| That Hughes has gone is not a surprise - dead man walking for some time now. But the day before a game? And what could possibly have changed between last weekend and now? Unless Tony Fernandes had money on di Matteo getting offed first, it's odd.

They could have been negotiating a severance deal. More likely they have finally got the go ahead from one of their targets that they'll take the job.
There's also a possibility that they've moved because they figure Di Matteo is a better option than Hughes. Di Matteo has actually won things and got a side promoted. But I think the fact he's even more Chelsea than Hughes will rule that out.

Redknapp appears to be the red hot favourite. Redknapp perhaps didnt want to commit to the QPR job until the Chelsea job went elsewhere.

Yeah, I thought along those lines after I'd posted.
I'd have chosen Redknapp over Benitez. I'd guess at it being 70/30 from the Chelsea support if the option was given to us.
Redknapp has clearly never operated at the top level like Benitez has, but he's never really had the chance to either. But Redknapp is coming off the back of a successful period at Spurs while Benitez has had twin failures at Liverpool and Inter and sat around on the dole for nearly two years.
Even though Redknapp has just been at Spurs, I'd say most Chelsea fans are neutral about him, while most Chelsea fans cannot stand Benitez.
I think Redknapp's more "attacking" and "attractive" in his style of football than Benitez is. Di Matteo's having his achievements diminished, but Benitez needed a last minute equaliser to win the FA Cup final on pens and went three down in the CL final. One of the most magnificent achievements ever to get the three goals back, but CFC could play for a million years and we'd never be given a pen like the one Gerrard dived for.
I've argued for Roman and his board. I think there have been justifications for most of the decisions made. But the Jose/Grant and RDM/Benitez situations completely push me into the camp that thinks Roman is a complete idiot who's only interested in the shiniest things and only saving grace is a huge, open wallet.
I'm beginning to hope that Falcao and Guardiolo tell Roman they don't want to join his ridiculous circus.

Didn't HR mention he was interested in the Ukraine job? That sounded like a "You need to get me now before it's too late" bit of self-PR.

He stated this morning he was off to Ukraine to talk to their FA, the same day QPR came knocking.

17 managers in 10 years.
Well that's not really true. There's maybe 2 or 3 managers there. The rest of them were people who were walking past the stadium and were too polite to turn the club down when they were offered the job.
At least if Redknapp does save you (god forbid) then this tale of a rescue from relegation will be genuine.

I think you've got that backwards. Redknapp's a better manager than the QPR job. If he has to squeeze his way in there then he tells them where to shove the job.
I think he didn't really want the QPR job. He definitely didn't like the idea of the Ukraine national team. But he wants to be managing. So two luke warm options that he really didn't want to take. The Chelsea job is coming up. He wets his pants every night over that.
But Chelsea don't want him, they opt for that *** ****** ** ******* **** Rafa Benitez and he's forced into a decision. QPR say, "Hurry up and come here, or we just give Di Matteo a chance to prove Roman wrong." So Redknapp pretends to cancel his flight to Kiev and agrees to take over at QPR.

Not sure what you mean? Don't think we done much wrong today, hit the bar, half a yard (at best) offside for a goal and I thought we were the better side (not by much) today.

Roddy, I know you commented on the West Ham-Stoke game, saying (quite rightly) how poor a match it was, but today's Liverpool-Swansea game was no more entertaining, simply because both sides were so toothless.
It goes some way to prove that passing the ball about in little triangles is just as dull as hoofing the ball about, if the sides doing it are lacking in quality in attack.
I respect both teams wanting to stick to a 'passing' philosophy, but today was proof that not everybody is going to look like Barcalona doing it.

Indeed, I don't think Barcalona exist.
It's a matter of preference, but I'd sooner watch two sides trying to outplay each other, than play like Everton and pump the ball in the box from every set piece relentlessly. Today I felt like both sides actually defended really well, we probably should have scored a couple of goals but the defence seemed to win. Liverpool are obviously toothless, our lack of firepower has lead to us being reliant on two teenagers and Suarez to provide the firepower, but I'd sooner watch today's game against Swansea for 24 hours straight than watch Stoke or West Ham play.

that's the basic problem with LFC - they really believe they are still a major force in european football, well those days are long gone at least for the moment and have been for many years
fortress Anfield is no more just like it was fortress Molyneux in the early 60s or fortress Elland Road in the 60s/70s - the mighty have fallen but will hopefully get back to where they belong
teams receiving LFC for their home games were in awe of such a dominant football force coming to town whereas nowadays and for a while the thought of LFC visiting now means a real chance of picking up 3 points rather than maybe scraping a home draw against the mighty Reds
I actually enjoyed the game against The Swans, very even to the neutral I think and certainly more entertaining than the Cheslsea - Citeh cr@p or the Villa - Gooners trash served in the other televised games
you talk about 'that season' - that's the problem you lot are living on past glories and not spending enough time worrying about NOW - no team has the divine rright to glory, it has to be earned and this current LFC crop is ordinary if you take out Suarez, Gerrard & Reina - you lot deserve better

Doesn't that contradict your whole post?
I think LFC are on the right track. It's a long one, but we'll move forward under Rodgers. Toothless is the best way to describe us, we're brilliant at controlling the game but once we get to the attacking third we're either wasteful or clueless. Think it will come in time. LFC fans know where we are, we may have a chance of a cup run but we're not going to set the world alight in the league until we get some strength in depth going forward.

You've clearly not watched much of Everton's matches this season. We've passed almost all the sides we've played to death, including passing Swansea off the park. Some of the moves down Everton's left in particular over the last 12 months have been very impressive. Martin Jol compared us to Barcelona after the game against Fulham.
Everton are very impressive this season, in everything bar the killer instinct to kill games off. We've had more shots than any team in Europe (Including Barcelona) and create more clear chances than any team in the Premier League. Most of Everton's games this season have been very entertaining. We've got Baines and Pienaar bombing down the left and Coleman and Mirallas down the right, far more entertaining than watching Liverpool trying to force the ball through to Suarez or giving it to Sterling and praying he can do something.
