, that being said, this thread started by rumor spreading and to quote "To be honest the alarm bells are ringing. I'm seeing concerning things like this offer, and hearing other concerning things, that out of respect for people I hold in very high regard I won't put on here" What is the purpose of that. If you know something and can share it do so, but what is the point of intimating you know something but can't/won't share. Was there a need to even mention it? This just causes unnecessary unrest. Like many have said, we all care so those you who are not privy to the information you are will be concerned by your note. That's surely not what this forum is for. End of rant!

I would back you up on that 100% stealth as we discussed the other week, would be a fantastic idea to get some elected fans on the board who can give some totally impartial input from and feedback to fans as the present system of speculation and chinese whispers can be very alarming particularly when we are trying to engage new supporters. As season ticket holders we already have a share in the club thats before we spend a penny in the bar. We are all passionate about supporting the club just look at the travelling support (or should i say listen to it) .
Could be a fantastic opportunity for the CLUB to involve us more behind the scenes irrespective of who is at the helm, as stealth said not an easy job and does open you up to criticism. Have any of you approached Mr Fawcett with your enquiries?? Concerns?? I know he has an open office door at cougar park as I have entered it myself and found him to be very approachable, Im not suggesting that we bombard the guy with a million questions but if you have a real issue I'm sure he would offer an answer/explanation. Then if your not satisfied take it further if its serious enough. :

| Stealth and Designated Driver have both suggested a place on the board for a fan(s).
Do you mean a fan(s) is allowed to "listen in" or do you mean an actual place on the board ie a director?
I can't imagine any board allowing either of those situations to be honest.
If you mean that the board communicate with a designated fan(s) with the purpose of closer interaction with the club then that might work.

Sometimes knowing things can leave you in a bit of a quandary. I did carefully consider whether or not to post the bit you've highlighted. Do I say what I know, and cause folk concern through awareness? Or do I keep schtum and regret it if something goes wrong and folk lose out? There's no particularly right or wrong answer is there?
Certainly on my part there's no agenda against the club or anyone at the club, just concern.

In an ideal world a director. Let's be honest fans put a huge amount of money in to the club and it would give them a voice as regards how it's spent.
I'm with you as regards I don't think the board would ever let it happen though, it's understandable that they'd seek to protect their stake in the company.
There a plenty of clubs around the world that are run in their entirety by elected members And it never did FC Barcelona or Real Madrid any harm.

| Are the season ticket offers going to be publicised? through the weeks to come because this is the first ive heard of it, it seems as iam a loyal fan and use this forum to find out NEWS! about the club, maybe this NEWS should be made public for fans who dont use this forum and have the chance for early bird season ticket, I think this should of been mentioned at the last home game (sheffield) and then in the keighley news weekly to give folk time to react, it just seems a bit hasty, i hope this is read as positive feedback.

| If any one wants to make a comment on this topic please do.
I still think its done at the wrong time.
This is a good deal. Much better than the one offered for this years season tickets.
This deal could have been done towards xmas. Use it as a selling point for next year.
Make it a deal where the first 300/400 get it at the price.
From now till then. Tell people about the fantastic season ticket offer. The club will be doing for next year. Keep hinting about how good it will be and then hit them with it. Make sure you tell people, when the launch date will be. Get people looking for the news about on the day the deal starts.
Big launch, blanket coverage on Facebook, Twitter and the clubs and this website.

The current board would not allow this, not out of malice or greed but because of the implications of making a "fan" a director would have.
1) The fan would have a vote at board meetings
2) The fan would have significant legal obligations
3) The fan would have a significant duty of care.
The average man/woman in the street would not be expected to either know or understand this. If the club did go bust the fan could be left with a significant financial obligation.
I spend more in the supermarket than I do at Cougars yet I don't expect to be made a member of the board at Morrisons.
With regard to saying you "know something significant" about a potential club problem, but not saying what it is, I don't believe is productive and only feeds the rumour mill.

| Surely the easiest way for the Club to alay the fans' concerns would be for the money paid, in respect of the Season Tickets, to be placed into a separate account which is ring-fenced from the Cougars until November/December when they could access it? Possibly in an account controlled by a mix of supporters (pity that the Supporters Club is non-existent nowadays) and a single Director, with withdrawals only being permitted with the permission all of the signatories? This would ensure that the funds could not be accessed by the Club if there were any financial problems. Should this occur, then the payments could be returned to the individual fans who had paid for their Season Tickets .................................. or have I missed something?
OK, there have been problems in the past, but why does everyone jump to conclusions when they have no eveidence (or do they)?
Can't we have some positive thought for once?

At Morrisons you take the product off the shelf there and then, pay for it and it's yours to use as you like.
Here's a better one.
If you see that Game are offering a console game that you want coming out soon to pre-order at a good price. Do you pre-order it in the knowledge that their finances aren't great and you may lose your money?
The offer is undoubtedly a good one, I just have to wonder why so good and why before the mid-point of the season we're currently in. Sure it might be just be a matter of the club wanting the money accruing interest in their bank account and not ours, but I don't believe it is.

| I thought it would be best to e-mail the club and this was the reply I got back.... I'm sure they will be ok with me posting this if it puts people's fears to rest and sells more season tickets.
Thank you for your email.
The rationale behind the season ticket offer is to give the loyal fans a chance to buy them at 2012 prices prior to me increasing the price on 1st June. The pay monthly scheme will basically enable the season ticket purchaser to pay for the season ticket by standing order over 6 months, or more if they desire. For example, an adult season ticket at £160 could be paid for at a rate of £20 per month over 8 months with the season ticket holder receiving their ticket at the end of January 2013 in time for the season.
In terms of budget the adage with rugby league clubs (indeed any business) is to get money in as early possible and sit on it in the bank.
