That's the thing, in Spain he plays up top on his own in a predominently counter-attacking side, he plays best when he peels off defenders shoulders and gets behind the defence, I'm not saying he couldn't do that in England, but he doesn't really have the strength or aerial threat to play up on his own, he could work at Arsenal I feel, as they shift it about well, but at the more direct sides, like Liverpool or Chelsea, I feel he'd struggle a little more.

Jagielka has been great at Everton and deserves his chance but i cant believe you think Turner is crap as you seem to take the p!ss everytime you mention him





On the game, England are playing some decent stuff and its great to see Cole and Johnson getting forward quite often as they are looking dangerous on the wings, Carrick has been our best player upto now tho imo

Spain are world class tho and they are great to watch

I think at club level he looks as good a striker in that mould as England have, along with Defoe as you say. Defoe, however, has scored 6 in 32 for England (to put into context, that's less goals in more games than Peter Crouch). Now I'm a fan of Defoe, don't get me wrong, I just feel that it's only fair to give Agbonlahor a run of games to see if he can transfer his ability to the international game more succesfully.

Spain have everything, Llorente was the only type of player I felt they've missed, but now he's broke into the national side, they look sorted.

Upson got himself in a shocking position there.

Bit too much ball-watching if we're brutally honest. A very good delivery and header, but he wasn't even challenged.

I don't think England have been too bad tonight, but Spain are clearly a cut above.



To compete with opposition like this England desperately need a fit Owen Hargreaves, to snap at their heels and deny them time on the ball, and players like Rooney and Joe Cole available and on form to provide some creativity, but more than we need more of a football brain as a whole - and with it the ability to play sensible football and have a bit of patience.
