Overall you have not been the better team.
If you had been, you'd have won the league, it's that simple.
You can certainly say you were better for certain periods, but the league table doesn't lie. It's over most of the year. You can win matches as flamboyantly as you want but if you end up on less points than your rival, it's your own fault.
All those draws you cite are not a sign of quality.

Whilst I agree with you that the league table does not generally lie. Liverpool lost the momentum and ultimately the league between November 22nd and December 13th when they drew matches at home against Fulham, West Ham and Hull City.
Apart from that 3 week period I think over the rest of the season they have been the best team in the division. Roll on next season...

| Quote ="ash4hullfc"Yes, Allardyce is in there. After reading some of the posts on here stating that if Allardyce was still in charge, we'd never have been relegated this season. Those who said that, you're right - we'd have been relegated last season. Have those people forgotten that he managed us to a whole one point, home and away, against the mighty Derby County? Whilst he was in charge, we had our easiest period of fixtures but he failed to pick up anywhere near enough points to leave us safe. '"
The Blackburn Rovers 2009-10 Premier League campaign says otherwise. Allardyce's reign at Bolton Wanderers says otherwise. Allardyce's points total while at Newcastle (27 points from 21 games), says otherwise.
NUFC have got exactly what they deserved for getting rid of Allardyce.

Some good points in there Ash but your obsession with blaming Allardyce is your undoing. Yes he made mistakes but his are the only ones you highlight, Ashley made the biggest mistakes yet has about two words devoted too him. Allardyce had nothing to do with your relegation. Yes you have been on the slide for a while but had Keegan not been undermined by Ashley then Newcastle would still be in the PL.
Funny how Blacburn were in worse trouble than you yet Sam managed to save them fairly comfortably.
Have you honestly seen anything in Shearer to suggest he could be a top manager other than it's Shearer, change of style? Galvanising the side? As an outsider he seems to have had little impact, not his fault you went down but his appointment seemed to bring little to the team in terms of immediate impact.

| I'm wasn't sure United could manage 28 reasons to be proud of their league campaign so I started my own list:-
1. United are Premier League Champions.
I stopped after that, didn't seem much point.

Same applies to all the promoted sides, Liverpool's title aspirations, and Villa and Everton's chances of breaking the top 4. It was also said last year about the 3 who got promoted, with the only possible chance given to West Brom.
I really don't see the point in making predictions before a single move in the transfer market has been made. Yes the squads don't look good enough on paper, but they're as unlikely as possible to be the squads that start the season.
It'll be interesting to see what moves are made though, because I can't see the usual tactic of raiding the relegated clubs being as fruitful this time.

All very interesting stats but you win the league by gaining more points than anyone else which renders your interesting stats worthless.

| My overall look on the season:
[uManchester United[/u
Another excellent season by the Mancs, a couple of blips, but the thing that put them above Liverpool was their squad depth. United can afford to rest Rooney and Ronaldo and still come up with the points, but can the same be said about Gerrard and Torres for Liverpool? Hoping they don't win the champions league on Wednesday! But if they do, Everton have the title of "the only team to have knocked Manchester United out of a cup this year". I'm not counting the super cup... we beat Zenit anyway
[uLiverpool[/u
Until they get more players with the Gerrard and Torres "quality" factor and bring in more strength in depth then they won't be winning the league for a while. Rafa has said the summer is important, at the end of it, I'll be able to say if I think Liverpool have a chance of winning the league, at the end of last summer, I said no. Good season though, closest they've come. The double over United would have been sweet, but if they want to finish one place higher next year they need to cut out the home draws to Stoke, Fulham, Hull, West Ham type teams.
[uChelsea[/u
Good start under Scolari, but they were very poor mid-season, the 3-0 against United backs up that point. But under Hidiink they've improved alot and 31/36 is pretty good. Hoping they don't win any silverware though!
[uArsenal[/u
Another season without winning anything for Arsenal. And if Villa hadn't had this awful run of form, they wouldn't be in the Champions League next year, knocked out of two semi finals, need some quality experienced players in for next year.
[uEverton[/u
Considering the start we had, we've had a fantastic season. Out the Carling and Uefa cups and low in the table, it looked awful. But since the Villa game at home it's been very hard to beat us. Finishing above Villa as well to retain 5th spot, but Saturday is the big day.
[uAston Villa[/u
A season of two halves, they were on fire for the first half, but the small squad has come back to bite them. A good season, but they'll have felt they could have got 4th spot.
[uFulham[/u
Great season for Hodgsons side, beaten Arsenal, United, Villa drew with Chelsea and were beaten at the death by Liverpool, proves they're a very difficult side to beat, great season.

What's the difference between Boro and Fulham? Mark Schwarzer.
A good goalkeeper is vital. How many points was Brad Friedel worth to Blackburn in previous seasons? Tim Howard is very solid.

Another thing to count against Shearer is his knowledge of the lower leagues. For various reasons, Newcastle are going to be wanting/needing a whole heap of players for next season, and I think it's fair to say top level players wont be falling over themselves to join a Championship club. Shearer, in both his playing and media career, has basically no experience of life outside the top flight. Not his fault, but how's he expected to unearth the hidden gems that will help Newcastle get back up?
If he's going to stay as a figure head to help gee up the players and the fans, well he's had 8 games this year to do that and he's hardly looked like somebody able to do that so far. What amazed me most on Sunday was the way they went down without a fight. In the last 5 minutes, get your centre back's up front, hoof the ball up there in hope more than expectation, anything. What did they do? Nothing.

He should bite their hands off
Chances of him seeing out that deal?????
He might be out by Christmas with 3 1/2 years worth of cash (or a big pay off) waiting ahead as he slips back on TV.

He looked completely lost on Sunday, it's okay stood there with a steely expression on hs face and clapping the fans but whenever a new manager comes in there is normally a positive reponse, even if it is just for a couple of games. Shearer could not even get that out of the Newcastle players.
He will need to wheel and deal and whether or not he is capable of that I am not sure. Tactically he looked lost on Sunday, as you say even if it was to throw some centre backs forward and play the long ball game it would have been something.
His heart is in the right place but I don't think it's enough.
