| Owen Hargreaves will be a great signing for City, a bit similar to the Michael Owen signing at United. if he get's healthy, he will be a certain starter for City in an area they're weak in.

I'm trying to work out how Owen has been a great signing for United.

It will never happen unless it can be applied to all clubs playing in european competitions. And then it would take years to agree rules that took different tax regimes and currency fluctuations into account.

I think public pressure is going to force a change to football finances. It is just obscene at the moment. You have a tough economy where people are losing their jobs left, right and centre and yet the players are still ramping up their pay.
It annoys me a lot because football as an industry isn't profitable. The clubs lose hundreds of millions a year yet still claim the payments to players are justifiable.

That's the deal of the summer: Denis Stracqualursi signs for Everton on loan from Tigre. Never seen him play. Bet he's ace. #efc

| Denis Stracqualuisi is a legend. 6 foot 7 and as mean as Duncan Ferguson with PMT. Leighton Baines and Phil Neville are at Finch Farm and have spent the last 6 hours pumping 50 yard diagonal balls into the box. All we need now is Horne, Ebbrell and Parkinson.
Given his near mega star status, one has to worry about work permit issues.

shared gate receipts ended in 1983 didn't they? That'd be long before the PL and SKY deal came to fruition. You can't possibly be saying that the SKY and PL deal hasn't been much better for football in this country?'"
Can you honestly not see how these two issues combined, help to create a chasm between clubs?
Arsenal's stadium would have been funded, in part, by CL money. After moving to Ashburton Grove, Arsenal now pull in over £3m per match day. While Wiogan probably pull in around £300k.

| Quote ="Roofs"Manchester United and Liverpool have (despite spending a lot of money over the years which I am not doubting) brought through a lot of great young English players over the years, their success has been [iearned[/i over the years rather than just bought. They also have built up global fan bases.
Man City are completely false IMO. For years they came nowhere near been a top English club. They are simply trying to buy their way to success, which is why IMO however many trophies they manage to purchase this season or in coming years means absolutely nothing.'"
Do you not take into account that, early last century, United were saved from bankruptcy. The same man bought the land in Trafford, built them a stadium and then bought a new squad. At teh time, he was the equivalent of a billionaire. How long after the takeover, do we ignore the trophies United won, on the basis they were purchased?

Of course I can, you've summed it up perfectly how one club can make a hell of a lot more money out of a match day compared to another but there's more to this gulf than shared gate receipts but still the PL and Sky deal is a much better way for football in this country than without it. I'm sure Wigan would much rather pull in £300k from a match day in the PL than struggle to make next to nothing in the old first division. Obviously if we still had shared gate receipts clubs lower down the league would pull in more money but this has been the way of it for a long time.

Anelka has to be one with, 5. (Man C, Chelsea, Lpool, Arsenal, Bolton)
Parker with 5 (Charlton, Chelsea, Newcastle, Spurs, West Ham)
I'll throw Heskey (5) in there too (Wigan, Villa, Birm, Leic, Lpool)
