| John ismiddle you are clearly deluded
So once again another feeder club set up in a different guise when will the fans of Leigh and York etc wake up to the fact they are losing their identy.
If the fans want to be watching Wigan or Leeds or whatever super league fringe players instead of possible local talent then they get what they deserve.
Oh I forgot the partnership clubs are told its possible some of their players may get chance to progress with the super league club, not really going to happen as I doubt very much anyone at either Leigh or York have anyone currently good enough, thats no disrespect to the players just reality.
As for League fan I have to agree with Andrew regarding trying to cause an argument all Guess Who did was posted something.

| Say Bradford offered you lot the services of a future Sam Burgess, are you going to say no because you'd like to keep your identity? Just out of interest (I'd genuinely like to know, I don't want an arguement), have you had any young lads on loan from Super League clubs and how did they turn out? Also who was the last Keighley player to go on to play in Super League?

| Richard Moore last from Keighley as far as I know.
Personally I wouldnt take Burgess etc just to get him fit for Bradford.
I am unsure of any super league players on loan to us, we have a fairly strong set up in academy etc.

| We've had a few loan players over the years some good, some very indifferent.
Loaning a player and being a feeder club are two very different things.
Bradford have tried to snare us a few times but we have resisted. I knew a business man who had a foot in both camps who firmly believed that we should be a virtual Bradford "A" team. I asked him a simple question - why on earth would anyone from keighley want to watch bradford reserves - he had no answer. (how many in Bradford want to watch Bradford reserves )
Not certain about our last player in super league, probably Richard Moore

But you'd take a player like him for a full season though, which is what I'm on about. I don't think any Super League clubs are sending players out just to get them match fit, the diffeerence between match fit at our level and Super League are totally different, so it would be pointless. Super League Clubs want to send a few players out for full seasons to give them experience at playing proper rugby which they can't get by only playing academy.
If Leeds hadn't sent Peter Fox (a York lad I might add) on loan to York for 2 years, I very much doubt he'd be the player he is today, he'd even admit that himself. So by loaning a player to a lower league club, Leeds helped York win NL2 and gave a very good but raw young lad the chance to learn by playing week in week out and become an international quality player. Why is that such a bad thing?

| Maybe we should advertise the play off match as Keighley vs Leeds just to get some cash in as it may drag some out of the woodwork.

| No-one is going to be adverse to any club having the odd player on loan.
However when it comes to large scale tie ups with big clubs like in the way York have with Leeds it raises 3 points.
1) What happens if they meet in the Challenge Cup? Wouldn't a parent club be able to have unfair influence over it's feeder club?
2) The unfair advantage it gives feeder clubs by being able to draw on the massive resources of their Super League parent clubs free of charge for talent. Where as proper clubs have to scout, develop and acquire talent at their own expence.
3) Feeder clubs lose their true identity. York City Knights are not York anymore, they're Leeds' biatch.

| Sorry to dampen your optimism Leaguefan but the worst case scenario would along be these lines.
Leigh (aka Wigan's biatch) in Championship 1
York (aka Leeds' biatch) in Championship 1
Cougars (nobody's biatch) in Championship 1
With no open age reserve Super League games next season, there's a real chance that they could get a boat load of quality players on loan next season and make the promotion spots their own.
I really believe we'll go all they way in playoffs but have been watching us for long enough to know that anything can happen.

| I think if I say anything else I'd just be wasting my time with you lot, I'll just start slagging you all off and calling you names as it seems thats all you want to do. But anyway, if clubs like York and Leigh want to go down the route of a tie in with a Super League club, that's up to them, it'll be them that benefit, the clubs who refuse the offer of help from clubs who have much bigger resources will suffer and end up scratching round for players. If you where a young player, would you go to the club with a tie in to a SL club or the one 20 odd miles away with a poor 3rd tier coaching setup?
York still have scouts, reserve squads, scholarships etc and a massive schools programme that has seen thousands of kids introduced to RL, we also have 3 quality amateur clubs within the city boundaries, each operating sides from U9's. York will be fine for decent local players, we might just help some Super League clubs along the way, that's all. In the past few years, Hull FC, Hull KR, Leeds, Wakefield have all signed players who are now 1st team regulars, that's not bad thing in my opinion.

inevitably this is going to sound big-headed - but do you really think, with the players and coach we already have signed up - that we will need Wigans help to win Championship 1 next season? Seriously?
secondly - do you really think Leigh fans would be happy becoming a feeder club for Wigan - Seriously?
Good luck for the play-offs by the way!

Andrew, Richard Moore didn't come through "our Academy" he was a Cougar Cub who went straight to Leeds Academy when he was old enough and there are several other Cougar Cubs who have followed a similar path to play in Super League, such as Chris Feather and Andy Bailey. Recently a Cub, Nathan Hawkesworth, son of Lawkholme Lane favourite Mick, has signed for the Bulls and could be on his way.
I don't want to cause a division here but the Cougars Academy does not produce players, it merely takes them from elsewhere and nurtures them. Players from elsewhere who have the potential to play at a higher level are usually picked up by the bigger Clubs at a very early stage.
To answer the question[i "Also who was the last Keighley player to go on to play in Super League?"[/i surely the answer is ALEX BROWN!

Oh that is a possibility but one that means a lot of RL folk would probably walk away from the game.
