Hunslet have to play Sheffield Eagles (away) and Featherstone (home), Swinton have Barrow (home) and Whitehaven (away) and York have Workington (away), Batley (away) and Doncaster (home) so with a bit of luck we should be OK though this time of the season there are some strange results. Championship is a cracking league and just hope we are a part of it next year!

We have had a very tough week having had to make two trips to Cumbria in three days, which makes our performance against Fev even more surprising.

One of the most gritty scrambling defences we have put up all season and credit to Paul March who was everywhere.

Some great "last man" tackles and a decent share of pressure on their line too. Our first try looked OK from my viewing point (directly in front of the ball). It would be interesting to see the video.

Considering that we had a patched up side all those players wore the shirt with pride and deserve a big pat on the back.

Thursday night is going to be really interesting - can the lads lift themselves again with a short turn round against Fax. There are some other critical fixtures:
Sheffield v Hunslet
Swinton v Barrow
Workington v York
....So the table might have taken a decisive turn for some teams.

I was stood in line with it. No one around us could see anything wrong with it.

We shouldve been 30/40 points to 6 (thought your offside try was ok) up in first 25 mins we created that many chances - a shame the video is edited not to show us cutting through the Keighley defence like a knife through butter in the first half, only our poor finishing and bewildering refereeing descisons stopped the 1st half score being ridiculous - a bonus point shouldnt even been on the cards

And even when there was a sniff of it we gifted you it thanks a brain fart by Finn in last minute who flings the ball out to nobody after knocking the ball on instead of keeping possession and killing the ball

Ive also never seen a team get 3 team warnings, repeat offend and then only get one belatedly put in the bin when the game is as good as over

All pretty much true. If we had had the ball possession and penalty count you had we would certainly have won by more than you did, so whose fault is that, not Keighleys. You were also on a team warning and then offended straight after and he bottled sin binning a second player of yours. As for head high tackles it would appear our team must be taller than yours?

Yes, third match in a week playing with a patched up side without key players and a scrambling defence that kept you out for large parts of the match.


You can cut through a side as much as you want but if you don't put the ball over the line it remains academic. The bewildering refereeing decision worked both ways.

I don't recall us getting three team warnings, but I could be wrong, I was busy worrying about a couple of purple faced Fev fans next to us.

The ref also missed your constant offside and loose carries that he called rip outs but lets not quibble. He also bottled the decision for the elbow to the head that laid our player out in the second half. Fans on that side of the pitch who saw it said it should have been a straight red card. "On report" seems to be the way many refs work these days so it does not surprise me. Unless the match video has a good clear view, nothing will be done.

I found it disturbing that you seem to have adopted the Wigan tactic of "cannonball tackle" where you hold up a tackled man and another man dives late at the held mans knees sideways on. This is everybit as bad as the "chicken wing" and needs removing from the game.

You are clearly a far better side than us both on paper and by results, but sometimes that paper gets a bit wrinkled and damp and the ink runs.

One more win from games v Halifax & Barrow will mean Cougars are mathematically safe from relegation. A big turnout of Cougar supporters and a maximum strength 17 should mean it happens this Thursday evening v Halifax.

A play-off place is still possible but I'd suggest it's more crucial to start planning now and doing everything needed to ensure a top 9 finish in 2014 (meaning a place in the new super league 2 in 2015).

We need to attract a big crowd and make sure the away fans don't outnumber the home fans. Reduced admission for this one might be an idea.

No way prices should be reduced. We need to make as much money as possible through the gate.

I just think these are the games to make most money. If we reduce for our fans we have to for them. If you was a cougars fans you would come for such a big game anyway?

Its the smaller gates we need to target. I am a season ticket holder but i dont mind deals but they have to be at the right time imo.

The RFL as a whole have a big problem to face and seem totally incapable of addressing it. The Cougars are not big or strong enough to do anything more than they do.

An awful lot of people have forgotten what Rugby League was all about. Even more, so it seems, know even less.

Couldn't make the game tonight, but looking forward to the views. Looking at the scoreline it would seem we didn't turn up AGAIN. Teams around us appear to be raising their game and getting bonus points but we seem to struggle against the bigger teams. Hunslet away at Sheffield as a casing point. A late try gave them, what could be, a valuable point.

The way I see it York still prop up the table and will need 2 wins now to stand any chance. Hunslet will need to beat Fev at home and Swinton will need 3 points away at Haven. That being said, if we beat Barrow we control out own destiny. It's squeaky bum time that's for sure!

Now's not the time to look back, but we really should not be in this position. How much could our early season form hurt us?

It wasnt a case of us not turning up. Fax were just much better than us.

Cougars supporters need to be more upbeat and confident than this especially with the memory of Cougarmania in the 1990's showing what was and still is possible, if everybody pulls together. On another thread about whether Featherstone should be picked to be put in Super League next season if London Broncos fold, even a Hull KR supporter thinks Cougars are a good bet for Super League:-

Although just a bonus point against Barrow would be enough to guarantee staying up, Cougars supporters should get to Barrow to cheer the team on to a famous win - then the other new signings for 2014 will be announced.

To be fair if you had played us a couple of weeks ago the result would have been much closer.
Yes we clicked yesterday but apart from an odd result we have been pretty mediocre all season.
Remember, we have lost to Featherstone twice, Seagulls three times, Leigh once and drawn with Batley, not the season we hoped for.
