Quote ="fredie"Australia Socceroos beat Bahrain in World Cup qualifier
THE Socceroos escaped with a barely deserved 1-0 win this morning in Bahrain after a World Cup qualifying display to embarrass all concerned. Against an apparently weakened and vulnerable Bahrain, Australia played without structure, intelligence or style and a goal in injury time from Mark Bresciano was grand larceny in stealing the points.
From the off there was a lack of belief that suffused the entire team. Pim Verbeek has some harsh questions to ask of his highly paid stars, even allowing for Bresciano's goal which came when he chased down a loose clearance with 92 minutes on the clock and smashed the ball home
.
man of war ( ha ha ha when was the last time england won a war by themselves - yes the poor argies - world power that they are)... england won the world cup in 56 havent been close since, and the olympics , well that was "great britain" half your medals were won by scots and welsh, we actually flogeed england in the medals... and we beat you in football, in england, and we all hope we draw you in the world cup because we will beat you again... now take your warm beer and bugger off back to blighty you whining lover.

| Why the accusations earlier on in the thread that it would `kick-off` if held in England -from what I recall of our last international tournment hosting - EURO 96 - it was a great festive atmosphere with little sign of trouble anywhere ?

| Quote The letter states that around 12 stadia with a minimum capacity of 40,000 will be needed to host the tournament. The stadium for the final will have to have at least 80,000 seats - Wembley has 90,000.'"
Why is everyone going on about regionality? On the above message which is quoted from the official letter out by FIFA, that's all it stipulates.
Meaning that:
1. Wembley (London)
2. Old Trafford (Manchester)
3. Emirates (London)
4. St James Park (Newcastle)
5. Stadium of Light (Sunderland)
6. City of Manchester (Manchester)
7. Anfield (Liverpool)
8. Villa Park (Birmingham)
9. Stamford Bridge (London)
10. Goodison Park (Liverpool)
11. Elland Road (Leeds)
12. Hillsborough (Sheffield)
are all currently set within the current limits. Hillsborough is the next biggest one and is only 200 seats off 40,000. Not to mention that Wolves have plans to expand Molineux to 40k. Birmingham City also have plans in the pipeline to build a 55k stadium, while Notts Forest have a 50k stadium in the pipeline. Leicester City's ground can be expanded to 55k. Derby are going to increase theirs to 44k.
There is plenty of scope for the future. If all these come off, you can have Leicester's and Derby replacing Goodison Park and Stamford Bridge
This means you've got a stadium in all the country's major cities which I feel is perfectly fine.

ENGLAND, Australia, the United States and South Korea are among the 13 countries to have formally expressed their interest in hosting the 2018 or 2022 World Cups, FIFA says.
The 11 potential bids include joint efforts by Belgium and the Netherlands, who have already linked up to stage Euro 2000, and from 1982 World Cup hosts Spain and Euro 2004 hosts Portugal.
Indonesia, Japan (2002 co-hosts with South Korea), Russia, Mexico, the venue for the 1970 World Cup, and Qatar were the other countries that came forward by Monday's preliminary deadline, world football's governing body said in a statement on Tuesday

You are only allowed one city to have two host venues. London will probably have Wembley and The Emirates which would probably rule out the City of Manchester Stadium.

HARRY Kewell will miss Australia's key World Cup qualifier against Japan on Wednesday after failing to make his comeback for his Turkish club at the weekend.
Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek left the door open for Kewell to come in as late addition when he announced his 22-man squad announced last week.
But he said Kewell, who has been sidelined since having a hernia operation two months ago, first needed to demonstrate his fitness with his club Galatasary.
Kewell did not play in Galatasaray's 1-1 draw with Kayserispor, effectively ruling him out of a trip to Yokohama to join the national team.

More than likely Sepp Blatters doing the guy is a complete tool and is intent on ruining football just look at the champions league because our English clubs are succesfull he wants to change the rules i dont remember him doing that when the Italians or spanish were that dominant

I appreciate that you are exagerrating for comic effect, but actually the IOMFA is neither a member of UEFA nor FIFA, so the scenario you refer to could not arise. The Faroes might be a better option.

aussie's want 2022 world cup but Barack Obama wants our World Cup US President Barack Obama has gone head to head with Kevin Rudd over football's World Cup, throwing his weight behind America's rival bid to host the 2018 tournament by writing a letter to FIFA president Sepp Blatter.
"As a child, I played soccer on a dirt road in Jakarta, and the game brought the children of my neighbourhood together,'' Obama said, according to excerpts released by the U.S. Soccer Federation on Tuesday.
"As a father, I saw that same spirit of unity alive on the fields and sidelines of my own daughters' soccer games in Chicago.''
FIFA's executive committee will decide the hosts for both tournaments in December 2010.

Australia launches its bid to host football's 2018 2022 world cup AUSTRALIA has launched its bid to host the 2018 or 2022 soccer World Cup, with the event promising to bring a $3.9 billion bonanza to the nation.
Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy declared today at Parliament House that the bid was "realistic" and "achievable".
"Hosting the World Cup would provide Australia with an unparalleled opportunity and give Australia a lasting and living legacy for generations to come," Lowy said.
"On the world stage, there is no event with the same level of global appeal or audience reach as the FIFA World Cup."
Lowy said the people of Australia were the bid's "secret weapon".
"People from all over the world want to visit our country," he said
The winning bidders will be announced in December, 2010.
Rival bidders for the 2018 World Cup are Australia, Belgium/Netherlands, England, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Portugal/Spain, Russia and United States
The same nations plus Qatar and South Korea will also bid for the 2022 World Cup.
