Think Northants are decent value in the Twenty20 at 28/1. Their pool is weak with Warwickshire, Glamorgan, Worcester and Gloucester a fairly sorry bunch and only Somerset stand out. 2 go through plus the possibility of third place qualifying if they have a decent record they should get through and then anything can happen.

After a couple of days of decent racing, I just can't get excited about todays fare.

Agree in a way - was out from 3am till gone midnight yesterday to go to Auteuil to watch the Grand-Steeplechase De Paris, three G1's, a G2 and a G3 along with listed handicaps.

Great days racing - Jumbo Rio second for the O'Grady yard in the 4yo Hurdle, Pomme Tiepy 8th in the big one and Quevega and J'y Vole 9th and 10th in the Barka in which the former was very badly hampered by the fall of stablemate Kempes.

Also Long Run who's going to Nicky Henderson in November was 2nd in the G1 Ferdinand Dufaure to the gorgeous Rubi Ball

Quite surprised at the defeat yesterday of Mid Dancer, slightly hampered by the fall of stablemate Cyrlight, but was still close enough at the last to repeat his Grand-Steeple trial victory over Remember Rose.

Rose wasn't wound up for that - only 100% bob on for two races a year, this one and the Haye Jousselin. Though Mid Dancer was hampered by Cyrlight.

Very in and out team...but most are and thats the joy of Twenty20

Ipswich basically will need about 35 points to keep within the handicap and have yet to fail to get that in a meeting (only once have they got under 40).

Coventry will win but they will have to basically ride a near perfect meeting with no falls, false starts, engine problems etc to overcome such a head start and with Jarkel Hemple averaging around 10 points a meeting and the likelihood that if they fall 10+ points behind they can pick a rider for double points there is plenty of scope for him to go well and perhaps win a heat or two. Danny King and Peter Swiderski no mugs either and should help to make sure it's not all 5-1's to Coventry.

Not a cert but in terms of probibility its not a bad bet at all.

Coventry won by 19 but it showed how OTT the bookies handicap mark was in that in heat 2 two Ipswich riders were put out of the meeting through no fault of their own and despite 3 races being 1 Ipswich rider v 2 Cov they only won by 19.

Ipswich only won 1 race all night (and that was because both Coventry riders were excluded for causing crashes)

I think the sooner Coventry repace Fampton with Josh Auty the better but apart from that they are looking hot and if Stan James still offer 15/2 them to win the Elite League in the morning take it.
