I think the reasoning behind it was to make the end of season games more meaningful and entertaining, and hence improve crowds - as you have teams playing each other battling for position.

For example this lunchtime's final games in the bottom half put the bottom 4 against each other - any of the four could have gone down depending on how the games went (Inverness going down in the end after losing at home to Falkirk who started the day bottom), similarly teams going for the European spots play each other in order to battle it out for those places.

It's a bit like a play-off series really, whether it has worked crowd wise I don't know, but I see the merits of it - it is certainly no more stupid than end of season play-offs in RL comps.

For them to have any chance they will have to hope Man Utd beat us by 3 ( which is very possible ) but they have to beat West Ham by 2, and tbh i cant even see them winning at West Ham

West Ham have nothing to play for now though, they're out of the running for Europe and will probably be thinking about hitting the booze at their end-of-season bash. Boro on the other hand will have nothing to lose and will really go after them.

Regardless, it still needs a 5 goal difference swing and Villa to beat Newcastle.

It's between Hull and Newcastle IMO, can't see the above happening and Hull need to win to have any chance of sending Sunderland down.
