| Quote ="Enfield Exile"I'll repeat what Cibaman said: "Deafening silence from John Terry".
The Chelsea supporting journos have been stating that Terry has failed to respond to the offer from City because he is on holiday. Well, he was supposed to play in a friendly on Saturday for Yeovil Town but pulled out at the last minute. This was a long-standing engagement.
Something fishy is going on. It was obvious there was more to this than meets the eye, following Chelsea's late night statement last week. It seemed to be an unecessary, and classless, response to City’s enquiry. However, on closer inspection, I suspect that Chelsea are calling Terry’s bluff. I just cannot ever see Terry asking for a transfer from Chelsea. I just don’t think he would want to be seen to want to leave the club. After all, he is to Chelsea what Robson was to United, what Mackay was to Spurs and what Adams was to Arsenal.
Terry was unhappy following the last round of wage negotiations. Apparently, Terry requested an increase in salary. This was refused, and the club said that they would not go higher than what he is paid, estimated by the press to be £130k. Later on Lampard asked for an increase. There was talk he could leave but the club eventually gave in and increased his salary – apparently to a level higher than that which Terry receives.
My own personal opinion is that Terry is using us to leverage himself a better deal with Chelsea.
As for Terry’s financial worth: IMO he is worth about £15m-20m in the current market (based on ability) but as a leader he is priceless to Chelsea.'"
Why would he need to say anything? The only time he would say something is if he wanted to leave Chelsea for City. JT has to play in the CL and the move would be too great a risk for him. He would be moving purely for money.

Or to reaffirm his committment to Chelsea. There are rumours that he is interested in joining us and that he has met up with Mark Hughes. Whether or not that is true, is another matter altogether. As captain of Chelsea, he should put the runour to bed. However, he hasn't. He probably won't as he doesn't want to be seen as agitating for a move.
I don't know a Chelsea fan who thinks that Terry doesn't need to say anything.

Why does he 'have to play in CL'? He may think he has a chance of playing CL with City.
Would he be moving purely for the money? Can you prove that, or are you making an assumption? He is joining a club with the resources and ambition to be serious contenders at home and in Europe. He could be part of something new, from bringing a club from averageness to to the top table in Europe. I'm sure that will help to entice some players.
Players are not solely motivated by money. For example, Ronaldo went to Real because they are bigger than United.

Really I thought it was because he had won every honour he could with United and he'd always wanted to play for Madrid? Nice slant anyway!

He does not need to come out and say anything, City have said they want him and Chelsea have said he is not for sale at any price. So why does he have to say anything, it's not his fault City made a bid. Dress it up how you wish but money would be a huge motivating factor in a possible move to City.
It's a world cup year and as England captain I believe he needs to be playing CL football.
Nice try Ronaldo moved to Real as he wanted to fulfill a childhod dream, those were his words, he never once talked about Madrid being a bigger club.

'Not his fault'. You sound like you are protecting a poor, innocent child. There have been rumours that he has sounded out City about a move. City have bid for him twice. I doubt that they would do that without some encouragement. He owes it to the fans. He should tell them where he sees his future in light of the rumours. After all, these are rumours that won't go away until he refutes the claims.
Quote Dress it up how you wish but money would be a huge motivating factor in a possible move to City.'"
Never said it wasn't. However, it's simply not correct to claim that there are no other reasons for wanting to join City.
Quote It's a world cup year and as England captain I believe he needs to be playing CL football.'"
Why would it make a difference? If Rooney missed all of the Champions League games this coming season because of injury and United getting knocked out early on, would you not take him to the World Cup if he came back from injury in, let's say, February?
The Prem is the best league in Europe. It's more testing than a handful of CL games against top opposition. Most of the CL is made up of chronic teams. I think City beat 3 CL teams in the UEFA Cup last season - Schalke, Copenhagen and Aalborg.

I could start with the rubbish about United acting with integrity in targetting and signing players...

Indeed, doing what Stevie G did with Chelsea themselves, red or Blue "through and through" - as long as they come up with something like what the richest club is offering them.

the posturing could well be JT & Chelsea both thinking what's on offer is too good to turn down (the money, not joining city i hasten to add) but no one wants to be seen to be up for the move - chelsea would not want to be seen to be wanting to flog 'Mr Chelsea / EBJT' & 'Mr Chelsea / EBJT' would not want to be seen to be handing in a transfer request - some papers have suggested Terry thinks Chelsea should have rushed to him with a counter offer, and their failure to do so, leaving him struggling by on 130+k per week is tantamount to telling him his is unwelcome at the club.
It is similar to when United signed Rio, everyone knew it was happening, but Leeds who liked to see themselves as rivals to United at the time didn't want to be seen to be a selling club and too eager to snap uniteds hand off, ferdinand didn't want to be seen to be handing in a a request to move to Leeds's much loved rivals over the pennines
So the posturing continued for a few weeks

But the fact remains that a move from Leeds United to Manchester United was a massive move up for Ferdinand.
A move from Chelsea to Man City is a massive move down for Terry.

Only in terms of current levels of competitiveness and CL qualification. In terms of popularity (i.e. supporters), you are still a fair way behind us even with your recent 'history'.
