Laying a horse/dog/team is betting on it to lose. It's the opposite of backing and essentially involves you being the bookmaker.

For example - I fancy Manchester United for the Premiership next season whilst you think they won't win it.

I want to back them at 2/1 for £5 and you want to lay them at 2/1 for £5.

Your liability will be £10 (the amount you lose should Manchester United win the Premiership) whilst your potential profit will be £5 (the amount you win if any other team wins the Premiership).

It's the same with horses, rugby league etc I might want to back Saints to beat Leeds by more than 8 points and you might want to lay them.

It's you being the bookmaker rather than the punter and Betfair get around it by a) being offshore and b) running an "exchange" platform of Punter A betting against Punter B.

As mentioned, the FOBT's, avoid like the plague. i used to play them quite alot and win, but this was due to me hovering around in the bookies (I knew the people behind the counter), but not the correct etiquette I know.
I would win 10/20 pound a time, ater seeing people lose around 50 to 100 pound then I would steam in with a tenner to gain a slight profit.

I then got more pressed on playing them regardless, and thats when you lose.


the other month I had 50 pound "spare" and kept putting money on number 5. It eventualy came in, and I was 160 pound up. I then went to the next machine and kept putting money on 0. 30/40 pound down the drain, it never came in.

I then saw someone put around 400 in the machine, he then walked out looking so red faced, and I put around 200 never at any point was I up personally from my time on the machine.

I know now that it is such a mugs game, but when my friends are playing, I do put the odd tenner in, and when i lose it does keep me away from them, so I really do not mind losing.

As for the roullette on live streaming, the other day I entered the william hill live casino and on my first spint, put 4 quid on 5 and 8 split and it landed on 8 and I crossed it of.
