You mean the fights in 1996 and 1999? I think he's coming a pretty long way from those days! I'm 50/50 on this fight. I don't even know who I want to win. Edging for Manny though as I prefer Roach to Mayweather

| Quote ="Matt23"No, and I can see why people don't rate him, but I (like the poster above) think he is a great fighter to watch, if not a great fighter. How people can keep knocking him though, when he's been out of his way to make a name for himself, put his career on the line and come out with a last minute knock out to retain his world title on foreign soil is beyond me. The man has the heart of a lion, hits harder than anyone else in his division and has a granite chin.
He's always winding up a big punch which can change a fight, and his style is exciting, if not defensivley sound. Remember he's only been knocked down once in his career now, and he was hardly wobbly from that.
I do however agree that his defensive technique will be his downfall one day, hopefully not for a while though.'"
Not sure when he will be ready to fight again but if he can get ready for say August/September time a good name at the City Ground would be the sort of fight he deserves and live on ITV at a decent hour and he might finally win the public over (outside the East Midlands at least).
Know it would never happen but Rendall Munroe v Bernard Dunne on the under card would be perfect (know they are Sky and RTE contracted so possibly the fight will never happen anywhere) thats one match up that needs to happen in Leicestershire (do not think there is a venue in Leicester itself suitable) or in Dublin.

No mate.
Anyone who follows the sport surely knows that's not the case, it does sound good though.
Not long now and good to see Ricky looking cool and calm in the press conference earlier. Just goes to show he's learned one lesson from his defeat by Mayweather, he got too caught up in the hype and emotion of that fight and I'm glad to see he's not making the same mistakes again, his focus on doing the job is intense and that's a good sign.
I'll never forget a conversation I had with a very good friend of Ricky's in Boston just after he'd scraped past Luis Collazo. He said that night that it was a huge mistake moving up a weight and he should never consider it again because no-one would ever beat him at 140lb as long as he was alive and fighting, and I believe that will still be the case.
It's hard to comprehend that only 7lb can make so much difference, but with Ricky it clearly does and I think we'll see that come fightnight.

He couldn't get Collazo backed up, nor Mayweather. He's at his most dangerous when he's got his opponent with their back to the ropes, unleashing those vicious body punches, which then open up the head.

Interesting opinions in the article and on the video from De La Hoya who states (from experience of working with both Freddie Roach and Floyd Mayweather Snr), that Floyd Snr is the better trainer of the two and more technically sound than Roach...

Probably. It wouldn't suprise me though, Floyd Snr, strikes me as very unprofessional person. And TBH his body of work (in terms of people he's trained isn't great), apart from training a younf Floyd, and 1 fight with Chad Dawson whom has he trained? Joan Guzman? Whom under the guidence of Floyd Snr failed to make the light-weight limit for his fight against Campbell.

If he wins he is expected to fight the winner of Hatton-Pacquiao, like you say no great surprise.

Did not know much about Floyd untill he trained Hatton, I knew who he was though.
Agree with you though he comes across a bit unprofessional, he seems to have one a good job with Hatton, although you can not tell from just one fight.
Talk of Hatton joining Roach after the fight tomoz

Only from the Roach camp. And it seems all the talk of Hatton not making th weight has come from the Philipino media. Am I right in thinking the weigh in is about 10:30pm GMT?
