Big betting race of tomorrow is the Bunbury Cup, hot looking race but here's my idea of a good value bet

Freeforaday - Showed massive improvement upped to 7f last time out when running the Falmouth Stakes placer Rainfall amongst others to just over 5 lengths in a fast run Group 3 at Royal Ascot. Prior to that he'd run Parisian Pyramid (run well since) to a length at Goodwood in a 6f handicap when taking on older horses and on his season appearance he ran down the field in the 6f 3yo sprint won by Jack My Boy (with Bagamoyo in second). John Best is a trainer in form with a number of good winners in the past two weeks and the step up in trip represented a step forward for Freeforaday last time out and there's a good chance that his hold up racing style will enable him to stay on through the pack in this race, he's one of the few relatively unexposed horses in the race and runs off a lightweight tomorrow.

Will be looking to get an E/W on this no price yet but its 23/1 on betfair.

Been a few hurdle horses which have come back to flat lately and done well in the long distance races this is over 1m4f, Ellison's horses are in very good form and Dale Swift who rides and takes 7lbs off tomorrow has been on a good few of them, with that claim its on a mark around 80 and its last win on the flat was on 79 in the Cumberland Plate when it scored a impressive 5 length win over the 1m3 1/2f its had a win and a close 2nd and a 4th over hurdles at + 2 miles went over fences for the first time when last seen in May hopefully its recovered from that bad run and still holds its flat form.

Varenar - It's well known on here that I follow racing in various countries around the world and this French colt is one of the few in the race who'll appreciate the stiffer track at Newmarket compared to Ascot. A Group 1 winner as a 3yo on Arc day at Longchamp when his victims included star filly Goldikova he's taken a couple of starts to come to himself this term, with a defeat at odds-on in Germany preceeding his run behind a number of todays rivals, most notably Starspangledbanner (raced on favoured stands side) and Fleeting Spirit (led them home on the far side). Varenar was on the unfavoured far side at Ascot and as such had little chance of winning with a smaller group of horses to race with, fewer pace angles and although he was beaten over 4 lengths the last day I expect this track to suit him much better and he should be finishing strongly at the finish. Gerald Mosse replaces the injured Christophe Lemaire (broke his leg at Compeigne on Monday) and he's drawn on the favoured far side, with the likelihood of them all racing in one group being on the freshest of the ground should play into his strengths.

Was at Haydock when it won over 5 furlongs on it's first run of the season. Was mightily impressive that day has been gelded over the winter, for mine ran too bad to be true at Ascot last time out something must of gone a miss. Stoute will have it ready for this and the return to 6 furlongs is a massive plus imo. Nicely drawn and the Stoute/Moore combo is the best in the business. The price of 16/1 represents excellent value on a top class lightly raced sprinter who was a beaten favourite last time out.

Fleeting Spirit - Doesn't need much explanation really, top class filly and don't see any reason why she can't replicate last years success. Ran a blinder on her comeback run and will come on for that and will be hard to beat IMO.

Gallagher - 'Group horse in a handicap' is usually a term given to an unexposed improver considered to be a potential group horse. Well Gallagher already has 'group' form in the book in the shape of being runner up in two group 2's and a group 1 as a 2 year old. His 3 year old campaign started with finishing 4th of 16 just under 4 lengths behind Ouqba in the group 3 jersey stakes followed by a victory in a conditions event over Plum Pudding who actually went on to win this race last year after that defeat! That was followed by a disappointing effort over a mile on soft ground (so excuses) and then only 5th of 9 in the group 2 Hungerford stakes.

Two runs as a four year old so far were a spin out at Meydan which I don't ever figure into calculations and a pipe opener last time in the Wokingham which was over probably too short a trip at 6f finishing 10th of 27 staying on same pace and making no impression. That should have put him spot on for this and with Brian Meehan's horses now running a lot better than they were I think the horse has a cracking chance and well worth an interest at 16's.

Will be having an e/w double...

Was going to do Showcasing E/W but CP has made a great case for Varenar didn't know it had beaten Goldikova last year so on @ 33/1 E/W

Done Overrule @ 18/1 E/W without the Johnston runner Bay Willow which looks a good thing and is being well backed.

Palace Moon 8/1 E/W in the Bunbury Cup backed it last time when getting a staying 3rd and its on the same mark so no reason not to back it again.

Varenar only sixth - ran on v v well though and was hampered early on.

Unlucky there (beaten just a neck by the fav).

A few beaten by a neck today.

Missed out on the place part of my Overrule 18/1 bet by a nose as well.

I'm off to York tomorrow for a works do.

Distant Memories for me off topweight in the big race - John Smiths Cup, suits front runners/horses who race handy just need him to jump out handy and cut across as he's not got a great draw.

Hannon's Our Boy Barrington 5/1 is an interesting one in the Newbury 7.25

If they can found out what went wrong last time as that was awful but the time before that it was just held by Contredanse and them two were clear of everyone else, Contredanse then won next time out by 6 lengths and then won the Group 2 Italian Oaks.

They were worried about the ground for that which put me off.

Date With Destiny, George Washington's only known off-spring in the world ran tonight a lovely 2yr old filly out of Flawlessley owned by Julie Wood, trained by Richard Hannon ridden by Richard Hughes won the 6:20 at Newbury by 1 1/2 lengths at starting odds of 9/2 after drifting somewhat.

Good to see Gorgeous George doing it on the track again.



Hopefully she continues to progress and show some of her daddy's ability on the track.
