Having seen a couple of photos if the spring had hit an inch either way he'd have been a goner.

Hopefully he makes a full and speedy recovery.

Pretty sickening the video of Massa's crash is. You see the spring hit him, his hands relax and the throttle gauge max out as his foot floors the pedal. Then you see the turn ahead and him plough straight through it into the tyre wall. I don't think the crash did much damage which shows how remarkable the cars are safety wise.

Enclosed cockpits for next season perhaps?

There is supposed to be an update on Massa tomorrow morning.

Massa will be out for a fair while I think. Probably will not race for the rest of the season whilst he gets better.

There seems to be a bit of conflicting information about Massa. A fractured skull sounds quite serious to me. He was obviously out cold before he crashed.

I saw a picture of him when they lifted up his visor and he had a large gash above his eye and his eye was closed too. The helmet was in a bad state.

according to the bbc,just now, his helmet remained structually intact..but his visor came off and his helmet had a 4inch groove in it

An over-zealous response after what happened to Massa over the weekend? Having said that if you can't rely on the crew to put a wheel on properly then maybe the sanctions should be quite steep.

As if the Renault team would have released Alonso knowing his wheel was not attached properly is a disgusting thing to say.
