The banner can clearly be read as a wind-up over Everton not being in the EC because of the Heysel ban. It's a lot more difficult to buy that this banner was created without the Heysel Ban being in mind.

Not by your logic, they aren't mocking the 96, they would be mocking the fact we all have to sit down now.

He isn't saying that they should put out that banner, just if Evertonians did you wouldn't like it. So why stand behind this one? It's ridiculous. It's glorifying Heysel. It's saying "Ha ha. Because of the deaths cause by fellow supporters in one of our matches you could not go to the European Cup". It's really indefensible, really immature, and really showing the ugly side of football. Liverpool aren't the only club guilty of showing off an ugly side. Why get defensive? You claim Evertonians are bitter, they will no doubt react negatively to this, is it bitter or understandable to object to this?

At the end of the day banners like this, chants about deaths and goading the personal tragedies of players need to go from the sport no matter who is doing it. One of your famous managers once said "Football isn't life or death, it's much more important than that." Well he was wrong. He was talking . It's not, and people need to stop acting like it is.

So, like Karlos said, how would the Dippers react if someone was to unfurl a banner about all seater stadium as a result of Dippers complaining about the lack of atmosphere?

'I saw this banner on Saturday too. I think it was brought to the game by fans of Bucherest itself as i saw them getting photograped with it by a pitchside steward about 45 mins or so before the game started. Apart from the obvious of bring another clubs banner to our game proclaiming there European Cup win of 1986, i may be a bit dim here but how is it offensive and linked apparantly to Heysel as the OP suggests. Why would they not have been favorates for the cup? It was a time when English football was dominating europe and an English team had gotten to the final in 8 out of the 9 years previous. I'm by no means an Everton fan but can appreciate how good of a team that was, i mean they beat the mighty Liverpool to the title and had won the Cup winners cup with us stopping them winning the treble with the "Whitesides onside" goal in the fa cup final.
