It seems like "built in obsolescence". We need a first team squad of 22/23 players but they can't all expect regular first team football, especially when we dont have additional european fixtures. And we will continue to recruit, especially if/when we do qualify for the CL. There is some logic in having 2 or 3 experienced back ups on one year contracts that will make way when the bigger names are signed.

Harsh to judge Jags on one game, if you had watched him play regular I am certain you would change your opinion. He again is a fantastic centre half, proves it week after week. I wouldn't really mention Lescott as a LB tbh, he is awful there. He can cover if you are short but you are wasting a quality centre half by putting out there as we endured for the first couple of months of last season.

It's more than just that. Our defending has been so sloppy around the box. We've just stuck a leg out and tripped them up, I mean, we started well and looked well up for it, but too often we gave it away then allowed them to build pressure via set pieces. Since then, we've just stood off them and our movement off the ball has again been woeful. Kuyt offers little down the right and he's been unable to get Johnson in any decent positions.

We need to get Gerrard on the ball, that's where we miss Alonso the most, he would always get it to Gerrard in space, ready to create, Lucas is just too slow and sloppy.

Your really need Aquallina to be fit have never seen him play TBH but you look like a bottom half team at the mo with Lucas running the game he cant get players involved like Alonso did you will miss him more than anyone could imagine
