Just looked on Sporting Life's results and it beggars belief that people were having thousands of pounds on Aegean Shadow at odds on at Lingfield, when it has done all of its winning on turf, only other run on AW was a flop as well. Some people really do back horses due to the trainer/jockey being a big yard - Cecil/Queally. Fast way to the poor house.

Nope but hardly a radical effort in getting such a fancied horse home. Interesting article in the RP about this sort of thing today.

The point I was making is that the horse was very strongly fancied by connections and was expected to win very easily. That wasn't the case though and Fallon had to be at his best to bring home the money, he was the first one of the bridle some 5 or 6 furlongs from home and had to do the business to bring it home.

For that kind of ride I can't think of another jockey I would like to be in the saddle.

The price of the runner up has no relevance at all really, just because it was the 28/1 outsider doesn't mean it ran a bad race...in fact like I said it ran an absolute belter in making the favourite work so hard giving nearly a stone in weight away too. Don't forget the pair drew 8 lengths clear of the 3rd horse too.

Certainly one to keep an eye out for next time...although no good to someone like yourself who has no interest in flat racing obviously.

I'm on Mexico at 3/1 myself. I imagine it will be pretty cagey but like you say, Mexico will want the win.

So bascially if you back both teams to win. Its around just over evens.

In this tournament I have had alot of luck in the draw, no bet market. Nothing spectacular, but abit more safer than just backing a team to winn. I.e Chile to win yesterday at the draw no bet was 8/15.
I may see how argentina set up, but 9/2 draw no bet, may be printing money, and if they do only draw, well I get my money back.

Some may not like bets at such low odds, but there is some easy money to be had.

Starting to come together a bit now. I thought I'd messed up big style at one point, but that's Uruguay in the bag and Spain looking a bit better, and the scorers handily placed. Shame Villa didn't put the penalty away.

Have since had two Accas go up the swanny thanks to Italy's draw with New Zealand though. Would be nice if results went well for the Serbs. Hoping for a Germany v Ghana draw which I think coupled with a Serbia win would sort me out.

Just had a look on betfiar and I am a complete novice on the 'lay' betting.

Am I correct in thinking that I can stake 5 pound on Slovenia AGAINST the win at 30/1.
It says my liability is £145 pound, if they do win. However, If Slovenia do not win, I would win 150 pound.
So I would lose 150pound in total if Slovenia did win, but If they didn't I would gain £150 pound in total?

Not going to take this bet by the way, but I am just making sure I fully understand? If this is correct, no wonder so many people use Betfair, (to cover there bets in play etc)

I may be wrong but I think all you would get is the £5 stake if Slovenia don't win. You play the bookie when you lay so you are effectively offering another Betfair customer the bet at 30/1. Should Slovenia win you would have to pay the other guy £150

I don't use betfair but that would be my understanding too.
(A layer is the same as being a bookie in that circumstance).

So If I were to stake 3 pound at 10/1 on Slovenia not to win. The liability is 27pound, would that mean they would take 27 pound plus the stake out of my account until the result is settled?

May have 3 quid on (well 30) to add abit of interest into the game, if it's as bad as the one on Friday.

I've never laid a bet on Betfair to be honest. I'd expect that your liability stake will be locked away until the result. Then you will either gain the stake or pay out.

Your stake would be £252 which as a normal bet goes out of your account.

If Slovenia then don't win you get £282 back you have to pay 5% comm though

If they do win you lose £252
