| Of course the big problem for all the clubs who failed to go up, (or succeeded in going down) is holding on to your better players. Just because you were a decent side this season doesn't necessarily mean you'll be a decent side next season, as half your players may now leave, out of ambition, disappointment or bigger clubs sniffing. Similarly that is why it is not unheard of for relegated teams to slip yet another division the next season.

| Quote ="PAUL M"He looked completely lost on Sunday, it's okay stood there with a steely expression on hs face and clapping the fans but whenever a new manager comes in there is normally a positive reponse, even if it is just for a couple of games. Shearer could not even get that out of the Newcastle players.
He will need to wheel and deal and whether or not he is capable of that I am not sure. Tactically he looked lost on Sunday, as you say even if it was to throw some centre backs forward and play the long ball game it would have been something.
His heart is in the right place but I don't think it's enough.'"
Have to agree mate, Shearer just isnt ready yet. Newcastle fans wont agree with me but if they had somebody like Allardyce still in charge with that type of experience he would have kept them up IMO, as we just fell apart since December and was lucky to stay up in the end
I cant see them going up if Shearer remains in charge they need a experienced manager

| The problem Newcastle have is that if they appoint anyone other than Shearer and they don't get off to a flying start, the fans will be on the new man's back straight away.
Putting Shearer in charge would be entirely the wrong decision made for the wrong reasons, but it would cover the owner's back if it does continue going belly up on the field.

I know one of those clubs
Though luckily Roberto has kept everyone there so far but doubt he will manage that trick through to august.

The two Kyles (Naughton and Walker) looked decent for Sheffield.
Couldn't understand a word Roberto said on the ITV highlights last night. Having said that, my Italian leaves a bit to be desired.

Agreed, they were like Carlos and Cafu bombing down those flanks yesterday. Okay maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but I reckon a lot of Premier League teams will be interested in them.

| Quote ="PAUL M"Some good points in there Ash but your obsession with blaming Allardyce is your undoing. Yes he made mistakes but his are the only ones you highlight, Ashley made the biggest mistakes yet has about two words devoted too him. Allardyce had nothing to do with your relegation. Yes you have been on the slide for a while but had Keegan not been undermined by Ashley then Newcastle would still be in the PL.
Funny how Blacburn were in worse trouble than you yet Sam managed to save them fairly comfortably.
Have you honestly seen anything in Shearer to suggest he could be a top manager other than it's Shearer, change of style? Galvanising the side? As an outsider he seems to have had little impact, not his fault you went down but his appointment seemed to bring little to the team in terms of immediate impact.'"
It's not an obsession with blaming Allardyce mate, I was just pointing out that he isn't blameless as many people seem to think and that is why I put the points across as to why he takes some of the blame. I could list the faults of all of the others I named if you wish?
As for Shearer, there are signs there that he could do a job, yes. Since he's come in, we've played better football at times, despite having no pace or creativity in the side. He's made big calls by dropping big names and was spot on in the way he dealt with the Barton situation. He's handled the media very well. He knows what needs to be done to turn things around and I think he has the ability to do so. If he stays, I think some of the players thinking of leaving would also hang around which could be massive for us.

So long as you bounce back straight away. If not, I would say there's a risk they'll become expensive millstones you can't offload (if some of them aren't already). Although I've no idea what contract lengths are like in the Newcastle squad, there may be a large batch due to run out by the end of next season for all I know.

| A lot of people have been saying how great it is that Burnley are up, and I agree, on paper, it's a great story. Coyle has done an outstanding job, the football they play is good, and it is another new team in the prem. Great.
However, the Burnley fanbase is littered with scroats, scallies and nasty b*stard trouble makers. East Lancs will be like a war zone when Burnley and Blackburn play each other next year. I suppose Blackburn might sell out a home game, so thats a plus for them.

You're spot on.
There's only a handful who are out of contract at the end of next season off the top of my head. Hopefully some of those will be moved on sooner rather than later anyway.

I remember as he was wearing a blue and white shirt I'd have him back now if only because it would mean we would get rid of MGP.

so essentially, again, it the newcastle fans that are the problem.

The Burnley fans are so stupid that the last time we played them and beat them at Ewood they waited to get back to Burnley then decided to smash up their own town.
