I don't think too much blame can be laid at Shearer. But the fact is that he's been brought in to save Newcastle from relegation. The positive effect from that has been negligible.

Shearer deserves as much blame as Dennis Wise. But as Wise is a cockney, ex-Chelsea/Wimbledon player and Shearer is a geordie legend, Wise will get a million times more blame than Shearer.

The bad thing for me though is if Newcastle beat Boro on Saturday they've got a good chance of staying up. The geordies will be demanding a Sainthood, a Knighthood and possibly deification for Shearer if that happens.

They've potentially got two more games (if Man United need something last game, you could discount that) to get a point I'd estimate.

Due to the utter gash in the bottom three this year, I'd have predicted none of them would pick up another point. But with Boro to play Newcastle, if one of those win it'll be 34 points for the winner.

If it's a draw though, Hull will be safe with what they have. They're playing with more passion than Boro and Newcastle combined anyway.

The only real positive for Shearer coming in was PR for Ashley, turning to one of the 2 people that would be able to get that kind of response from Newcastle fans.

Wise stuck his nose in when Keegan was manager, and brought in some overpriced, over-rated individuals.

It's no suprise that Shearer didn't want Wise sticking his nose in, in the same manner it made Keegan's job as manager, impossible.

Next week is a huge week with Hull playing what is IMO their most winnable of their remaining games and Newcastle playing Boro. If Hull were to win it really would be curtains for whoever loses the Newcastle-Boro game.

I want to win it against Arsenal, it might start going some way towards repairing the damage caused when Wiltord won it for them at Old Trafford a few years back.

You want to blame Wise for Keegan going, but it should be Keegan you blame.

Kevin Keegan is a geordie legend. He's managed Newcastle to comparative success. He's managed England, Fulham and Citeh. If he cannot manage to win Ashley's ear to outmaneuver Wise then he's clearly not up to the job anyway. It was the same whine from Keegan over the England job. Sven managed to employ the assistant he wanted. Keegan complained that he wasn't allowed to employ his favoured assistant because he was too old.

Wise may have been a dreadful DoF. He may have stuck his nose in Keegan's business. He may have slept with half the team's wives. But ATEOTD he was only a Director of Football and he was basically only there because Ashley wanted him there.

You only want to blame Wise and Ashley because you cannot accept any blame to your main messiah.

I'm not surprised Shearer didn't want Wise still at the club because most managers don't want DoF's. But him getting Ashley to get rid of Wise doesn't mean all the blame of Keegan going can be placed on Dennis Wise. Keegan's a serial runner, if he didn't have this excuse he'd have found another one soon enough.
