Even in places such as Wigan, there are strong amateur Union clubs. Maybe he was just better at Union? They're vastly different sports.

Or maybe he wanted to try make it in a sport where you get paid more, play in internationals in full stadiums and have a worldwide profile instead of a profile in the north of england.

If Saints arent playing yes and I can honestly say with the exception of a couple of games, Wigan and Leeds, the standard of the union games are much higher and more exciting. But if you want to watch a glorified version of british bulldog then rugby league it is.

And if you want to watch a glorified game of 'All Pile On' with added goal kicking...

He's actually a Shropshire-born lad who grew up in North Derbyshire playing his school rugby in Sheffield. So not really many strong rugby areas there.



A couple lads from my school are at Leeds Carnegie, and IIRC one was at Sale as well.
