| Quote ="mutt1"I love the story about Johnsons contract negotiations.
Seth Johnson goes into the boardroom with his agent to discuss his contract, they went in saying "Ask for £20,000, settle for £15,000." So they went in, and they were offered £25,000. "WHAT?" Seth Johnson replied, obviously shocked at how good the deal is. Then Ridsdale replied, "Ok then, £35,000" Thinking Johnson was unhappy at the terms.

| Valencia - superb.
He gets better with every game. One of Fergie's best signings in recent years. Top quality. His crossing for Rooney's goals were absolutely brilliant.
I see Rio is injured AGAIN. Luckily Vidic is back, a nice solid game and gave Brown some much needed confidence.
I wouldn't have played Rooney or Evra tonight as they both looked knackered at Everton, but both had decent games tonight. Shame for Anderson that he got injured, he looked pretty good for the 10 minutes he was on.
On to Sunday, and I'm tempted by the 10/1 for no goals in 90 minutes. Oh, and the Glazer's are going to be there too, let's hope Wembley is turned green/gold.

That's true, not sure about the money, but something like that happened.
Ridsdale is a f-cking clueless piece of sh.it. Thankfully he's doing a similar job at Cardiff now.

Antonio Valencia is the most averagest, average player you will ever see. His decision-making and awareness of others is very poor. The following wingers / wide players are better:
* Andriyi Arshavin
* Aaron Lennon
* Joe Cole
* Florent Malouda
* Luka Modric
* Niko Krancjaer (sp?)
* Ashley Young
* James Milner
* Martin Petrov
* Craig Bellamy
* Matthew Etherington
I am sure there are more but I cannot be bothered listing any more. If he is 'excellent', how would you describe those listed above?

Arshavin - Not a winger really, does not beat a man and put a cross in. More of an attacking midfielder imo.
Lennon - Great pace, often lacks a final ball but has become much mroe consistent this season and should go to the WC if fit.
Cole - Very good player on his day, can't remember the last time that was, nowhere near as good as Valencia this season.
Malouda - Always liked him right from his Lyon days.
Modric - Like Arshavin, more of an attacking midfielder.
Kranjcaer - Decent player, got an eye for goal but would not have him over Valencia.
Young - Very inconsistent and not been at his best this season, young enough to get better.
Milner - Would have him at Utd in a heartbeat and play him and Valencia on each wing.
Petrov - Always looked good when I have seen him, don't understand why he does not get more games, would rather have Valencia though.
Bellamy - Is a striker.
Etherington - Average PL winger, nowehere near as good as Valencia.

He's far from being the best player in the world (as some over-zealous Nited fans may suggest) but he's also far from being the "averagest average" player in the world either...the likes of Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson and Kieron Richardson alone are far far worthier of that title than he is.
He obviously has some talent as 5 goals and 9 assists in the PL alone this season would testify but, as ever, with him being a Nited player he doesn't seem to get judged fairly by you. He's no Martin "Buster" Phillips is he???
Some of those players listed above ARE better players than Valencia in certain aspects but as an all-round, team player in the position he holds for Nited then I honestly don't think any of those would have done better than he has this season. And Matthew Etherington?? Give us a break, that's just laughable!!

His final ball this season, has been far better than that provided by Valencia. He also better at beating the full-back.

He's been injured all season, but if he and Valencia were available, would you honestly think that more clubs would be interested in signing Valencia?
Quote Malouda - Always liked him right from his Lyon days.'"
Personally, I don't rate him that highly. If he played for West Ham he would be a slight upgrade on Luis Boa Morte....okay....a slight exaggeration. Regardless, I don't rate him.
Quote Modric - Like Arshavin, more of an attacking midfielder.'"
He's certainly more of an attacking midfielder but can play outwide and in the middle. More intelligent than Valencia, makes the right decisions and can ghost past players. He's also a good passer of the ball

See comments about Malouda
Quote Young - Very inconsistent and not been at his best this season, young enough to get better.'"
One-trick-pony more interested in trying to get the refs attention. Good crosser of teh ball and his set pieces can be very good
Quote Milner - Would have him at Utd in a heartbeat and play him and Valencia on each wing.'"
Decent player but against a deep-lying defence, where he has to use a bit of trickery to get past a defender, he is very average.
Quote Petrov - Always looked good when I have seen him, don't understand why he does not get more games, would rather have Valencia though.'"
He's lazy and meek. However, his passing, crossing and shooting is on a different planet to that of Valencia.
Quote Bellamy - Is a striker.'"
He is a striker but has played as a winger virtually all season. He's quicker, more intelligent and a bigger goal threat than Valencia
Quote Etherington - Average PL winger, nowehere near as good as Valencia'"
'Being average' is Valencia's level. Etherington is sharper, more intelligent and technically better
I did state "wingers / wide players".
As for Valencia, he's had a handful of decent games, just like he had at Wigan last season. He was poor during the second-half of 2008/09. But then even at the beginning of that season he only 'performed' so well because he got lucky with some long shots.
As usual with United fans, he was a nothing player while at Wigan. Within a few months of joining United he becomes brilliant, excellent etc..

Arshavin and Modric aren't really wide players but I'd take either of them at United.
I wouldn't be at all surprised, or upset, if Cole joins us in the summer. I think Milner is a great player and would love him at United, he could definitely help solve our problem without Giggs.
I wouldn't take any of the others at United, mainly because they aren't good enough. Nobody has said Valencia is "excellent" just simply that he has been a great buy for United. His crossing is probably the best at the club, as proven by the number of assists he has. I'm sure Rooney is very pleased to have Valencia in the team with his ability to drop the ball on his head.

| Don't understand the problem with Valencia. He's quick, strong, works his bollox off crosses the ball well. I've always liked him, I liked him as soon as I saw him for Wigan and I think he's done well this season. He's not the best winger in the league, but, he offers an outlet for United, he keeps the width well, crosses well and generally does all the right things well. I think he could score a lot more, though. I actually thought Fergie was going to try and play him in midfield like Bruce did at times for Wigan, to utilize his energy, strength and pace, but he hasn't done yet.

| Quote ="John_D"No no no. It's all Platini picking on English clubs solely. Don't let facts get in the way.'"
But the fact is that because PL clubs carry so much debt, bringing in rules concerning debt will effect English clubs far more than anyone else.
But don't let that fact get in the way of thrusting your tongue up Platini's backside.
IMO it is up to the individual clubs to act in their own interests. If Juve get superb backing from the billionaire Agnelli family then good for them. If Real Madrid get sweetheart land deals from the Spanish government, royal patronage and special loan consideration from the banks, good for them. If Bayern get a few hundred million spent on infrastructure outside their new stadium, good for them.
If PL football is being run in an unsustainable manner then they'll eventually go under. That's their problem. But the fact that opposition clubs throughout Europe struggle to compete shouldn't mean UEFA bring in legislation to supposedly "protect clubs from themselves", which is what they're allegedly doing.
