You know what I meant. Previous managers were almost forced to make all of these 'stars' fit into a team at the expense of balance. Of course managers want talented players, but the pressure to get the best from a bunch of players that didn't fit was far greater than any pressure Roy was under at this tournament. People wanted England to dominate sides, they wanted every player at his 'world class' best, but it was clearly never achievable because the side never reached anywhere near its potential. Oddly enough, I don't think Roy had to scrimp and scrape, if that's what you're trying to say?
Not you specifically, but I've read a lot of stuff throughout this tournament about Roy that's made me cringe. People have turned a blind eye to poor performances and poor management. Why? Maybe glorifying was the wrong word, but I think people have given too much praise to Roy over things previous managers weren't praised for.

Were they really? As far as I've ever seen the only serious lacks of balance have been the fact that Gerrard and Lampard never worked together and the fact that we haven't had a decent left footed winger for 20 years. There's little any manager could do about the latter, but on the first point the pressure has always been on them to make a decision on which one to go with and drop the other for the good of the team. It's had nothing to do with being forced to play both to satisfy the masses, it's been a lack of bottle to make the choice in case they got it wrong.

....Typical RS bluster.....You gave the guy THREE MONTHS!!!!!!!.......You got him kicked out because he didn't pander to your lot's deluded nonsense about being a so-called big team and how 'special' your club is.
I think if you had given him enough time, he would definitely have proved superior to both Souness & Evans, who are/were both toss managers, though they fitted the RS's idea of a manager, in that they had the club in their blood, understood the pain of Heysel and Hillsborough, plus all that other self-pitying nonsense that a lot of kopites like to go on about when the world is going against them....
It'll be interesting to see when the first rumbles of discontent start for Rodgers - I'm guessing about November time when its become obvious you will be struggling to make the top 5 or 6 again.

| It seems Sigurdsson will turn down the best club in the world(tm) and join Spurs. Don't know how many times i saw stuff on the front of the Liverpool Echo last week almost proclaiming him as a messiah. I assume now he's sh*t though.

He's a good player who I'd like to have at Liverpool, however if he'd rather go to a managerless and smaller club then thats fine, I wont lose any sleep. The same as if he decides to come here, I'd like it.

I know what you're saying but they only have themselves to blame for pandering to media and fan pressure. I can understand it a bit more with the English managers but Sven and FC have won titles overseas and could have made bold choices but neither did.

Fair enough, I understand that. I think he's done a decent enough job. Not great but we didn't underachieve like we seem to do at every tournament. No manager was going to overcome this lack of ability to retain possession in the space of time he had because we've been trying to deal with that problem since '67, under better managers that RH.

Go on then, tell me how Roy would have been superior to Souness and Evans. They were both managers pretty much before I began understanding football properly, so my knowledge on them is fairly limited, but if you can tell me what you had seen from Hodgson in his time as Liverpool manager that made you think he'd improve us, I'd really like to read it. Go on, make my year
I have no expectations for next season yet, we've not even started pre-season and Rodgers' influence at the club will be miniscule at the moment. However, if the reasons for discontent were fair and justified, would it be wrong of fans to voice them? You talk about Liverpool fans whinging about discontent, I seem to have an annual argument on here with blues about Moyes still being good enough, yet I'm repeatedly told he's took them as far as he could and he can't sign a good striker. I know a fair amount of Everton fans who have longed for Moyes out almost every Christmas for about three years running now, yet at the end of every season it's the same old "Moyes will get the United job soon, etc."
We will probably struggle to make the top 6 this season given the considerable gap between the top 6 and the rest (I doubt Newcastle will have another year like the one they just had, but if they do, good for them). With the right ins and outs, rapid progress could easily be made, just look at Newcastle as an example, but Newcastle's success seemed to come from extensive research and savvy spending and selling. Can't imagine we've had anywhere near enough planning done to sign with such quality like they did, but you never know.

Reguarly chasing the CL places? They were in it for the first time in their hostory in 09 or '10. Hardly regular is it.
They have a better team at the minute but if you truly believe that Spurs are a bigger club thsn Liverpool, I suggest you go for a lie down.

The attraction of Liverpool is still there, we're still one if the biggest clubs in the world, and playing for us still appeals. Us and Spurs are both in the Europa League this year. If Spurs want to pay silly wages like the 70k i believe theyre willing to pay then thats fine. I personally wouldnt pay him that much a week, the same as Rodgers.

So you think Kenny and the fans got him the sack? Deary me.
What I was saying we had to put up with was idiocy from people in the media like Henry Winter and Paddy Barclay. Of course, you'd miss the point.

| Good game tonight. Harsh on Portugal, they defended well but also tried their best to face up to the Spanish, something very few sides will attempt.
Spanish are crying out for David Villa. Del Bosque has got to start with one of the more direct players IMO.
