Do non-United fans agree that our friends from Trafford tend to have the same 'personality' traits?
United fans in 'unable to laugh at ourselves' shocker.

Two potential responses:
1. If I was £700m in debt: 'no'
2. If I had many £billions in my bank account, 'yes'
Our owner invested £2bn in Barclays, and after just a few weeks sold his shares and made a profit of £1.5bn - that could pay off United's debt, twice. £25m means nothing to our owner.

| I don't know why EE should give a toss how much they paid for Tevez. It's not his money. It's not even city's.
I'm surprised no-one has brought up Fergie's comments that Tevez isn't worth the £25 million. Despite the fact that Fergie clearly held that view for the best part of 2 years, it did contradict the club's press release when they confirmed he was off which confirmed United has agreed to meet the pre-arranged price. So either Fergie thought 'I've come all this way, I've got to buy SOMETHING' like a kid in a toy shop or someone is telling porkies. I suppose Joorachian could have upped the fee but, if he had, then I expect United would have mentioned it as a rationale for not signing him.
In more city related news*, Ched Evans has been sold for £1.5million, rising to £3million depending on appearances. Sensible, he was never going to get a game.
[i*I don't want to be accused of being a city obsessed United fan, but they are by far the most interesting story of the football summer. Well, apart from the trials of handbag wielding, badge kissing, step father to Gangster's kidding, fighting scousers.[/i

Fellow alumni of mine, although he was in Derwent and I was in Goodricke.
I wouldn't bother as the joke is pretty much the same.
Anyways, back on topic:
Did I say Tevez was average? He's world class. Just like some of my mates are now referring to Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia
In all seriousness, Tevez is a good player but vastly overrated. He's never world class.

Genuine question here for fans of any club with a modern fairy-godfather:
Whilst it's all well and good that the owner's are so rich that frittering away huge sums on players doesn't matter to them, do none of you ever consider the fact that the [iclub[/i are still not necessarily rich? Obviously so long as the backer stays this is of no concern, but what if they eventually get bored? The club will more than likely still end up in considerable amounts of debt, just to an individual instead. Is it simply a case of just praying that they never leave, or if they do that they choose to write off the debt?

I am afraid that I won't respond in length as I have responded to this question on many occasions.
Two points though:
* Say you are happy with your partner, and enjoying your time with her. Do you constantly fret all the time thinking something horrible will happen to her or worry that she will dump you? Or do you simply try and enjoy yourself and think "How lucky am I?"

Our owner, through his representatives, has stated that the money that has been invested in the club is a 'gift'. We are very lucky, and we know it. Our owner sees this as long-term project. He has constantly stated this but opposition fans, with the only evidence being "he's an Arab" believe that he will pull out when he is bored.

Don't know, as you know, i tend to dip in and out as work allows, Tevez is a good player, I would have preferred him to have stayed, but not at the valuation they wanted, his bleatings through the media were a bit disapointing at the end of last season.

No, because I prefer to acknowledge/believe that my wife also feels something for me in return, and we are both fulfilled by living our lives with each other. Death is a much more extreme consideration.
In short, I think your analogy of comparing a 2-way relationship to somebody pretty much just taking up a new hobby is pretty stupid.

But people also suggested the same about Abramovich, and he's not an Arab. I think the reason some have suggested both may get bored and pull out in the past is because people with such vast sums of money who choose to indulge it on whims also tend to have short attention spans a lack of patience.
If it truly is a gift, great times.

Well the amount of time you were wishing for Abramovich to walk out of Chelsea it's only fair that people treat you in the same way.

I've considered it a fair amount. One of the funniest reports was how QPR were now the richest club in the world because of Ecclestone and the Benetton guy.
Quote Obviously so long as the backer stays this is of no concern, but what if they eventually get bored? The club will more than likely still end up in considerable amounts of debt, just to an individual instead. '"
There are hundreds of reasons why someone would walk away from a club. "Getting bored" just isn't one of them. The whole "he'll get bored and walk away on a whim" is just a vvank fantasy of oppo fans.

| Some genius comments from Stevie G in the witness box today....
The footballer said it was a heated discussion with Mr McGee and added that he wanted to "smooth things over".
Mr Gerrard said he hit Mr McGee to defend himself.
"It was very difficult at the time to explain to police why I did throw that first punch"

And that sums it up perfectly.
What is it with people who haven't got this kind of backing themselves that they suddenly want to look after us and point out that we need to be careful, we need to keep our feet on the ground, we willl end up doing a 'Leeds' etc?
I'm touched by their concern, no matter how deep rooted in jealousy it is, but if you are asking me whether I want to see another thirty years of self-financing, non-achievement or take a risk on it all going bottoms up after a few years of trophies then I'd take the latter anytime.
I'd rather us have ten years of being up there at the top before 'doing a Leeds' (albeit with trophies first) than ten years of 'doing an Aston Villa or Everton' followed by another twenty years of 'doing an Aston Villa or Everton'

You've already done a Leeds anyway by being in the third tier of English football. Are you saying you'd rather have City's next 20 years based on the past than Everton's last 20 years? You're a lil bit crazy if you do.

You're obviously in a bad mood, or humourless.
Anyway, I still think it is an appropriate analogy. There are probably better analogies, but it will do.
I don't know the true feelings of our owner. He gives the impression that he is here for the long-term and committed to the club. All I can go on is what he, and his representatives, say.
People in relationships generally trust each other and believe that they will be together until they die. However, it is fairly common for some people to have affairs and many 'split up' etc..
Your missus may be just sticking with you until something better comes along. Maybe someone less moody and with a sense of humour, and you have absolutely no idea. You can never be sure that your wife will not / is not having an affair unless you have access to all of the facts.

When referring to our owner in a negative way, the press and a lot of fans of opposition clubs, would often refer to him as "an Arab" or "the Arads". rarely do they refer to him by his name. Would that happen if he was English.
I also happen to believe that the press and some non-Chelsea fans were racist towards Abrahimovich.

I love the way you still think people are jealous, especially those at the top. Those who have been 'up there' as you put for many years with a history of trophies and being in major finals. I'm sure they are running scared.
And to say you would like to be 'up there' for ten years and then have it all go tiits up is just bizarre, i'll keep us where we are for many years and continue to develop and break into the big time when we are ready to sustain for a long time, not just dip in and then fall away, leeds esq.

Leeds did a City, thank you.
I know exactly where Dave is coming from. Supporting City is far more entertaining than supporting Everton. You lot have virtually worn in a groove in mid-table.
I'd rather feel "I would like us to avoid relegation this year" or "Hopefully we will get promoted this season" than "I really hope we cement our midtable slot this season"
